  1. Hi Jim, great photos of around Cheadle Heath. The photo of what you thought might have been Heaton Mersey shed was in fact the locally known Gorsey Bank housing estate finally demolished in the late 80s/early 90s and the site now being redeveloped as Aurora business park. The sheds were over on the other side of the River Mersey now covered by light industrial units and the M60 (formerly M63). Not much left of Cheadle Heath at all now. The old Cheadle (North) station has nicely been done out as the Cheshire Lines pub and has a great lineside view. Cheers Paul
  2. Hi, has anyone any unwanted glazing pieces for the Bachmann 37. Maybe you have upgraded the glazing using the Extreme Etching glazing but not chucked the old Bachmann pieces away? Any of the glazing welcome to replace missing pieces especially drivers and secondman side windows and bodyside engine room windows. Please reply by PM many thanks Paul
  3. Some through freight traffic often heading from Crewe direct to the Buxton/Peak District is booked to run via the Middlewich line. There were some diverted Virgin London to North Wales Voyager units during the summer for 2 weekends at least but nothing since. And the very occasional Network Rail test trains when they decide to run. This is the real time trains list for Middlewich for today http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/MDLW/2017/11/20/0000-2359?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt Cheers Paul
  4. Country Scenes and Trees according to the exhibition guide can be contacted via number 07923 834820 or email martin.s.wood@gmail.com Cheers Paul
  5. Ah no worries it must have been sometime since July as that is when I last went up to Peak Forest for the day. Oh look some Buxton plaques, PNP plates just fallen out of my nameplate box lol! Cheers Paul
  6. Resolved: obtained Hornby 153 equivalent for the ploughs and couplers. Thanks to bigjim for info. Hi, just a request to ask if any members have one of these packs going spare as somewhere along the way mine from my OO First North Western 150145 has gone missing. I have already tried Bachmann spares dept but they have advised they do not have any in stock. Please PM me with a price inc p+p if you can help. Many thanks Paul
  7. Hi Andy thanks for the photo of the track renewal of the Up line - what date was that? I already have 37688 ;-) plus 687 in Construction so might have 683 in plain 3tg or maybe even 684 "PNP".... decisions decisions! Cheers Paul
  8. I have the pleasure of 142s on the Manchester to Chester line several times a week travelling from Stockport to Northwich. Highlights include the Skelton Junc. to Deansgate Junc. curves plus the lovely sideways swing and double dips just to the south of Hale those always catch out unwary souls who are not holding onto anything! Last nights commute was intended to start with the 4.57 that starts from Stockport but cancelled sigh.... no traincrew for the unit from Newton Heath. So that means two lots of passengers waiting for the 5.19 from Piccadilly, which is already a busy train. Net result stand all the way to Northwich. At least I had the warm pipe to hold onto lol. Not the best units but better than no unit at all... unless like last night no unit came for 4.57. I have said it before it is a pity that copy units of class 150/2s were not built fully backwards compatible with the older units. Paul
  9. Russian Doll Peak Forest station buildings all we need now is an O gauge and T gauge version. I went up to Peak on Monday for the afternoon and the Up line outside outside the building from the point leading to Up Sdgs, under the bridge and another couple of yards or so has been renewed and all fresh looking concrete sleepered track and ballast now. Yes hoping to recommence some work on Speedlow soon. Picked up a 37671 to make into a Buxton 37/5 number to be decided once I have consulted my livery date notes but will be a Construction branded tractor! Cheers Paul
  10. Good to meet you at Hazel Grove exhibition on Saturday Andy. Re the station building did you get to see the N gauge version that Pete Latham had with him on the Lymebrook layout near to the entrance/exit passageway to the hall? Cheers Paul
  11. Thank-you sawyermodels for the kind comments I will ensure they are passed onto the committee on Friday at the post mortem meeting. Regards Paul Harrison on behalf of HG&DMRS
  12. Thanks paulbb I will feed your comments back to the committee on Friday night when we have the post mortem. The catering is provided by the school canteen staff and apart from the exhibitors meals which the club contributes towards I believe they decide what to offer to the public but we do ask if it is possible to have a hot and cold food option along with snacks, cakes and h/c drinks. But I will ask all the same. Many thanks Paul on behalf of HG&DMRS
  13. Interesting and timely thread as my uncle has just purchased 11 of these newer style Hornby wagons from our exhibition club stand today... to bolster his existing fleet of these models for his own intended Cornish layout. Inspired to look for a top view I have only found this one from flickr in EWS days https://flic.kr/p/8R5Mxo I will follow with interest cheers Paul
  14. A Harry Needle 09 has just started working at Manchester Collyhurst Street on behalf of GBRf shunting their new bogie box wagons for a flow of what I am told is contaminated land spoil being railed over to Scunthorpe presumably into one of the former ironstone quarry pits there? Cheers Paul
  15. Bump for our exhibition this weekend... setting up from noon onwards. I've some work to finish off on our club layout Smethurst Junction so that will keep me busy. Hope to see some members there this weekend. Thanks Paul
  16. Ho Nik no problemo it will be a good project to watch. Cheers Paul
  17. Interesting project Nik a place I know so well. I have often dreamt of a Peak Forest type of layout... It certainly seemed a lot busier back in the 1990s on the few occasions I visited and then more often from around 1996 onwards to present. As with any freight location it has it's share of busy and quiet moments sometimes several hours between moves as my notes attest. Most of the air-braked hopper trains loaded upto 25 wagons with a class 60 depending on the flow so that is a large rake in OO. How will the summit of the line (at the right hand end of your diagram where in real life the lines enter the limestone cutting towards Dove Holes tunnel) fit in? Fiddle yard on the same falling gradient back towards the Great Rocks end?? Plus given that all loaded services depart north (except the Tunstead to Hindlow traffic of course and any diversions via Buxton and LNW lines) it might be best to have two separate fiddle yards to hold the rakes of wagons. Cheers Paul
  18. Freightliner have recently been using their own HIA hoppers on the long-standing flow of limestone from the Tarmac quarry at Tunstead to Tata Chemicals at Lostock, Northwich in place of the DBC diagrams. Paul

  21. Given the weathering on the real wagons there was an lot of variation in the shade and intensity of the brown. I am fortunate to have photos of the wagons from their days when they were used internally at Winnington Works and most times I visited it was usually a dull overcast day usually wet too so the wagons tended to look quite dark. But other photos of the wagons waiting to be scrapped at Attercliffe on a dry day look ligher. For me Style 2 looks a good starting point. Style 1 less so. Not sure what Style 3 is based on? A photo? I honestly cannot recall seeing a hopper in that condition. The weathering to the inside of the hopper itself needs to be less angular and more rounded if possible but again there was some variation in how the limestone dust and rust weathered. Paul
