I had wondered along the same lines as you and also went to look. A quick peruse on Flickr confirms plenty of workings attached to the Mk5’s.

Not sure what the comment is about.

Is there a reason why running 92038 with Mk5 Sleepers is in accurate? - Or is it a "I know something you don't" comment?

Caledonian Sleeper 'Stag' Branded Class 92, 92038

The model depicts the period prior to it being Dellner fitted when it carried the channel tunnel “polo mints” and Crewe eagle depot plaques, and only ran with the earlier mk3 sleepers. See my post earlier for full details. When 38 was Dellner fitted it lost the tunnel “polo mints” and depot plaques, which, if you have OCD like me, means you can’t run it with Mk5s as it’s not accurate 🤣🤣🤣

Bear in mind that both the 93 and 99 can run on diesel while the 92 can't.

The case of the 92 does seem slightly different to the case of the 60. When the 60's were abandoned, 66's and 70's, which perform similar tasks, were brought in; but when the 92's were abandoned, I don't think any new electric locomotives had been introduced. With electric freight trains handled by 86's and 90's, what jobs would've been suitable for the 92's?

The domestic electric freight hauled by 86s and 90s were Freighliner ones so not covered by DB 90s at the time.

When the 92s were abandoned by DB their domestic duties were taken over by pairs of 90s. Ironically, given where the GB 92s ended up, they were going spare because of the loss of the sleeper contract as prior to that, post privatisation DB 90 hauled freights were rare.

I’m not technical at all, but I think the sleeper 92s are heavily modified with a lot of equipment not required for hauling sleepers removed, but I might be wrong.

Outside as well rotting away.......i would think the weather on 25kv equipment does nothing for it either,we have these and dont use them and commission new electric traction, nothing adds up these days.

I suspect it will be more expensive to repair a rotting 92 than buy a new 93/99… and given the 92’s reputation for reliability probably preferable too, but I guess we will have to see how reliable the new locos are as well.

Reposting the above dates of liveries / operations…

    to bring upto date:

92009 (and 029) is being returned to service, and some HS1 based DB 92’s (92011) have been reactivated for use on Network Rail in March 2023.

92015 dragged upto Crewe on Feb 18th 2023 (no further reports)

Nice one. I looked at renumbering 92032 but of course 92028 and 92043 have lost the tunnel rings and the red element of the old GB livery (they’re just blue). The model is different in the fact that is has the old school lights not the modern LEDs that 28 and all the other sleeper modified locos have. And Dellners, which involves a slight mod to the bufferbeams too, which I hadn’t noticed till looking at them closely.

When did 038 have its Chunnel rings removed?

I was pondering getting it (funds permitting... which appear an increasingly distant hope) as the rings look good.

I thought the reason they were left through previous ownership was that they were difficult to remove.

Does the model have the Crewe IEMD Eagles on as well? It wore both from respray in 2016 until June 2017 but of course didn’t have Dellners at that stage either. Oh my OCD when I see modellers running it with Mk5s 🤣🤣🤣

It returned to traffic without the rings or plaques, with Dellners fitted, in early 2018 I think, it was the first to be fitted, and was involved in the early testing of the stock.

Seeing that weathering made me nosey..

Interestingly Bart is also now available via Rails…

    https://railsofsheffield.com/products/accurascale-acc2194-92017-class-92-017-bart-the-engine-stobart-rail-electric-locomotive

of the other sold out ones..

Rails does still have GBRF 92020 in stock, as well as 92023 Ravel

Kernows have EWS 92001 and 92020

amazingly Rainbow still has 92032 GBRF and 92003 plain rft both with sound !

Accurascales still got 20 of 92010 in CS left, its a limited edition of 500 with certificate, i’m surprised this hasn't been much more popular, as its the only one thats correct in CS for the mk5’s and suitable to renumber to some of the others.

Renumber you say? Haha. I even removed the lifting points as per the prototype.

I have taken delivery of 3 37s and only one sound. I have ordered sound decoders and two accurathrash EM1 speakers and wondered if the smaller speaker is already installed in non sound models.

There are no instructions for upgrading to sound and wondered if you will be doing anything on the Accurascale web showing best way to upgrade please?

    regards

    john

Mentioned earlier in the thread that the smaller speaker is John. Think the install is a plug in job.

And that pic of '418 makes me take another closer look at the size of the tail light surrounds 🤔

418 in current day mode is pretty much original. As @Torbay Expresssays the modern AS model covers those with DRS (and not all DRS 37s as I’ve mentioned on here before) - so has the LED tail lights, multi socket, plated bodyside window and the strengthened front windscreens. Some of the current DRS 37s (401/407/422/424) have all these mods but they retain the bodyside window.

They got me like that, damn it!. However it has cheered me up during a rather challenging month and it is serving a useful purpose as the testbed to work out what I’m going to do with the stream of other 37s on order. I am also mulling over backdating it, either with the earlier screen mouldings if available or else Shawplan screens. Whether I do this or just invoke Rule 1 remains to be seen.

I may also do similar if there are any 37610s left over at the end.

Sorry to hear, hope things are picking up. I’m looking forward to seeing how you backdate 610 🤣🤣🤣

I reckon the whole “3 shipments” thing is a ploy.  Come on, own up, how many of you did what I did, i.e. bought one of the first shipment when you weren’t planning to, purely because you couldn’t wait till the second shipment to get one in your hands?!

I bought 3 despite not having a layout, just to have a play 🤣

A little R&D. To remove the windscreens, I made a special tool with a cocktail stick held in a pin vice. The end of the cocktail stick was sanded smooth and rounded a little.

I removed the cabside windows which detach easily, then I exerted gentle pressure at intervals around the edge of the inner screen moulding from the front until it detached.

    Hopefully that makes sense.

    @cairnsroadworks @sulzer71 FYI

Amazing. Thanks for sharing. Have you been on to the spares department yet then 🤣 looking forward to seeing how you get rid of the LED taillights and open out the bodyside window.

edit - just saw your later post and suspect you aren’t doing as major surgery as I suspected 🤭

I love it - brand new model and folk already working out how to remove bits, swap bits and modify bits….

Model on dudes ! It’s alive and kicking

Always. The Accurascale guys spoilt my plans to recreate tango 405 with one of the first releases by announcing it in batch 2, so I need to get creative 🤣

Thanks again Fran , it looks a little odd as I believe it's not present on the real loco's but it's something I should be able to rectify , just out of curiosity is the headlight also a separately fitted part? I have plans to do something with the 027 I have ordered which would involve removing it

I’m wondering if I can swap the windscreens with 425 and create a modern split box!

Ah, I did not know. I presumed that EarthMover was an ESU term/brand! Certainly having added sound to a Sudexpress 1400 and Euro 4000, the chip and speaker came attached from ESU. Good that Accurascale in the UK are making it as easy!

OK great, that's the specification on the Accurathrash speaker on the website. Clearly the answer is that there is a single Accurathrash speaker that is fitted to all models, as well as being available to buy separately!

Only... being new to sound and wanting the best... these are the sources to my confusion -

The Deltic is here said having an 'EM1' speaker (through you say such a term cannot be used):

    https://www.accurascale.com/en-au/blogs/news/turn-your-deltic-up-to-11-with-our-dcc-sound-decoders-and-speaker-kit

Yet, the Class 37 is clearly saying:

    https://www.accurascale.com/collections/class-37/products/class-37-hn-rail-37405-dcc-sound-fitted

So, I shall ask again, but differently (please do not presume I am an idiot, I am only using published evidence to ensure I buy something I am happy with). Is the Accurathrash speaker available now as an accessory, from the Deltic timeline (first link) or upgraded to the Class 37 timeline (second link).

As such, and avoiding brands, we know now the Deltic is equivalent to EM1 and the Class 37 to EM2. The above links, would make the Accurathrash equivalent to EM1 and thus inferior to what you have fitted to DCC Sound 37s?

I do not want to end up buying the Accurathrash speaker as available, for it not to match a superior product in the Class 37. Clearly, as I have demonstrated, I am confused by the different uses of speaker terms (EM1/EM2) on the Accurascale website. Just seeking clarity, thank you for your efforts.

Don’t know if this helps, but it’s the same size as this ESU speaker - I don’t know whether it’s the same as an EM1 or EM2.
