  1. 32-482Z: 233 'Empress of England' (TMC Exclusive) - April 2020, and very tasty too! I find the wibble more pronounced after I've had a lot of units.
  2. The altitude function has been a Godsend in accurately annotating an OS map of the A7 as it climbs the valley of Ewes Water between Langholm and the summit at Mosspaul; all part of railway research, and a feature I wasn't aware of when I bought the car. More seriously, it safely evacuated us from Teviotdale and Eskdale when the route via Whitrope became impassable and the A7 itself was under 18" of water in places, during the great tempest of 15th February 2020 (Storm Dennis).
  3. You didn't have the right one 😉 The insane petrol HPEs are great fun and very refined - basically a reskinned Golf GTi.
  4. Not sure if we've had this previously, it's been a wee while since this thread was refreshed! Anyway, Tweedbank first time round, with a 64B D26X encroaching with 4S41 circa 1968, at a guess. Suggesting the 350 is on its way to St Boswells. Lovely! https://www.railscot.co.uk/img/57/266/
  5. Great explanation/ background from Bob Gwynne on the announcement/ reveal video. The pre-production models appear good too. Good work, Ben and Heljan. EDIT: I'm watching via a Facebook link (wink!) Hint - it's an eight wheeler.
  6. When they do one of these, count me in: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:British_Rail_Class_139#/media/File:Parry_People_Mover_139_002_leaving_Stourbridge_Town_Railway_Station_-_geograph.org.uk_-_1376879.jpg
  7. I had no idea they invented that!
  8. I've always found the lack of an IKEA to be a great thing.
  9. Where should I put sir's saucer of milk? 😉
  10. I can't see any difference, now I don't think I'm looking at the right thing even!
  11. Judging by the photo above, the real thing appears to have the frame in silver, or are my eyes playing-up again? 😉
  12. As a putative Waverley route modeller, lengthy secondary mainline trains (especially express freights) traversing 'big country' are my stock-in-trade. So you could well have heard something broadly similar escape my cakehole.
  13. Why, do derailments occur with greater frequency on broad gauge? 😉 EDIT: On reflection, I now wonder if this could be a rigid chassis for some reason - prototype/ Corgi undergubbins? Or just not put on the track properly. And please note, this is in no way knocking Hornby, it's genuine interest. (Check the further of the two locos 'on shed' - Ed)
  14. Not going to open a debate about travelling about outside our local area, as youngsters (especially children) aren't as likely to do that under their own steam (groan!) to see T&RS exotica in other regions... But as a point of interest, there is a fair amount of booked loco-hauled passenger services on today's railway. Yes, Class 91s are one, add to this Class 67 and 68 on the Transport for Wales, Chiltern and Trans-Pennine networks, and the frequent charter trains using Class 37s, 47s and 57s. HSTs are technically loco-hauled too. And surely you have seen freight trains?
  15. Yet elsewhere, also at Kings Cross, apparently another Hornby-supported OO layout????? https://londonist.com/london/transport/lner-family-lounge-kings-cross-Hornby-train-set Bewildered of Hogsmeade.
  16. Where's Eddie Knorn of this parish, when you need him? 😉
  17. I was wondering how to justify bidding for one of NXWM's soon to be retired Volvo B7TL-ALX400s 😉
  18. Aye, and therein lies the key to opening and leveraging the latent market 'identified' by SK, I reckon, although this is a large group within which is the cache of viable new adopters. It will be outwith here and ST's channel, and possibly lies on the outside back cover of the Times Sunday supplements of December 4, 11 etc (will there be one on the 25th as it's Christmas Day!?)
  19. Doesn't Bachmann's Thomas starter set have a basic oval and siding of, albeit basic, moulded track-base P-way? Their E-Z Track IIRC, of which there are add-on packs. Definitely a help for children and, as you say, providing a degree of carpetproofing!
  20. I have been known to cringe at that channel*, but these days I find myself far less harsh towards it, in fact I can see its attraction to a large swathe of actual and potential modellers. And to address your point very directly, the pure fact that his layout is on a carpeted floor, probably resonates (not in a structural sense, although it possibly does that as well) with a substantial part of the audience, who are space and/ or skills-poor. IF he reviews one of the launch sets - as I believe he definitely will - this will be far more influential than this thread on Hornby's on-line order book.
  21. ...is not a phrase that one would normally associate with this type of modelling It's amazing what you learn on here; diabetic chocolate is the best glue for Les's needs.
  22. I never thought I'd find my brain shaping the following thoughts, but... I'll be extremely interested to view Sam's Trains' reportage on the TT120 announcement, and tellingly, the inevitable legion of replies from his cohort of fanatical followers. I feel that therein lies a far better barometer of whether Hornby has got this judgement right, rather than on this site/ thread. PS: To declare my position: too deeply invested in the awkward scale that is OO to contemplate a switch to TT. Perhaps a fellow Waverley route devotee in waiting will be able to avail themselves of the smaller scale in twenty years or so.
