I'm confused by this statement. Every photograph I can find of 37800 shows it with the window plated.

Looks good on the Decorated Sample.

It does indeed look good. My comment re 37800 is that it’s a good base. Blanking the window is easier than meddling with windowframes!

Interesting. I was comparing photos posted here of 37/4s in IC colours to photos I took of D6700 and 37714 when they were running on the GCR last year.

They’re a minefield. So the Bachmann 37/4 is perfect for any 37/4 pre-DRS. Those overhauled by HNRC for DRS got the plates side windows and reinforced windscreens and LED taillights - 402, 405, 409, 419 and 425.This is the spec that AS have chosen for their initial 37/4 offering so reusing them for other locos is difficult if you’re a rivet counter like me 🤣

401, 407, 422 and 424/558 have the LED taillights and reinforced windscreens but not the plated side windows. That means you can model these from AS 37422 when it comes out.

With some work the Bachmann 37/4 model is perfect for various 37/4, 37/5 and 37/7 models pre 2000, and as mentioned a base for 37800 as well.

Of course Bachmann have announced 37175 in Colas which should have the reinforced windscreens so I’m looking forward to seeing that.

Looking at the 2 latest models, and comparing those with the prototype and then yours, I think yours is by far the closest to the prototype. Bachmann have slightly thinner window seals but the shape is out (especially the middle window). While accurascale is far better on shape buy the window seals and where the roof panel overlaps the cab window panel is a bit thick (maybe to avoid them disappearing in a coat of paint). My god we really are looking at hair thicknesses now to find faults!

In the same breath, the access panels on top of the bonnets would look better as separate etched parts (IMHO) though I think Accurascale is more finer and better moulded here. Again splitting hairs....

Not putting John’s model down - John and I are friends and we had this discussion already - the windows are wrong on the 430 base model as they’re not the reinforced type introduced initially on the DRS 37s then the Colas ones. The AS model correctly depicts the reinforced type, which is why I was going to use one to respray into 405 until they spoilt my fun by announcing it 🤣🤣🤣

I’m just waiting to see someone do a 430 as 800 as it does have the right windows for that!

  4. On a separate point related to Bruce’s earlier. I’ve got both side by side now and I’ve sung the praises of the Bachmann model. The windows in particular. But I am blown away by the Accurascale model, it’s absolutely fantastic. Now I’ve looked closely I think the Bachmann windows might be too flat - the AS ones have a definite curve. You the punter will decide but for me the AS is the better.

    Hi guys

A few quick points on the sound, please let the supercapacitor charge up for a half minute or so before kicking off or if your controller voltage is a little low it can ‘look’ like a cut off or issues with the speakers. Hope that helps!

I can confirm that this works for mine.

The main lesson is you can't please everyone, I will be matt varnishing mine (like all my stock) to give it a dead-flat look, I don't like satin finish locos at all, even when modelling an ex-works one, I don't think it scales that well in 4mm! 100% of the fun in RTR these days is customising it to make it your own and Accurascale are giving us a superb base on which to start that journey 😎

    Cheers

    James

I am looking forward to seeing what you get up to with them.

    Hello

Just completed HNRC 37405 on ex Bachmann 37430.  Correct colour as per RAL number furnished by Harry Needle, decals on sole bar, multisocket on nose ends, kick plates at door access points and Shawplan laserglaze.

Runs very smoothly and really pleased with result.

Very smart! Where did you get the paint from? I just copied the 20 🤣

New Accurascale Exclusive - Tango Tractor! HN Rail 37405

    Hi everyone,

Last week we saw the exciting announcement of our second production run of Class 37s, along with the news that the first locomotives are very close to arriving at our warehouse.

Eight locomotives made up the announcement, but we did leave one out. Our Accurascale Exclusive of course!

Continuing our theme of modern era 37s and paying tribute to over 60 years of hard work completed so far by these stalwart machines, it seemed only right to introduce a current era tractor to the line up. Something bright, different, something that stands out and is easily recognisable.

There could only be one candidate; 37405 in the very colourful HN Rail livery!

Read all about it in our latest blog, and place your pre-order on our website for a Q1 2024 delivery: https://www.accurascale.com/blogs/news/new-accurascale-exclusive-tango-tractor-hn-rail-37405

    Cheers!

    Fran

I knew you were going to spoil my fun 🤣🤣🤣

And fwiw I think everyone is right on the door colours for 87 006!.....all photos ive now seen on 87 006 with black doors are on the corridor side. The grey doors seem to be on the opposite side.......

I think Hornby have gone down the right route on this model.

I’d also originally suspected this but this picture disproves that theory. I’ll shut up now 🤣

I bet they got repainted black as they didn’t prepare the surfaces too well and the new paintwork chipped off. I also suppose Executive dark grey was not widely available whilst BR was still experimenting with liveries. 87006 is on my wishlist, but with grey doors as I believe the original scheme to be. I may end up respraying one myself if one becomes available cheap!

I know I’m being a door bore but I don’t think it got them repainted, given it was released into traffic in grey in May 1984 and in Intercity by February 1985. It was a very short lived experimental livery indeed.

They look black to me, or at least a very dark shade that's fractionally darker than the main bodysides, and certainly the same colour as the cab windows.

As long as you - and your Dad - are happy that’s all that matters at the end of the day. Having repainted several models into this scheme in the past I’m in no doubt that the doors were the same colour as the bodysides, and I’ve yet to see a picture that changes that view, including the ones you’ve shown above, which in my view show the doors the same as the bodysides. There’s countless others on Flickr which show no difference whatsoever.

in nice light you can even see the blue already coming through too 😃

The cab doors must've been black at some point, even if not for the entire duration it wore that livery, as the pictures (not mine) below show.

I admit the colour is only VERY slightly different to the bodysides, and you do have to look for it, but the difference is there.

My Dad has just purchased this model and is very happy with it, and I think Hornby should be praised for picking up this little detail. Hornby aren't a perfect company by any means but credit where it's due.

I think all that those photos do is confirm they’re not black… window surrounds yes, doors no. Second from top pic especially it is clear that the doors are the same as the body.

The other thing to remember that it only wore the livery for a year or less so the only repainting that was done was into IC as per 87012.

You would think at some point a need to keep buyers happy would kick in, but obviously not. Hornby can die out with the kettleistas.

The issue is that they’ll release a new version on a diesel/electric and charge over £200 for it and people still buy them. Once that stops in might change but it won’t stop because of the personality traits of the must have everything collecting modeller.

lovely job on that 87. this is how Hornby should have done it.    looking at their inter city Swallow liveried version from the first of the newly tooled batch back in 2018 of 87 010 they got the red stripe right - correct colour right across the whole model.  I'm keen to hear from Simon this week as I think when he gets to see the artwork and approval sample that got signed off he might well create a Kohler sized hole in the roof at Hornby HQ.  If its the correct consistent red across the artwork and the factory have done it wrong then its tin hat time for somebody but at least a local Kent roofing company will have a high profile roofing job on the books.......   wonder how many they produced of 009?

There were issues with the width of the stripes on that one. I had a shocker of one where the red stripe was narrower than the white one 🤣
