  1. Have I missed something here? All I see is a typical union rant (that appears to be understandable in cause but not in content "brother"). Also a curious position of the CPS - which has been said is only contended by one sided argument. I want to know who the litigant is - clearly not the company or the union. For a prosecution to go ahead there surely needs to be an aggrieved party. If a crime has been committed it is necessary for due process and the case to be heard, if this is a civil action seeking damages then, for what, why and from whom? It does seem very odd - though the call for strike action or the collapse of order on the railways does seem a bit exaggerated and somewhat typical of a union's stance. I'd like to know more facts, and certainly the other side of the case.
  2. With our democracy the political will, will never exist as it is all change again in 5 4 years. As the flavour of the month changes so does any semblance of really long term strategy (and so will the statistics and new "science" based facts fiction to back such changes. The one thing no government has invented is a crystal ball all they have at their disposal is hindsight - which tends to be what drives policy - and also drives the voting that places them in that position. As for money that is something that is available in some pot at the end of the rainbow. Magicians don't get elected (or perhaps they do, then we complain about the illusionists because we see through their tricks). Who once said "it is a good time to release bad news" or "to let the feral members announce their off the wall policies/ideas" ... when the general public/press is not paying attention and distracted by other events. Come 2030 we will still be debating the proposal and where to site the new coal burning power station.
  3. Did I miss something? Who threw the bucket of green paint over the conservatives? The world is going mad, just wait till the anarchists take over, they will find a new way of controlling energy use. (beyond the obvious one of making it unaffordable)
  4. Also available in 4mm Another observer here ... though you will need a couple of days to read and digest the instructions ... it is an Agenoria kit
  5. This one must feel like sleep walking after the 9F. Anything with more than 3 pairs of wheels always gives me the collie wobbles.

    EBay madness

ebay never ceases to amaze me. An item I have been watching for a fair while is on its 3rd at least (maybe more) listing. The starting price is actually very near its "as new" price but has some minor unwanted extras, the postage is free (always gets my attention). It has now been posted YET again after no bidders but with the added shouty of "LAST CHANCE" so presumably the seller is desperate. Why not lower the starting price to something more reasonable to get the auction blood flowing. I would probably bid and would expect it to sell at about (maybe £10-30 less than the current ask. But when I can still buy new (with all the sales guarantees) direct from the manufacturer I'm not even tempted. As it stands I'm watching it again and fully expect the item to still go unsold. If you ask too much to start an auction then you are not going to help by saying "LAST CHANCE" if you don't want to sell below some "justified to yourself price" then put a reserve on it and start low to generate interest.
  7. Or the vibrator out of an old mobile phone (has be used before on RMWeb to "assist" locos into moving over sticky spots.
  8. Oh, that does look rather good. and in 4mm too!
  9. But how do you determine which are actually alternate or indeed spare? One of the best features of DJH instructions were their exploded diagrams, and there is no excuse for not giving a parts list with any kit unless they are indicating that they don't know what each part represents. Supplying good photos though is a big plus. We don't all have the extensive library of every loco ever produced as a kit that some might have to hand. I have to add that 9F looks stunning and worth every bit of the effort put into it.
  10. I would just like to enjoy my possessions for as long as possible - after that I will be beyond caring. Until then they are not for sale but are for my enjoyment. If someone sells them after I'm gone then it is their problem not mine and they may have a different take on who is right or wrong. Though I guess anyone prepared to pay anything is going to place some value on them. I do understand the desire of many to pass on something of themselves to their nearest and dearest but I just cannot rationalise that with my beliefs. If I did want to do something so specific (eg my wife wants to pass on her grandmother's wedding ring as a "family heirloom" then not only is it in the will but it will probably be gifted long before death. Neither daughter has expressed a desire for it as an "heirloom" and would only sell it. So it is destined for a niece, but who knows what will happen then.) Certainly if we wish to control a small part of destiny we do need to make our intentions clear and plan accordingly. We never know how otherwise destiny will play its cards and that No 7 bus could be waiting to pounce from just round the next corner. enough of this morbidity and back to scanning ebay for some bargain unwanted tat to accumulate.
  11. Sorry Kevin, I just do not understand this "right" future owner. I also don't get why, or even how, anyone should care once they are dead. If your prize possession is sold to someone, as opposed to being buried in land fill, then surely the purchaser values that possession no matter who they are? If you wish to be selective in who takes possession of that item then you need to take appropriate steps to ensure that you give, sell, or specifically bequeath that item before you die? Even if you bequeath it in a will do not assume that it will end there as wills get contested and the new owner might not remain Mr/Mrs Right. Over the years I have been bequeathed many a prize possession that have gone straight on ebay or to the tip. Illustrating very well that one person's prize possession is another person's tat. Although I'll admit I'm not Mr Right and none of these items were model railway related.
  12. Does it really matter what the beneficiaries get? If they are daft enough to sell it undervalue then they get what they get and will still probably be better off. To those who make a killing or pick up a bargain they will also be happy. I just do not see what the fuss is about, once dead we are all well beyond caring. If you want to be a control freak you need to do it before you die. If it just ends up in the tip then it will just go to increase the value/rarity of others. Enjoy your models while you still have life in you to do so, and just be thankful.
  13. except for its presenter. Interesting to see he hasn't changed. Just as rude and derogatory to everyone around him as he was when I had the misfortune to meet him at Capital Radio. They could have found anyone better. I wasn't convinced that the problem was so much about the track as the springing/dampening of the carriages. He did well though to keep the contents of his stomach in place. (or perhaps off camera he didn't)
  14. Don't be such a tease How neat how useful might it be for the rest of us?
  15. Can we stick to one topic on the subject please? http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/97228-craftsman-detailing-kits/page-4&do=findComment&comment=2046035 Some of us are watching/subscribing to that one for good news ... that glimmer of hope posted recently.
  16. People are judged by their material possessions and not their knowledge or what they actually provide to benefit society. A logical outcome of chavism? No it has always been that way, and I do not see anything peculiar to the British in that respect. People once were judged by the number of servants they employed, or before that the number of slaves. Perhaps we in the modelling world are just as bad? Judging by the size of layout, number of stock items (locos in particular) or even mines is a finer/bigger gauge? I would like to believe I value possessions as of limited worth compared to time spent enjoying the companionship of others, or experiencing life, or using the possessions. I leave the valuation of possessions (used objects in my life) to my executor. By which time I presume they will be completely worthless. Meanwhile I'll hoard.
  17. Is that a small candle I see flickering in the breeze at the end of the tunnel ... or a red petticoat?
  18. A speedy recovery is wished - I have an order pending but it will wait and see if anything happens. Thailand is connected to the internet after all.
  19. Still should be possible to do this as the order items are added, concurrently updating the P&P. Very useful when there is a weight chnage as you can decide to defer on item until the next order. This is also useful when there is a price limit that triggers "free P&P" ... just add one more small item to get the whole lot cheaper (ala Amazon). These kits look rather good, I'm trying to dream up some excuse
  20. Feeble excuse! I'm sure he would be happy to hold one back with your name and credit card receipt on it ... Just for you
  21. Just a note: I'm not sure many on here 'follow' the galleries section (I'm not even sure it can be 'followed' as such.) As I indicated this was the first time I have come across you - and it has nothing to do with the name (which as far as I am concerned is irrelevant). I only use RMWeb and only browse the forums (most days). I am surprised that your pdf file is too large. If it is simply hosted why not just provide a link. (if it is hosted correctly the file should download from the link. A free catalogue does help to spread the word.
  22. ... and just for completeness this is what the components look like in their 'flat pack' state sitting patiently in the long queue. Nice tidy etches in n-s for strength. fr 009 it is fairly easy a build though a dab hand with the iron is required, it could probably be assembled with superglue as long as you don't stick the small parts to your fingers by accident. For 009 the Portram is a pretty close match for wheelbase. The issue as always with kits is hiding enough weight for traction. There was a whitemetal kit for 7mm but it was a bit chunky.
  23. The clearance isn't the problem, nor is the pulling power - it is the gauge and wheelbase. I've placed a 9mm gauge Portram motor/chassis under a 4mm model. ie 009 (using the same unit as used for the Lister But it was 009 not OO - sure it was slow and didn't pull anything other than itself. But the point is that there are motor designs available - with commercial scale ways could be found. That lump under the trolley looks like it houses something - two screws for access! I'm sure I have seen one motorised in OO where the motor was hidden under a toolbox. I've certainly seen a 7mm one working on a layout, and as they say it is only a matter of scale.
