  1. Somewhere in the house I have a 45EP record titled "N7's ON THE JAZZ". It's many years since I played it but it was recorded on the footplate of an N7 from Liverpool Street to either Chingford or Enfield Town, I must try and find it.
  2. There are several two-seater Spitfires that give trips, usually 30 minutes in length. I had a trip 7 years ago and it cost just under £2000, worth every penny and fulfilled a boyhood dream, especially 'beating-up the runway' followed by a barrel-roll! At the time there was only one aircraft available to do these trips. Not sure where the aircraft I flew in is based now but certainly you can arrange a flight at Duxford aerodrome in Cambridgeshire. Brian
  3. Anyone looking for a Huntley & Palmer version could try Buoys Toys in Cromer, Norfolk. They had one for sale (full rrp) last Thursday. They do not do mail order though. Tel 01263 519652. Lovely selection of scenics etc. here.
  4. At the moment Rails of Sheffield still show £121.50 plus p&p
  5. Have to say I was in Yorkshire last year and visited their well stocked premises a couple of times...............and my wallet came home much lighter!!! The people here are so nice and nothing seems to be any trouble, so I can highly recommend them. No connection other than a satisfied customer.
  6. Hi Gordon, My layout will never equal yours but I also have an ADM turntable and can highly recommend this. I have met Alastair many times at shows and can honestly say that nothing is too much trouble for him. I think he also had his demo set up at home for viewing. Brian
  7. Yes, especially when some of us already know what is coming tomorrow!
  8. Sadly, the N7 is not in the NRM Collection - but how about that lovelyJ69?
  9. Hi Ivan, Have to agree with you, things have changed - and not for the best. The end of Harrow Road went when they built Ron Leighton Way. If anyone wanted an example of how to ruin a neighbourhood, look no further than this area. Brian
  10. Sad to hear about the DOE closure, having worked in Plashet Grove for 46 years it was our Christmas watering hole during my early work years. So many of the old Companies have gone around there, Lacey's Cafe, Bells The Printers, Setchells Bakery, Frank R. Pratt's Timber Yard, Dawson's The Ironmongers, Grick's Jellied Eels to name just a few. I think only E W Moore & Sons Builders Merchants and Phillips Machinery are still there, mind you, I have not driven down there for eight years now. I can remember as a child playing on the bomb site where the original 'Duke' had been standing before a bomb hit it during WWII. One thing about that goods yard, it had a terrible smell of tin during the days when the sun shone on it for any length of time.
  11. Hi Gordon, Some, but not all A4 locos were equipped with corridor tenders to allow crew change-overs, there will be others on this forum who, I feel sure, will be able to let you know which those were. Welcome to the forum. Brian
  12. I count myself very fortunate as my other half actively supports my Hobby, in fact she bought me a 00 gauge Blue Pullman for my Birthday and is always encouraging me to purchase things for my (work in progress) layout!!! She also found me one of the beautiful Green Wainwright C locos at the Pecorama shop last week which arrived yesterday. Brian
  13. Has anyone wired up these signals using a Peco PL26 point lever, and if so, can you advise how. Regards, Brian
  14. There's always one who is never satisfied, isn't there! I am not able with my sausage fingers/eyesight and skill that could make anything like these products from Dapol and as far as I am concerned these signals will do what I want them to. Micknich should remember that everyone's layout is a matter of some sort of compromise. Dapol have done something that the vast majority of modellers have been asking for, for many years - good luck to them!
  15. Hi Andy, certainly if the 00 gauge versions are like this then I will be ordering some. Just one point, they look quite resilient when prodded but are they 'cat-proof'?
  16. Saddened to hear the death of David Croft, co-writer of Oh Doctor Beeching, Dad's Army and Are You Being Served. Met him several times at the Dad's Army Day at Bressingham Steam Museum and he was highly critical of the way comedy programmes were made for TV these days. TV comedy has lost one of it's greatest writers.

    Hornby B1

I was in my local model shop last week and they told me that the expected delivery date to them for those terrific looking surburbans is late December/early January.
  18. Hi Chris, The model shop in Station Road (Auto-Loco?) changed hands last September and has mostly switched to selling die-cast models, and second-hand stuff or it certainly seemed that way when I last visited in May. They do stock Metcalfe kits and another range of card kits, the name of which escapes me. The North Norfolk Railway station at Sheringham sell Dapol 00 wagons only, I believe. There is a Newsagent/Toy/Model Shop nearer the beach which sells Hornby at ridiculous prices, which may account for all the dust on the models in the display cabinets!!! The Model shop in Hunstanton is a far better bet. Hope this helps. Regards, Brian
  19. I think the Fleischmann TT is only available with their Profi track these days. They do make the other non-ballasted track version for Marklin though. It's pricey, the cheapest I have seen it is £250, but it's a good bit of kit. Brian
  20. Thanks Gordon. Managed to get the table off OK with your help. Everything looks fine (and remarkably clean) and I have put it back together. Unfortunately the table once started, will still not stop at the exit tracks as it should and it makes a clicking sound as it revolves and I cannot see why it should be like this. Time for further investigation I think. Once again, many thanks. Brian
  21. I wonder if there is anyone on the forum that could give me some advice, please. I have a Fleischmann HO turntable that has been sitting waiting for my layout to materialise for a number of years now and on testing to see that it still worked, I find that the tracks from the table itself do not line up with the outer tracks when it revolves, nor does it stop revolving once it starts when under power. I suspect that it just needs a slight adjustment to the position of the drive cog, but I cannot remember how to lift and remove the table apart from removing the circlip on the center spindle and I have filed the instruction sheet away in a safe place (lost it). Any help would be most appreciated. Regards, Brian
  22. www.bromsgrovemodels.co.uk has a page with photos which describes how to do this. Hope this helps.
