  1. The MJR issue No 95 with build of the Kitchen Car by Steve Banks and info from Mike Trice were/are a great help , otherwise I would have been clueless too
  2. Now ready for windows , curtains and gangways then its done . More done on the Kitchen Car sides now soldered and Tumblehome done. Next will be to fit the sides to the Hornby donor body. On seeing the prices of the next issue of Bachmann O4 I decided to grab one off Ebay for a good price. This is in the process of be backdated to LNER as a O4/3 version. This was used with a ROD Tender as supplied by Bachmann. Hence no Vac pipes and a 3 link coupling version. I have removed the Smokebox moulding and cleaned up the mould lines on top of boiler and chimney. The Loco has been seperated from the tender . Where the plug is connected to the loco I have bridge the connector s with brass wire and runs fine. Tender has the awful Coal casting removed and Lead of the same weight added inside the body instead. It will recieve a real Coal load. Next remove the BR lettering and numbers using Tcut and LNER via HMRS decals. I have asked via a seperate thread for correct numbers for a North East based Loco havent found many pictures either if any one has any please ? Yes I have seen the front bogie is derailed
  3. Nothing similar in Tatlows or N.E record . Possibly a G2 as lots survived post war. No markings on any of the axleboxes ?
  4. Another option depending on your room lighting is to block out the windows and take pictures then. My little Canon is quite good in artificial light without flash . Layout coming on nicely
  5. Now teaked and ones side lined out and drying. Now sitting loose on the repainted and narrowed chassis
  6. Thanks all. Well pleased with over 15000 views
  7. Latest Fruit vans from Bachmann renumbered , weathered and one with a White Roof Couple of opens done at the same time Restaurant 1st ready for Teak finish As a result of further information Roof Vents have been amended Latest offering from Oxford Diecast . As bought the Van comes with a Ultra Bright Shiny finish. I have toned this down with a coat of Satin varnish. Excellent value at £4.00
  8. Yes I agree , BUT this is much easier to bend and lay downs much better tooo . The only vulnerable part is the piece hanging off the end in the picture. Once fitted to underframe it is protected by the adjacent buffer. Hornby do the same as well !! , just be careful
  9. Bit more detail Hornby provide hairwidth beading on the ends so i have added microstrip . No way I could line that !! Waterpipes located with fuse wire. Another view of the roof
  10. They give a scale plan but no pipe run details. I have used pictures and details from Coachmans Gresley Blog on here (thanks to Larry )
  11. Restaurant 1st ready for paint Interior using Comet parts Underframes for Restaurant and Kitchen car , I will add steps to kitchen car frame when sides built up
  12. Sorry in attempting to remove the above duplicate post everything has become "jumbled" and refuses to go back in line. Hopefully it still makes sense. Any problem please ask  Larry I am afraid its Hornby's finest I think the HMRS boiler bands are now much better as Hornbys version is a bit skinny . cheers
  13. Firdaussi completed this has been a lot of work and feels like I have rebuilt the Loco from a kit . As well as the scratchbuild of missing/broken body and tender parts, to give you an idea the following have been made Nearside Steam Pipe valve chest and lubricators section, new Ash Pan Lever, new front section handrails, single chimney, both front steps , Cab seats, Cab fall plate and cab doors. The prominent top boiler seam has been filled and Banjo Dome added lastly a New Whistle. Most of the Loco has been repainted using Precision Doncaster Green which luckily is a good match. Tender has been repainted , streamile top fairing removed , replacement overflow pipes addes and new lost wax brake shafts as previous were broken when the tender took a nose dive off my layout Both Loco Boiler and Tender relined and lettered using HMRS Transfers. I also used a spare Mallard A4 Loco chassis with a stripped gear . The gear was replaced and new wheels, cylinders , valve gear and cartazzi truck fitted to the chassis. Now for the next project aka Coachmanns excellent blog . This is/will be a LNER Dia 10c Restaurant !st with Trussrod underframe using MJT parts and a donor Hornby Gresley BR coach picked up off ebay. I also await LNER Kitchen sides for another coach at present time. So far I have removed the sides from the donor coach. The floor has been narrowed as per Coachs blog and the trussrod and other parts fitted as below. Lastly a big thank you to Mallard 60022 who kindly obtained Firdaussi's etched plates from 247 Developments for me at the Doncaster Show as 247 is having problems with mail order at the present time. He also obtained for me new plates for my recent build of A3 Brown Jack. I had used Modelmaster plates on this loco and they just didnt look correct to me . Firstly Modelmaster (excuse the dust) badly spaced lettering 247 Developments much better spacingand correct width
  14. From the postage cost it must be that new Lead version
  15. Fancy a damaged Hornby Sir Nigel Gresley Ok its a limited edition (over 2000 made) but there are loads on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280629139425&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270705545468&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT The chassis went for £40. I have bought ones for £25 before (its no different than any other A4 chassis ) If your really rich you can also have the box start bid £15 plus £3.00 postage for a empty box 0 bids so far Total cost = £ 117.50 plus postage (if you want the box to keep it in ) :P:P:P for another £8 you can buy a mint unused example on ebay I better start bashing some of mine about Totally Bonkers
