  1. Hi Kev, Nice to see a video of the layout in action, especially as I've never attended a Lydd Rail despite being a DEMU member since 2002! I hope you don't mind but i shared this thread on my modelling page on Facebook. I don't know if either you or the layout are on there but it can be seen here https://www.facebook.com/contempmodelling Cheers Wayne
  2. Hi Kevin, Cracking video and good editing with the fade out shots. I like the way you've modelled the station at the bridge end, does this mean the layout will be extended at some point or is it designed so that it could operate as a terminus if required, say for a smaller show that might not have space for the full layout? Nice to see a completed Cambrian Sturgeon running as well. What did you do with the round door bangers on this, did you make your own or use the plastic ones in the kit? I have two to build and was thinking of using brass as it's thinner but I've never been keen on metal to plastic joints - things always fall off! Cheers Wayne
  3. I was hoping to finish the transfers on the blackadder this evening but I'm waiting for some transfer paper to arrive. That being the case I set about assembling a few more sets of etched axle guards, I tend to do these in small batches in between other stuff. They're brilliant for long wheelbase wagons and really improve the running quality. These are for SPAs, a Bachmann OBA the POA blackadder and a VDA van. Once these are fitted and a little weathering is done I can tick these wagons off the unfinished list. Cheers Wayne
  4. Hi Kev, I've just found this having asked over on DEMU what the OLE layout was that was at Lydd over the weekend. Cracking work sir! Cheers Wayne
  5. Hi WIll, Thanks for the kind words. Looking at the links you posted yes the large horn grilles always do look quite black due to the dirt build up in that case I'll probably leave my model of 56073 well alone at least for now. The only time I saw 56101 was when it was in Transrail livery after being transferred to Canton and I always thought it was an odd name. Cheers Wayne
  6. Hi Will, The 60's and 50149 are looking good so far. Regarding the 56 horn grilles, when I did my model of 56073 I kept the Hornby grille and fitted the Shawplan inside. I might have had to trim it a little but it's a good fit, however looking at it again I may have over weathered the grille slightly but I was aiming to get the sense of depth. Cheers Wayne
  7. Looking good. Could we have some colour pictures as well, pretty please?
  8. I nearly picked up this issue for a read about Empire Mills, it seemed a lovely layout and in EM gauge as well a scale I've moved on to. I have to say however that the ready to run clay wagons with there fabric hoods did spoil it some what which is unfortunate. Cheers
  9. A bit later than planned but here's a few quickly grabbed shots from the show. I didn't manage to get all the layouts but then I did have one of my own to look after. First up is Seven Ash which has shades of Old Oak Common about it, a nice layout. Next is Crossley Scrap, a small layout take on the rail served scrap yard at Shipley in Yorkshire. Some excellent detail on this one! This is Talbot Lane, I didn't get much time to look at this one unfortunately. Here's a quick shot of our own Paul Rolley demonstrating the building of O gauge wagons. Peter Lord took much enjoyment in telling him that SSA scrap wagons are being announced in rtr form. While that may be true I'm sure that particular type of SSA won't be done as they're a production batch based on an original prototype. And finally my layout Trevanna Dries which shows a quick shot of a passing china clay train in the hands of one of St Blazey's newly converted 37/5 locos and some 30+ year old 'clay hood' wagons. Cheers Wayne
  10. Well Trevanna is now away after attending the Barry and Penarth clubs 40th anniversary exhibition. The layout ran well and the only stock that decided it wasn't going to play ball was the 121 bubble car and a single clay hood that was red carded due to a dragging wheel set. The issue with the Lima 121 is really bugging me. After placing it on the track my Power Cab came up with ''can not read CV'' and despite checking the wiring for any shorts/faults etc and changing the decoder twice it still had the same problem. I think the answer might be a complete stripping of the wiring clean everything up and then re-wire yet another new decoder back in. Apart from those issues it was a great weekend. Nice to catch up with some familiar faces and of course meet some new ones, I was also approached with two invites to shows but we'll have to see about those. Anyway here's a couple of photos that were quickly grabbed during a quieter period. Thanks to my assistant driver Andrew who helped over the weekend, not sure I could have done two days by myself. Cheers Wayne
  11. Couldn't agree more I think it's a great venue for a show. As Brian said we were all made to feel welcome despite not being involved with the club. The dinner ladies did a fantastic job in feeding us so hats off to them! I was pleased to be able to set up Trevanna Dries in a revised location because the original space was shall we say... A bit tight! A big thanks for the invite!! Cheers Wayne
  12. Well the layout has been put away and I've just been fed and watered. It was a good show with lots of great modelling to be seen but it was noticeable that the turnout of people was a little quiet in the afternoons, however I guess we could probably blame the nice weather for part of it with people preferring to have a little weekend break. Having said that it was a great venue and I would happily exhibit there again. Thanks must go to the Barry and Penarth club for the invite, my assistant operator, my partner for baking some excellent brownies to keep us going and an extra big thanks to the dinner ladies of the school who came in to feed us on what would be they're usual weekend off. Nice to catch up with usual faces and also to meet some new ones. I'll post up some photos later. Cheers Wayne
  13. Quick picture of the Blackadder with main livery elements in place. Cheers Wayne
  14. Thanks for the link Jules, some nice stuff on your bench. A bit more progress on the 'Blackadder' POA scrap wagon. Not a great lot to see but the yellow band has been added around the top in readiness for the wasp stripes along with a base coat of dark rust for the interior. The underframe components have been added along with the protection beams made from styrene channel, I was going to add some air pipework underneath but so far I haven't found a clear enough picture to work from so that will wait for now. At some point I need to assemble the ladder which is formed from two sides with individual rungs soldered in place so that should be fun. Cheers Wayne
  15. Hi Paul, Was worth a shot. Who wad the owner of 47575 further back in the thread? Cheers Wayne
  16. Hi Paul, Some excellent photos despite the strong sun. Would it be possible to see some photos of sectorisation stock on Blowers Green? Cheers Wayne
  17. Hi Jules, I went about it a slightly different way and removed the whole vertical rib then replaced with plastic strip. That seemed the best way to me rather than trying to blend in a small piece. To be honest I've not heard about the Parkside Rudd being too narrow. If it is then all I can say is the Hornby one has over-thick sides so it's swings and roundabouts. I'd still say the Parkside kit makes a better model. Cheers Wayne
  18. Hi Jules, Some nice work here, nice to see someone else paying attention to some wagons. An interesting variation to your rudds would be to model the Marcroft built version which had slightly different ends. I've done one of these and it's a simple conversion. Cheers Wayne
  19. Hi Jules, The POA is from Wizard Models. It's the first of there kits I've built and it captures the rugged look of these beasts really well. I totally agree regarding the open wagons. They do need a bit of work but it results in a much better model in my opinion. I'll take a look at your link. Cheers Wayne
  20. No update on here for a little while but I have been modelling trying to get through all the unfinished wagons before I start anymore. The next item on the list was a POA 'blackadder' scrap carrying wagon. So far it has had bodyside alterations and detail applied and now is in it's basic black livery. Next job is to start adding some bits to the underframe. Cheers Wayne
  21. Indeed, I only realised after being told last year that there are tolerances in BR documentation for buffer height. Apart from whether the wagon is loaded or empty there's also spring wear to take into account. Cheers Wayne
  22. Trevanna Dries is due to attend the Penarth exhibition on the 14/15th of July, more details of layouts, traders etc can be found in the post below. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/50597-welsh-exhibitions/?p=3203170 The exhibition will mark the 40th anniversary of the Barry and Penarth MRC. Cheers Wayne
  23. Many thanks. I have received and replied to his email. Kind regards, Wayne
  24. Looks like a good line up. Awaiting conformation that my layout Trevanna will be attending. Cheers Wayne
