did you know Vodaphone made steam locos too? when they started about 20 years ago they were known as Hawthorne Leslie Communications, later changing their name to Vodaphone! and the people who empty the "sanitary towel units" used to run trams? they are owned by BET, British Electric Traction!

  7. Nice day today..Warley, sat with Steve Hewitt and talked signals, sat and learnt how to use a resistance soldering iron, did a bit of rivet punching on Jamie's gGreen Ayre stand, picked up some commisioned signal gantry etches and managed to escape without wounding the bank balance too badly. Got home to find my Locomotion L&Y radial tank had been delivered. Only spoiler was not making it to 'spoons for a pint with some RMWebbers coz of having to dash back for nightshift...

    2. Jon Fitness

      Jon Fitness

5 pints of Cornish Crown Stout was a good start...

Nowt wrong with the bogies on Mk3s IF they keep the wheel flats machined off and look after the bearings...

  15. Just leafed through the free copy of the Beano that came free in a newspaper today. Apart from being far more believable than the paper in which it arrived the words "fart" and "bum" seem to have crept in since I last purchased a copy ...which was when adverts started appearing in it. Harumph etc.....

    1. Boris

      Boris

Yeah, the humour is a little less Playschool and a little more Boris these days.

  16. Has just seen the plans for the "improvements" at the A55/A483/B5445..hahaha....ahhahahah...HAHAHAH!. Total gridlock every morning..just like now but it'll cost 5.3million

      Horsetan

If you were the contractor given the job of building all of that, you'd be laughing too. All the way to the bank.

I'm so glad I'm on shiftwork! I go through there twice a day but only during the quiet periods. The odd times I go through at 0830, I have to allow about 60 mins to do a 12 mile journey...Once this lot's done, Hutbers Law will apply....

  17. loose JLTRT class 24 windscreen now replaced..with the obligatory annoying unavoidable visible blob of glue...hmph.

    1. Mallard60022

      Mallard60022

have you tried varnish to attach windows or the stuff that aero modellers use for their cockpit canopy.

    2. Jon Fitness

      Jon Fitness

I've tried canopy glue in the past but it's basically PVA and lets go too easily. Varnish...not tried. Being honest, the window that dropped out was my fault. Clumsy fitting of a windscreen wiper. All sorted now.

  18. Chester PSB now has 2 shiny new banner repeaters for CR101 signal

    2. Jon Fitness

      Jon Fitness

Nooo. It's all just variously sad, predictable, dull depressing, trite, or any combination of the above. Much prefer to stay in my little bubble of nostalgia, everythings rosier there!

  20. RIP Bob Crow . Best RMT leader we've had.

      admiles

Matter of opinion that but 52 is no age to die.

    2. MarkC

      MarkC

Agreed about his age. 52 is WAY too young to die. Also, regardless of his politics, he was a family man. Sincere condolences to his partner, family & friends

  21. Will later today (after a 12 hour shift) be attempting to remove a 3ft diameter loft header tank through an 18 inch wide loft inspection hatch. Now where's my saw?

    1. davefrk

      davefrk

We left our tank in as we are at the end of the pipeline from Glasgow and now and again someone cuts through the water main somewhere in Glasgow and we're without mains water for a day or two so it's good to have a reserve.

    2. Jon Fitness

      Jon Fitness

Ah, good thinking but mine has been isolated for 18 months and is empty and dry. It's also in the way if I need to change the smaller header for my soon installed replacement solid fuel boiler.
