Need help identifying this
Dagworth replied to Tomslink's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
With the capacitor* on the track connection it has to be DC so I would expect just about any 12volt DC controller will work for it. It's definitely not Hornby though. Does it have a make under either of the locos? *The square grey component Andi -
Platform 2 at Ipswich is more that 15 ft long in OO, add platforms 3&4 at about 12 ft and platform 1 at 7 ft and I think I'll live with the lack of little tiny squares :) Oh and the parcel bay too... Andi

The first two strips added to the platform edge. There is a join between the strips next to the coach door. Line scribing will be a big job but that comes later. Andi
-
I've cut them in strips, I started with a sheet of 60thou white plasticard, scored lines on the shiny side 10mm apart, lengthways, then scored lines on the matt side 16mm apart, crossways. After it was all scored I used a fine wet and dry paper to remove any ridges from the scoring and also to scuff the surface a little. Snapping the sheet along the 10mm score lines gave me 21ft of platform edging, about a third of what I need! Being in strips it should be fairly easy to get the edges even. Once it is laid I will scribe the edge lines. Andi

That's exactly the way I've decided to make them. I don't need the tactiles for 1985. Andi

Welcome back! Have you seen my insane Ipswich model? Andi -
I'm surprised that no-one makes these ready to lay in model form if they are a standard part across the network. Unless someone does and I have missed it? Andi
-
That is absolutely perfect! Thank you so much! Andi

Maybe we need a couple of brave exhibition managers to give exhibitors the choice of either the exhibition sorting out accommodation or offering the £35 PP/PN DIY option and compare the uptake numbers for each? Andi

Does anyone know the size of the platform edge slabs of the type installed at Ipswich? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ipswich_Station_May_2011.jpg#/media/File:Ipswich_Station_May_2011.jpg Andi

I had that happen to me on a Networker, right across Lewisham junction. Eventually reset the AWS ok but I'd dropped into a third rail gap with an 8 car unit. The only option was to have the 8 car behind me attach to my tail and push me through. I had control of all 16 cars but we were going to Charing Cross that can only hold 12 cars so had to split the train in the platform at London Bridge. Of course this kind of thing only ever happens in the rush hour, shut the whole job up for a while :) Andi -

Getting all the different utility services to talk to each other so they only need to dig the road up once would help too. Andi

I've got an Antex 80w beast that I use for big stuff, everything else I use an Antex XS25. Antex irons have never given me any problems so they are what I've stuck with for 40 odd years. Andi

Isn't there a circumfence to prevent things falling off the edge? Andi

2mm diameter clear plastic rod is what I've used in the past. It should be available from various model suppliers Andi -

I have a pair of Stanley "Professional" side cutters* that get used on the DCC bus wires, most of which is recycled 1.5mm solid single that came out of a school lighting rig. For the droppers and other signal wires I use 7/0.2 and my normal go-to for stripping that (if my thumbnail won't do it!) is the Xurons that are always close to hand anyway. Decoder wire again is either thumbnail or Xurons. *Also good for cutting piano wire... Andi
