  1. D20 with light coat of primer Replacement Alexander 3940 tender with added detail including 52F lamp irons , I am awaiting a further brake standard as this is the water pick up version. I have also built a 52F models compensated chassis for it. A bit fiddly and the instructions could have been clearer but got there in the end !! More 52F their lamp irons fitted and new handrails to a Ebay bought Bachmann J72 which also been relettered and numbered using HMRS Pressfix , as originals where wrong colour and damaged Lastly I have started on upgrading these with the Bradwell etch handrails removed so far. You get one wagon underframe which can be made as the correct LNER Version. Enough for another three but it doesnt include the prominent brake handles which is a shame.
  2. Must have gold plated wheels I bought one recently for about £25 !! http://cgi.ebay.co.u...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  3. Thanks, I will have a look at MJT. He mentions in the instructions that they maybe available in 1995 from MJT, whether thats the case now i will find out/ email him if necessary. Any idea what type of axleboxes they maybe ??
  4. What castings for the buffers and axleboxes are using for the Bradwell 20 ton Hoppers?. I have just bought a Bradwell etch to do a couple of the LNER version. Mick
  5. I havent got anything hidden as far as I can remember everything is on here or on the old RM Web (same title)
  6. 52F Models do them as an accessory as are the Loco steps from another one of their etches The rear are J21 and id to the D20 the fronts are cut down Q6 steps. Very good service too cheers Mick
  7. Current rebuild of a LNER D20 a very old and basic DJH kit. Anything in brass I have added as detail , the main loco body is now nearly done. I have yet to contruct a cab area . I have Dave Bradwell , Dave Alexander and 52F parts to assist in this job. After this it will have a new tender as the DJH is very poor in comparison withe Dave Alexander version I have bought. This will also have a 52F chassis to give it the distinctive brake gear. The old DJH version I will use to give some tender variety for a old similar level of detail Nu Cast J21 I have already built. many years ago!. Progress so far , I am happy with chassis and bogie to stay as originally built. The detail is as good as I can get with supplied kit components.
  8. Some new work on my layout New engine shed , coaling stage and new sidings . Mick
  9. I forgot I had that book , just had a look and are they red or very rusty on the A7 ??? especially as its a goods engine I know the GER painted their rods Red so I can understand the Coffee pot connection . Sorry I forgot the origins of the chassis on the N8 well done Mick
  10. Looks a lot better !! Red Coupling rods ??? never seen them on a LNER Loco?? It maybe the photo angle ? the rear truck looks very close to the rear driver and a large gap to the rear buffer beam ?? Mick
  11. I have a built one let me know if you need details etc
  12. Hi Cant get the Nigel Digby link to work?? If you have the Harris Gresley Book as already mentioned earlier no way are the wheels the Paler Grey colour .The shade is ID to the Valances even allowing for shade etc. There is no logic in painting them that colour either as the paint scheme does not "flow" between loco and coaches with such a variation (in my opinion) , the best man of here appears to be 2512 who gives some excellent advice re all things LNER. perhaps he knows ?? Re the drawing I have seen them before , where most of the detail appears to be correct I do not agree with the Coach ID Letters he has them Silver they were Blue as per the Fox Transfers, which I have used on my models.(plus his wheel colour ) While I am here still not got any further with details of the Jubilee Kitchen Coach roof vents/fans even a rough drawing would be nice. Coachman etc Glad you like the Great Northern variations, I love them, all are cheapish ebay pick ups and cracking locos to boot in all departments. Bashing a Wills Two Road Engine Shed at mo. Mick
  13. In the few pictures I have found of the Jubilee they all appear to be Charcoal Grey as are the valances etc. The best close up one I have is in the Harris Gresley book which is the same shade of "grey" in the picture. I agree re the white wheel rims I missed that and will update them . Yes I am building the Seven car set my little layout will struggle with that length of train !! thanks Mick
  14. Yes they are both in a forward position on the model !! Mick
  15. My old ropey J39 is still going strong over a year since a drop of WD40 on each of the axles. It was going in the bin prior to this . There has been no obvious adverse effect on the chassis so far. I also have a Bachmann J72 very noisy but goes well, which is more than can be said for the Mainline version it replaced. Mick
  16. As mentioned before Enterprise is a ebay find. I simply tested the chassis by powering across the motor contacts on arrival, the chassis had been bought without the body and tender. I never thought to check anything else!! On looking at the return crank it was very wrong. On trying to run, the chassis was dead after a lot of fiddling . I established the pick ups on one side werent making contact with the chassis body and this was then adjusted to establish contact and problem cured. Whilst doing this on the other side of the chassis, that return crank fell off as well. i also straightened the bent bracket above the crank !! A proper check was now made, everything tightened and refitted in the correct positions. I now have a correct running chassis. It makes me wonder what on earth some people do to models in their possesion. It would appear for what ever reason ? someone had pulled the chassis apart. Probably trying to cure the pick up problem , but obviously never found the fault !! and then never knew how to put the pieces back on in the correct positions. Many thanks for pointing the wrong position of the crank , it has taught me a good lesson for the future !! check your purchase on arrival thanks Mick
  17. I will have a look and post the result !! cheers Mick
  18. I will have a look to see if I have one for the "offside" I know Hornby use a slot for a locator for the rods i will see if it can be moved without wrecking everything  cheers Mick
  19. I presume you mean Enterprise? it is a renaming exercise not a full rebuild. If you can suggest any improvement and how ?? it will be of great interest. thanks Mick
  20. Rob Its another ebay find as is Enterprise , a split chassis which I am pleased to say runs well at the mo and hopefully will stay that way . I didnt know they had made a new chassis for the J39 ? Mick
  21. Bachmann J39 with stepped tender. As far as I know Bachmann have never done this version in LNER livery ? Based on a photo of a J39 at Ripon in 1936. I removed all the moulding lines and repsrayed using Halfords Matt Black and HMRS Transfers. I added another oil lubricator and a wheel/handle to the smokebox as per photo. Then a light weathering. I only had a tatty secondhand J39 before this one and am surprised at how good the detail is on the loco.
