See what you mean - have to cut in to accommodate that square mounting plate Might try that on the next one I do Phil
-
Meant to ask you Richard - what sprung buffers did you use? The fixed originals may cause problems when we come to double head... Cheers Phil
-
Nice one Paul Agree with the ride height - Was only teasing Mr EW! Some weathering of the pick ups/ bogie sides on mine would help disguise this I guess Have you got the frost grilles for yours? And would recommend some works plates from Extreme Etchings - they do the WR Cow Horn lamp irons too if you don't have them to hand. Each WR 37 seems to have a different combination of original/WR lamp irons and headboard clips - sometimes different at each end! Thanks for sharing Phil
-
Ray I don't have experience of them but I guess any of the tank locos are not going to be the easiest to fit sound to! For the diesels it will depend on make and how recently they were manufactured Have a look at from 3.30 to 8 mins for a 25, 37 and 47 from Howes The current Bachmann versions of these have speaker recesses for a bass enhanced/reflex oval speaker in the chassis block under the cooling fan - for the older ones its a case of finding a location for the standard round speaker that the chip comes with. Cheers Phil

Thanks Richard Those are waterslides from Fox Transfers - F4310/10 http://www.fox-transfers.co.uk/image_display.cgi?image=11SxBELC0Jeyo.jpg No connection other than a jolly happy customer! Is this your inspiration? http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6060/6266113190_bcddac4deb.jpg As you say easy to use the grilles as alignment guide - think mine are high at B end on D6992 but far from sure that everything is perfectly straight on the prototype Phil
-
Its the clear separation of the sound from the front and rear of the speaker that makes the difference - prevents destructive interference between the two sets of sound waves which would give reduced volume and quality. What else have you got to chip? Phil
-
I would seal both Ray - the more enclosed the sound path and the more robustly the speaker is mounted the better your sound reproduction will be. The speaker as supplied with the Loksound chip is perfectly capable of excellent sound if well mounted I suspect your plastic oval is the Bachmann speaker mount - difficult to see but looks as if the central well is intended to accommodate the speaker driver coils (the raised area on the back of the speaker) Look forwards to hearing the result! Cheers Phil
-
Do Bachmann supply a speaker enclosure with these locos? The dimensions of that might give you a clue as to what size speaker they expect you to install Kind regards Phil
-
And theres 5 of both of them......!!!! Phil
-
And they do the job rather nicely on D6992 and the rest of our fleet too! http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/80301-d6992-from-Bachmann-37254/ Phil

You too Bill - thanks for the kind comments Headcodes inside the glazing certainly does the biz Phil
-
Don't worry Mike - will be through Abbotswood too quickly for you to get the measuring tape out! Hee hee Phil

Hi Andy OK will find time to do a detailed installation post for you Cheers Phil

Excellent outdoor lighting today so got some snaps of the latest motive power D1067 - see http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/33639-Dapol-western/page-123&do=findComment&comment=1280530 and D6992 - see http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/80301-d6992-from-Bachmann-37254/ Looking forwards to getting them chipped and running Cheers Phil

First ever Wizzo cop was D1067 at Bristol Temple Meads in MFYE - must have been Easter 1968 I think, was staying with my cousins in Southmead at the time Always hankered to do this loco especially as she (He?) appeared in this livery on the back cover of Hugh Dady's excellent "Heyday of the Hydraulics". So the Dapol MFYE model was a good starting point.... Just had to remove OHLE flashes and replace those on nose in correct position, other replaced as they were Extreme Etching plates fitted - weathering washes of white, roof dirt, black and then white streaks to represent boiler overflow run off...followed by patch painting of maroon around lower front ends of loco as per photo, wash of track dirt plus weathering powders on underframe areas followed by a light squirt of matt varnish but leaking it streaky in places. Bachmann crews fitted plus headcodes from Precision Labels and wire coupling loops. Just awaiting sound chip before working 6V83 tanks from Rowley Regis to Landarcy and 3B48 vans to Worcester 2 items missing - lifting rings (AAARGH!) and drivers name card holder as this is a Crewe built loco. Can anyone advise on how to add the latter please? Cheers Phil

Thought folks might like to see the outcome of this project - there was some dramatic lighting on the decking this morning so I sallied forth with the camera The base model started out as 37254 which has the refurbed nose ends with the cowlings cut back - so first job was to source the correct nose ends. HAving acquired the base model from Muddy Blues of this parish we then did a nose end swap - thanks Craig! Had to remove ER pattern lamp irons and headboard clips and domino headcodes. Then fitted new headcodes from Precision labels with home made glazing, renumbering, OH flashes, arrows and TOPs panels from Fox labels and worksplates plus WR cow horn lamp irons from Extreme etchings - crew are Bachmann, wire coupling loops also added. Weathering washes initially with white to weather blue slightly, then black and roof grime - and track grime plus weathering powders over bogies. All subtle and done with brushes rather than sprays except for a final light coat of sprayed matt varnish - but streaky! Rather pleased with result Heres the original http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=flikr+d6992&id=09165E555A325F0F2390F25BB1A84205BEAFA78F&FORM=IQFRBA#view=detail&id=09165E555A325F0F2390F25BB1A84205BEAFA78F&selectedIndex=0 http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6046/6266116392_a3065cbb5b.jpg Many thanks to Graeme Wareham AKA Brush Veteran for the inspiration Phil

Fanfares - here we are! When Youtube finishes processing the video you will be able to view - and more importantly hear - the result at Horns sound rather like those from its big brother - is that correct? Otherwise am rather pleased with final result given installation difficulties - happy to share more info on those if there is interest Meanwhile - enjoy, its only a kitchen floor test track video at the mo but will film in anger the next time we have the layout up Cheers Phil

Would commend roundy roundy, it works well for Abbotswood - when we are being serious we operate it as end to end with in effect parallel linked fiddle yards at the back - but also allows the option of running in locos on a circular track and - only occasionally you understand - just playing trains Cheers Phil

Absolutely Geoff its in the schedule - will try and get down to 2014 show for a recce, is there a deffo date yet for 2015? Phase 2 should be well under way by then - but not sure about completed Pretty much a one man team these days when it comes to layout construction But some great mates & family to help with exhibitions and running Cheers Phil
