  1. Yes, this has to be one of the more interesting locos to put a kadee on! Sadly I don't think in the early days Bachmann understood that pockets should be at a set height. I've also had to replace all the draw bars on my Mk.1 stock, plus fettle loads of wagons, and a few GWR prairies. I've done a couple of the 4MTs. The front pocket was at the correct height on both of mine, so I just clipped a #19 straight in. On the rear I super-glued and screwed a #20 to the bottom of the existing pocket. This is a trick I'd used on some of the older Bachmann wagons with some success.
  2. I have the opposite problem, I took mine apart to put a chip in and now can't get the pocket to stay on!!
  3. Out of idle curiosity, how come these are now a full £20 more expensive than the Hornby ex-LSWR stock? Hornby's offering looks jst as exquisite to my untutored eyes. I understand the economics behind higher rrp on the inspection saloons and autocoaches because sales volumes will be lower, but should that apply to coaches which most will buy by the set load?
  4. After reviewing Bachmann's 2017 announcement I have pre-ordered a 9F Evening Star, a loco previously in production with the same reference number (32-850A last released in 2011 I think) ... so Bachmann clearly do re-releasing previous model. Hopefully we may therefore see a re-run of '592' in fully lined livery at some point (for those of us not willing to pay Ebay prices) ... or is that just wishful thinking???
  5. That was the question really, I don't want to ruin a model trying to get the old plates off. Didn't know if anyone had tried it yet. Might just have to be brave when the model arrives.
  6. Anyone know how firmly the plates are glued on? I was thinking of getting one and renumbering it.
  7. Alternatively, DCC Supplies sell the plugs separatly (here). I've just ordered one so I can stick a lenz chip in it (I like the shunt function). OK, it will require soldering 4 wires, but it is neater than taking the socket out and hard wiring it.
  8. Maybe they were hoping to peckett the difference ... ... don't worry, hat and coat already on
  9. I had problems with an internet order recently. Website said it was in stock, and it obviously wasn't. No sign of the goods or any contact from them even though I'd paid online. EMails went unanswered. I eventually got a refund, but it took multiple phone calls.
  10. More excellent service from Harvey this week ... and The Sun public house just opposite is good too

  12. Sure it'll look dead nice double headed with your Lima 33 £500 is a lot for a loco, and for some of us it has been 3 years of saving up. For that kind of money I want the shape to be right ... and it ain't. The doors/plates may have been flat, but there is a definite curve on the prototype at bufferbeam level. The drawings show it, and so do some of the photos. I guess the problem arose because most prototype pics were taken from an angle which doesn't show it. But that isn't the angle we normally look at our models from ... In some ways this has done me a favour as i'll get more enjoyment time out of building the jltrt kit anyway. Just hope i can do a reasonable job on the painting.
  13. I reckon we should have a competition to try and find a picture of Teddy not in his dog collar Cracking pictures as usual Dave, thanks for sharing them (including the non-railway ones).
  14. As Tony said, these are not original LMR, in fact I was told by the person who took the pic that the embankment ends just out of shot on either side. Would make an interesting diorama though, especially if you can get the right figures for a FIBUA attack.
  15. There is a full track plan of the Longmoor system on p75 (Map 55) of the new 'Atlas of the Southern Railway' by Harman & Nichols. In the meantime, here is a shot of Longmoor from 2012 ...
  16. Those drawings are of the 25/3, but lookng at the drawings of the 25/1 in other books the curvature is very similar. I'm guessing they decided to take a punt at not altering the tooling due to cost, shame tho. I'm hoping to get to Telford, so will have a look at one before I order, or maybe I'll go for the JLTRT kit before they all sell out!!
  17. Interesting to know if the opens will still go ahead now the merger has been announced. I tried asking Lionheart direct but didn't get a reply.
  18. According to Heljan's Facebook page the 25s will arrive at their HQ next week ...
  19. Does anyone know if the chemical blackening from Birchwood casey going to react with plasticard? I have some 7mm wagons which came with brass couplings. I was going to blacked them, but one looks like it could be a right pain to remove the couplings first.
  20. [panto mode] Oh yes it has [/panto mode] As well as Bachmann, who were knocking out painted 03's & 04's for £250 not so many years back, there is also the super detail DJH rtr version. DJH are currently showing 10 versions in stock, although the price has risen significantly in previous years. Whilst Bachmann is no longer available and DJH is quite expensive, I reckon many of those who have been into 7mm for more than a couple of years have probably got enough 03s. It is especially important to consider just how many Bachmann produced - lots! This was why Dapol went for the 08 (can't remember where they said as much though). I do hope Heljan don't get their fingers burnt on this one, but selling a second hand factory painted Bachmann 03 a couple of years ago was a pain in the rear. They'll have to get the price spot on with this one me thinks. btw the Class 14 is also available rtr from DJH.
  21. oh, will it be a South African Garrett????
  22. They were built during WW2 by the Ministry of Supply - not sure what exactly for though. Always love this thread, awesome pictures Dave.
  23. Thanks! I have a terrier which could do with a repaint to match the Hudswell and the Peckett ...
  24. Can you confirm that it is 88 and not 38 ... the former looked to dark when i was in my local shop tuther day? It could have been the shop lighting though.
  25. I contacted Heljan when the pics first started circulating ... needless to say there was no reply. Given the RRP if the error doesn't get fixed then i will spend my money with JLTRT instead.
