Z gauge, T gauge!
Seriously I think the station building would look wrong in a NG setting - O gauge would be better, but I can understand why costs would prohibit this.....
-
Give Brian a ring
-
I've added the Kirby Uncouplers last night, so just a quick waft of Weather Black and it will be ready for Warwick
And no, I'm not doing any more
-
Thanks marc, especially from the builder of MY HM layout of the year
Only this one, as in 1958 most PO wagons were dust. This sad specimen remained in use at Summat Colliery to ferry loco coal from the screens to the loading stage - gives us operators something different to do at shows.......
-
Thanks, I've used this technique in the past to re-create "Nellie" and "Polly" nameplates for old Hornby -0-4-0s. Never been this small before though.
Still, you can't fault the accuracy of the end result, although it might be a little big
-
mmmm, so which bit have I got?
-
Thanks Guys, I'll keep you in mind Brian, but I do have to take a trip over to Derby to see Dr Dirt (Roomey) ......
I have 4 tinlets of Humbrol "Deltic Blue" that I picked up with the Craftsman kit from a fellow webber. I should have loads spare
I've got the MR article, ramrig kindly supplied it with the Dapol kit and Fox transfers/plates
-
I'll make a start soon honest
-
Ta, I thought that the extra work was worth it as the donor deltic had the later cast type bogie frames and would have looked far worse than the small amount of mismatch between axlebox and bogie wheel ....
The procedure I developed for the second bogie worked better as well - assemble the bogie as is, just remove the circular molding pips from the backs of the bogie frames. Use the bogie pivot but DONT cement it in place. This holds the frame nice and square while the cement sets. I then fitted the Bachmann frame bottom, cutting a little off the triangular bracing until the frame sat nicely then cemented in place. Once it was all hard I then cut the bogie pivot out with a scalpel.

hmm, according to my records I have spent on average ??48.20 over the last four years on what I class as "sundries", it is increasing year on year though, ??77.61 last year ....

Apologies to all who have not seen my signature for the last few months (or is that years!)
The loco to be built is a BR Standard 2-8-2 class 8 mixed traffic loco which was the forerunner of the 9F. The design is taken from E. S. Cox's "BR Standard Steam Locomotives" and features a Britannia Boiler etc.
-
don't know where you're looking Simon, the only Brit Hattons are doing is over a ton!
Can't believe I sold that tender drive Dornoch Firth in Setptember
-
an L1 did visit Annesley shed and is reported as doing a few colliery trips....
One might find it's way onto Summat Colliery
Why don't we have a Duke of Gloucester comp this year, that'll get Hornby thinking
-
Cheers Chris, I want one of my own now although I might be persuaded to do one of your Duke of Gloucester's if Hornby don't announce one soon!
-
test

Nice try Geoff, but the guitar string is for the insulated pipework runs from preheater to main boiler, I've got plently of vac pipes although this example won't carry any as the would foul the standard Hornby coupling that the eventual owner still wants to retain
Calling in at a local purveyor of musical instruments on my way home to BUY a string, should be an interesting conversation ......
Bet your pipework will look good once you've lobbed 20 odd quids worth of Comet detailing pack at it

baptism in the canal?
Looking good by the way, how's the static grass applicator coming along?
-
Of course not. This is for a reputable magazine
not to mention a Church model railway exhibition
-
shame it's going to be all dirty, rusty and unloved soon ......
-
Nice work Tim, when are you tackling the signal wires?, looking forward to pics.....
-
Cheers Torkard, I saw Sherwood's flyer for those wagons at the Woodborough Show, might be interested in the H J Redgate one, but not the other - pricey too, I could do my own now with the HMRS transfers I ordered today
-
No problems with the cold Mark, I was warned and had my fleece with me, funnily the chap from brilliant Baseboards didn't seem to have been so warned and grumbled most of the day
-
Scooby is all packed up ready for this afternoon's sprint "down south", don't think I've left anything
-
Sounds like you were way ahead of me - just didn't want you to turn up at a show and find the wagging finger of a PAT tester .....

Ta, it's a bit more than the Dapol kit though, let's not forget the A1 models grilles and airhorns, Fox plates and whiskers/stripes gleaned from a craftsman conversion kit
I'll do a costing when I'm done to see what the relative costs are to an NRM one. But as you say, I've built this one
