  1. My old ropey J39 is still going strong over a year since a drop of WD40 on each of the axles. It was going in the bin prior to this . There has been no obvious adverse effect on the chassis so far. I also have a Bachmann J72 very noisy but goes well, which is more than can be said for the Mainline version it replaced. Mick
  2. As mentioned before Enterprise is a ebay find. I simply tested the chassis by powering across the motor contacts on arrival, the chassis had been bought without the body and tender. I never thought to check anything else!! On looking at the return crank it was very wrong. On trying to run, the chassis was dead after a lot of fiddling . I established the pick ups on one side werent making contact with the chassis body and this was then adjusted to establish contact and problem cured. Whilst doing this on the other side of the chassis, that return crank fell off as well. i also straightened the bent bracket above the crank !! A proper check was now made, everything tightened and refitted in the correct positions. I now have a correct running chassis. It makes me wonder what on earth some people do to models in their possesion. It would appear for what ever reason ? someone had pulled the chassis apart. Probably trying to cure the pick up problem , but obviously never found the fault !! and then never knew how to put the pieces back on in the correct positions. Many thanks for pointing the wrong position of the crank , it has taught me a good lesson for the future !! check your purchase on arrival thanks Mick
  3. I will have a look and post the result !! cheers Mick
  4. I will have a look to see if I have one for the "offside" I know Hornby use a slot for a locator for the rods i will see if it can be moved without wrecking everything  cheers Mick
  5. I presume you mean Enterprise? it is a renaming exercise not a full rebuild. If you can suggest any improvement and how ?? it will be of great interest. thanks Mick
  6. Rob Its another ebay find as is Enterprise , a split chassis which I am pleased to say runs well at the mo and hopefully will stay that way . I didnt know they had made a new chassis for the J39 ? Mick
  7. Bachmann J39 with stepped tender. As far as I know Bachmann have never done this version in LNER livery ? Based on a photo of a J39 at Ripon in 1936. I removed all the moulding lines and repsrayed using Halfords Matt Black and HMRS Transfers. I added another oil lubricator and a wheel/handle to the smokebox as per photo. Then a light weathering. I only had a tatty secondhand J39 before this one and am surprised at how good the detail is on the loco.
  8. Another Great Northern conversion to become Enterprise
  9. Silver Jubilee twin done. I have just recieved the Kitchen Triplet etches. First run behind my Hornby Quicksilver
  10. Unbelievable I bid £2.50 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140412328672&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT
  11. Early Hornby Great Northern version of the LNER A1 renamed and numbered Sir Frederick Banbury Solario Real Coal and etched Fire Irons added to tender Another battered NRM A3 converted to Singapore. This was in poorer condition than my Salmon Trout . This required in addition to usual new chimney etc , repairs to boiler bands, lamp irons , doors & ash pan lever. The front steps were both broken off and missing, I made some new ones from a much modified etch from Comet. I have also made a Flaman Speed recorder bracket for the other side of the loco. The previous owner had even managed to break the feed wires to the tender drawbar as well !! The Jubille 1st twin is coming along too one side finished so far (roof nameboards will be added last). Mick

Foxes superb :rolleyes: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LNER-A4-2512-Silver-Fox-Portescap-Romford-Finescale-/220603229738?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item335cfa262a This the second time this has been up at this price !!
  13. They maybe on a Loco detailing etch I think they do? How about MT 256?? The kit at some time resided in Hornchurch Shop a couple of miles from me . Never heard of the name of the shop or the maker before!!! that kit is a tad old!!
  14. Jonathan How do you fix this bogie into the bodywork . I have always wondered how to fit one and get it to pivot.?? Re the spud saga my Sentinel destroyed two with consumate ease on both occasions the nylon gears gave up the ghost after a couple of minutes. Mine now has a replacement Black Beetle bogie with brass gears much better . Good idea re floor the thing weighs a ton . I replace the awful steps on mine with scrap etch and wire too. Never had problems with the roof on mine but its over 20 years old so the mould may have been better then. Any idea which name you are building ? I have a 3mm HMRS decal sheet if you need it as the 4mm HMRS Version is way too big. Also the relevant Yeadon too My sentinel build is here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=547&start=250 cheers Mick

I love your layout too, is it fictional or based on somewhere? Tom I have a couple of interior pictures and the Isinglass plans. The layout is pure fiction cheers Mick
