  1. I bought the Titan saw and it is a good one for my needs as I don't use a circular saw that often. For tools I expect to use lots e.g. My Mitre saw or powerdrill I would get Makita.
  2. The class 37's were a mid to late 90s modification I recall, they retained their original numbers. The Sandite hopper was placed in the old boiler compartment
  3. Hi Tony, You are right it does look very close to the top, although not very visible in the photo there is one under the blue Austin Princess and the other side of the British Gas van as well which feels more like the correct place so will remove the one near the top. Thanks
  4. I suspect not, BR seemed to prefer Leyland Terriers and Dodge commando's
  5. As promised earlier in the week, below are some photos; with the weather turning wet and my in-ability to sleep reaching new depths I have made some progress on the layout: Since the last update I have secured the wing walls to the bridge and made the road surface. I have fitted drain covers and in due course will make up the parapets for the bridge. I have been working out which/ how many road vehicles will go on Parson's street bridge and ended up with this arrangement: On the railway side the ballasting has been done, it now needs weathering. I was finding the allover brown colour scheme of the layout rather depressing so have done some initial ground cover at the rear embankment near the footbridge. For the photos I decided to put some stock on the layout, I also find it helps a little with visualising the end result: Now that the layout is starting to have scenery on it the next stage of work is really the carpentry to box it in which will be quite a step change and will also allow me to move it from it's current very inconvenient location in the entrance to the garage
  6. When I worked for a road hauler we used to haul them occasionally and the ones we hauled were with wine for a place in Bristol. As most of the tanktainer go on road at some point they will probably not exceed 25 tonne cargo weight as otherwise the Lorry would be overweight. Tractor unit would be 8.5 tonne, trailer is 5.5, tank tainer 5 tonne(assuming it is insulated) leaves 25t for the cargo.
  7. I had to get the gas pipe moved for our last house extension, cost about £500 but only had to wait a couple of weeks. I did the online form but when the guy from the company rang me back he went through what was needed and saved me some cash as we didn't need them to backfill the trench/ make good as our builders did as part of their work, so maybe worth a call to them?
  8. Slowly unfortunately! I will get some photos at the weekend but the main change is the layout has been ballasted and the road surface is laid but that is about it since April...
  9. Agreed, it would have been easy to put it back in green as built. It is a big job to rebuild the nose ends now, to the best of my knowledge there are no spare sets of nose doors kicking around..
  10. Yes but there were a fair few more locos in BR blue than DCR livery.....
  11. As you are renting your house, I would suggest a wooden structure so it is easily removable if your landlord decides to sell up.
  12. My Dad had a Triang R1 and some wagons that he used to play with so I was given that on a 6 x 4 oval with a loop when I was 4. I was then given a second hand Hornby A3 "Flying Scotsman" for my 5th birthday then a new Lima Deltic 55022 and some blue grey MK1's/Mk2's for that Christmas as I wanted a diesel. I was hooked and must have owned over 100 locos and built 6 or so different layouts since. Despite my propensity to build then sell both locos and layouts as my skills have progressed, for sentimental reasons I still have the R1, A3 and Lima Deltic in the modelling cupboard.
  13. You have missed a couple which are very frequent in my experience "Will the train manager contact the driver please, train manager contact the driver" "We apologise about the late departure of this service this is due to a fault with the doors" "We apologise for the over crowding and lack of seat reservations on this service this is due to this train being a 5 car rather than 10 car train"
  14. Class 37 ETH index is really low, so is only capable of heating about 5 coaches, so of limited use with the measurement train. They were deliberately specified as a low index to prevent them being used on anything other than short provincial trains.
  15. The 17.00 to Bristol ex Padd has been 9 cars both today and yesterday, likewise the 07.00 ex Bristol yesterday was also 9 cars..
  16. The price of early Escorts seems crazy now, a friend had a book in the 90s which showed you how to create a Caterham look alike for pocket money, it advocated going to the local scrap yard and buying a MK2 escort for £15 I recall! 17. I was sat in one of the seats with no view the other day (usual 17:00 scramble for seats) Adrian and was surprised how little window there was but didn't bother me as with the recent sun it was actually helpful as I could see my laptop screen better. As the train journey is a continuation of my working day, I never bother looking out of the window and rely on station announcements and jolts from thing like Wooton Bassett junction to work out where we are.
  18. Indeed lots of them, and they were predominantly a double deck fleet in the 80's as well.
  19. Hi Ben, Is it part of the plan to do correct wheels with holes please? They are quite obvious due to the relatively open bogies. Thanks
  20. My Dad was asked to loan one of his cars to the producers of "for the love of cars" program but he couldn't make the date so a friend loaned his car. On arrival he was asked to make himself scarce and offerred a coffee so the various presenters could drive it and be filmed. When he got the car back the hood had not been put down properly so got damaged and the paintwork had been damaged by the camera mount.. Similar challenges about getting compensation out of the TV company that have been mentioned earlier, to the film company it is a prop and don't fully appreciate the effort required to restore an old car.
  21. Real tanker trailer would be 40ft so 8 cm in N gauge if that helps? That tractor unit is a lovely model.
  22. I agree with Rob, I have done loads of resprays using Railmatch aerosols. Take your time masking up and don't spray each coat too thickly. Use the HMRS prefix transfers and you will be fine and have change from £15
  23. I think it is a TA, the Engine and suspension were different to the TC and this is definitely not a TC. That said this car has a few mods, looks like it has a supercharger in addition to the Cycle wings and different rad grille
  24. As has been posted Rosencombe replicas do some stuff including a Hymac 590. Langley is also worth a look
  25. I agree about the SLW 25/3, the shame is they would have had things like the correct wheels which on the basis of the CAD drawings the Heljan one doesn't ( and before anyone pounces yes I know they can still change and it is only a CAD but is it likely..).
