TIGER FORCE!
Yes indeed

Lanc coming on very well. Airfix certainly produce some very detailed mouldings now, compared to the past. Up with Tamya etc imho. The Shack looks great with the props on, just going to have to get one! I was going to hold out and see if a MR3 came along, with the tricycle undercarriage but having seen your pics of it on the ground the MR2 looks like the one to go for.
The problem for me is having enough space to display a large model, my largest one is a DC3 that's been in a drawer for some years.. but I think I can hang one up in a corner of the loft over the layout.
Please keep posting about your aircraft, they are very encouraging with your great paintwork, and very informative about the kits themselves.
I hope Airfix produce the Shackleton MR3 at some point (I suspect they will, as the Shackleton has proved an extremely popular aircraft)
Keep your eyes peeled as another blog entry is coming...

Excellent paint job! Is it matt or is there a slight sheen to it? Looks very impressive, really like the way the wings fit.
Looking forward to seeing the props fitted!
Satin finish more than matt, saves varnishing for transfers

Oh oh oh, very nice!
Thanks, it's hard to believe I started this kit in late August...
Beautiful model, very well put together. Even a flat where the tyre rests on the ground!
Airfix like to do that on their new tool kits, it works better on some than on others, it just a shame that they didn't fully fit out the interior - as the rest area/galley and rear observer areas haven't been done.

You should be very pleased. Great looking model
Thanks Chris, she's keeping my 1/24th Scale Harrier GR3 company along with a few 'friends in other scales' on top of my Wardrobe

Ugly and deadly. Probably should never have been sanctioned but filled a gap in the national arsenal at a vital time. Very nice piece of work.
To true, a failed Fighter (it was designed as the replacement for the Hurricane after all), that became a lethal weapon in the ground attack role in the hands of Allied Pilots.
No wonder all those decades later, the German partners in the Euro-fighter program got a tad upset when it was decided that Typhoon name would be resurrected.

Very nice James and it's brought back memories of a spotty teenager [me] building the then new release 1/24 Hawker Harrier. This was way before the Falklands war that made it's name. I wouldn't mind another go. Gorgeous kits from Airfix. You need to do the mossie too.
I built (and still have) the 1/24 Scale Harrier (GR3 version), it's a lovely kit - built while I was working a Dunsfold. I also remember seeing a GR3 fuselage from the Falklands War - I can't remember the number, just the story..
She encounter heavy flak from the Argies, a 12 inch hole passing behind the engine (went through Frame 39 - load bearing) and made it back to ship - Hermes I think.
I had an Airfix 1/24 Scale Spitfire VB arrive today (eBay bargain) - much simpler than the Typhoon, I'm going to do the clipped wing version.
-
Always fancied building one of these! Looking forward to reading more
Thanks..
This kit is definitely not for the novice or mid-ranged modeler - it's a beast and that's coming fro someone who used to actually build war planes for a living.
-
Beautiful models. Those Harriers look like excellent kits - although I know nothing of such things.
Best wishes for your recovery.
I'm still on the mend - it's going to take at least 2 years..
-
Haha, very funny

TBG - As someone asked in the J15 thread - where's the 'smart-ass' key when you need it?
If you can get me a picture of the back end of Wickham Market without the burglar alarms - I'll use it!
Mind you - you are quite right - I really must touch them out.
You could say they're nest boxes and possibly get away with it. Fortunately I haven't spotted any satellite dishes
Great work though
-
Must have a high crime rate there, judging from what look like burglar alarms on your back-scene
-
Cut it away very carefully
-
I just hope your wife doesn't notice the pin is missing
-
Was the depth of etch too shallow, to put a packer in place to assist with the forming?
-
Thanks

The waddle on the Grange, sounds like bowed coupling rods to me. The vacuum spindle being missing could be down to lost tooling having to be remade and those pesky Chinese not reading the drawing properly!
The one photo I've found of 90312, it did gain a late crest, but had the top feed cover in place. However I not sure about it ever being allocated to Old Oak Common, all the info I have at hand show it as being allocated to Cardiff Canton 6/10/56, Southall 26/3/60, Didcot 25/3/61, Ebbw Jct. 20/5/61, Llanelly 7/10/61 & Gorton 16/6/62.

Another blooper I spotted is the box Clive of India comes in - the overhead picture quite clearly shows the earlier/narrower ventilator - the models is correct lol
-
I just checked the Apollo donor (which became Ariel) and the roof ventilator's definitely smaller than that on the Clive of India donor (Thomas Hardy) that is currently on the workbench.
It never got mentioned in any of the reviews which was odd for a clanger (from Hornby) and I wouldn't go starting a thread on it now, as they (Hornby) have quietly fixed it.
-
Yes that's the photo in question. I'm wondering if any of the other R25xx releases of the Brit have the same problem
-
Thanks - I do just wonder if Hornby got it wrong first time round.
Regards
Ray
Having found a picture of Williiam Wordsworth (on google) showing the roof vents, they are wrong.
-
The few photo's I can find showing the cab roof ventilators, show the wider type, but knowing the number of modifications the class went through, it maybe correct.

Have you lost any trains on it yet
