Now I've stopped crying, I will resume my point 😉 Wikipedia informs me that the first recorded layout was built in 1859 for the son of Napoleon III. It also says that one of the first scenic layouts was the Madder Valley layout built by John Ahern. We could no doubt argue forever and a day about who truly was first, which is not the point here. What is certain, is that in 1925 A.R. Walkley exhibited his 'portable goods yard', bringing the 'inglenook' to popular attention - and also 'proving' it was possible to have a small (6' x 1') layout with small British locomotives. It therefore follows that this particular anniversary is in 2 years time - 2025. Now, Mr Walkley's layout was certainly 'scenic' - you can see a picture on https://www.carendt.com/small-layout-scrapbook/page-61a-may-2007/ , for example. I wondered if anyone was aware that there were any plans to celebrate this particular anniversary? Layout of the Century poll? Another layout competition?...

No catenary down here, but at an away game I have seen a ball end up in the 6 foot at Wick (near Littlehampton, Southern Combination Division One). There is a big fence, but we had some rather 'agricultural' players that season... In the Division above (SCFL Premier), the Brighton main line runs past Hassocks. Track is in a cutting, so you don't see much, but you certainly hear it.

Steam to Eastbourne today, with 44871 on 1Z71. 9 minute late departure from Hastings on the way back on the way back (1Z73), as much as +18 at Tonbridge, but obviously a decent run as was only 5 minutes late into Victoria. Obligatory phot through the fence at Eastbourne from me following a late lunch break!

Yep. And then they'll do what everyone else who buys anything online does, stick it into Google (or Amazon!) to try and find a cheaper supplier - when they'll find out about all the other manufacturers goodies. Or, they'll go to a model shop, not unreasonably thinking that Hornby will be sold there, and be shown the alternatives.

There was a tour that took in Eastbourne around 2009/10 ish. I know because I was taking photos from the roof of the NCP (Junction Road) Car Park, and they sent a security guard to check I wasn't intending to jump! - He looked relieved when another couple of photographers turned up!

Thanks Don. Since joining the 2mm association back in January 2020, I've played around with a few ideas, but not actually started anything - although as we moved house that same month and have other priorities first, I'm more than content for it to be a slow-burner whilst I deal with other domestic projects! The positive I have taken from all this is that if/when built, it would live in a shed that's not yet been built - when we moved in there was a lot of jungle clearance in the garden required, and we uncovered an extra chunk of drive/garden down the side of the outhouse that both us and the estate agent had assumed was a boundary hedge! This good fortune may well allow for a bigger shed than I had initially planned - and as such, a longer layout, so dimensions aren't set in stone as yet, meaning that If I had to add length to make the plan fit, I could easily do this.

A confession and a question If I mistakenly planned out a potential first 2mm layout on XtrkCad using FineNtrax components, would all the geometry be wrong, or just the length of the turnouts themselves?
