Good to see you back. I was wondering how this was coming along. You're getting the atmosphere of the place I think. I particularly like the chimney stack on the main part of the building.
Interesting to see the Wills point rodding in action. I'm considering getting a couple of packs to address the invisible point rodding on my layout.

Now why didn't I think of writing the identity of the wires on the underside of the layout? Off to buy a marker pen.

I made one of these a few years ago using an Impetus/Dapol kit on a Bachmann O3 chassis. There's some pics in my layout thread and gallery. I've been thinking about substituting the Bachmann O4 mech like yours. Any thoughts on wether this would be a straightforward exercise?

I am.pleased to report the shunting horse has been purchased for Diddington, the field is ready by the engine shed and I have been studying the video with aa view to building the stable.

Be careful if you use ash from briquettes, some of them produce a rather unpleasant smell when wet. (I found this out the hard way)

Good to see you back. I think the positive that can be drawn from any change of layout venue is that it makes us stop and think about how it is best fitted in the available space.
With regsrd to the platforms for Buckden I;d suggest painting then platform surfaces a brown/grey colour, then paiting on pva and sprinkling with fine ash.
Once dry, any surplus can be cleaned off and the final colour adjusted if necessary by gentlyoverspraying with a suitable colour.

Thanks Mike,
No tensioners = no excuses!

I think there should be tensioners at the end of the load chains on the Lowmac but haven't found any small enough. Any thoughts?

What plan are you using? Sounds like the S Wales colliery one published in MORIL a few years ago.
-
Brilliant idea. I'm off to scan a sheet of embossed card.

8 Years before unpacking is not a long time at all. A couple of years ago I unpacked some china that had been packed by my wife's late stepfather when he was moving house. The items had been wrapped in a newspaper reporting the Hungarian uprising.
Oh and we had the storm - stuck in a traffic jam while Plymouth was gridlocked this evening.

Great stuff Mikkel. Where did you source the figures?
-
Another fascinating project I'm losing count of how many there are. How about something from the Reseau Breton next?
-
I'm sure you'll produce something well worth seeing. I look forward to your blog instalments with eager anticipation. I've just had a look at the tracks to the trenches site - this looks like inspiration for an outing!

I thin Tamiya acrylic with car windscreen washer fluid. It's much cheaper than Tamiya thinners, easier tog get hold of, and the one I use seems to have a mild detergent in which helps clean the airbrush afterwards.

Very nice. Looking at pictures of B17's in service they would appear to have been kept quite clean and yours captures the workaday effect very well. Tcut is an ideal medium for imparting an initial shine to the paintwork.
I'd go for "Welbeck Abbey"

Looking at the photo of the chalk marks I realize that I've inadvertantly shown some of the planning process. The line at the front left is the original front edge of the layout. When I drew it out I decided it was too wide and gave an unbalanced look to the board, so I narrowed it before cutting the cross bearers.

I was thinking they looked awfully similar'

Ooo....
On a practical note, I've got the Brown Prideaux Ratcliffe book.
-
I particularly like the rusty effect on that firebox. Was that artists acrylic too?
-
Nice. Be these local to Guzz?
-
This is looking rather Buckden like, especially the shot of the 2mt by the signal box.
I'd do the yard surface by painting the surface with an earth colour, covering it with dilute pva glue, and sprinkling it with fine ash through a tea strainer. When its dry, just dust up the surplus. The surface can be left as it is , or toned down by lightly spraying on an earth colour. I've recently tried a quick pass from a Modelmates spray dye (mud brown) which worked quite well.
Looking forward to seeing the station building. Is the original still there for you to have a look at?

I'm trying to work out - is the left hand figure in the last photograph photoshopped in, or is it just very well painted?
-
Nice. This is modelling at its best - making what you want from something else.
I wasn't familiar with the class, but it does look paticularly Manning-Wardle like round the tanks and chimney, and its interesting to see what can be done using the Pug as a basis.

A new theme! I reckon it's only a matter of time before you do a Settle & Carlisle model. If its going to be this good, I can't wait.
