I acquired a couple of ex LM designed locos in recent months. It has taken a while to get them sorted but they are now coming along. Both were built the late Geoff Brewin of Comet.
First up a Ks bodied Jubilee - Leeward Islands. It has a Comet chassis and a Comet tender. I have finished it with lining and some replacement bits added.
and a 3/4 front view
next up a Crab from the same builder. Will loco body and tender and a Bachmann chassis
and again a 3/4 front view
The Jubilee needs some toning down and they are then ready for use on Chapel en le Frith the new Leeds MRS Layout
Having obtained a Loksound micro decoder downloaded with Legomanbiffo's 08 sound files I took a Bachmann 08 apart (which, in itself does have it challenges) then fitted the chip (it fits above the glazing in the cab) and modifying the chassis to allow a sugar cube speaker behind the) the body was replaced and the loco tested.
It was then weathered using a 80:20 ink to water mix and powders (black, dust and a bit of "Rust".
Latest work, two EM gauge locos. The first a modified Hornby (by an unknown builder who also painted it)
Reaguaged by Mike Edge
I have now fitted it with a Legomanbiffo Sound chip
And an ex LNWR G2 in BR Black - built and painted by Mike Edge. This was also built in OO gauge a while ago by Mike - he has recently fitted an EM gauge chassis to it.
a really nice loco - lightly weathered
and a bit of soot and grime added on the top of the boiler
You may have noticed that recently I have been focussed on wagons. There are a wide variety to be worked on! All are fitted with EM gauge wheelsets (from Alan Gibson), then have instanter couplings fitted, then weathered. The fitted vans have pipes added as appropriate.
A few pictures, first up a selection of Fitted wagons.
Bachmann Shock Opens
and a Shockvan
Bachmann MOGO
and an ex Ratio SR 2+2 plank fitted van
Next up... more wagons and sound fitting/weathering a Class 24
Been doing a lot of wagons of a wide variety of shapes, sizes and types but all are now EM and have 3 links or instanter couplings fitted.
Bachmann 16T unfitted minerals have been part of the work. Just wish that Bachmann chassis were more "EM Friendly"! first up - one of the minerals fitted with a pressed movable end door
and a standard 16T mineral with doors in the floor
and the interior
First three of a lot more
An Airfix and a Bachmann SR designed 2+2 planked unfitted van
So a bit of weathering done today on locomotives for Herculaneum Dock - it is appearing at Southampton Show at the end of this month in much changed format. More tank locos needed so:
First up a Hornby (weathering from Hornby provided by chicking brown paint on it) Stanier - now weathered in darker black for its owner Mike Edge.
and the other side
and my two 2-6-4Ts
42069
and 42083
and finally a curiosity - scratch built by my old man, chassis fettled by Mike Edge
apologies for the photos but it was a bit dark today in the work room
Baz
The joys of having a number of clients with a mix of scales and gauges - it means I get to do all sorts of weathering and dcc fitting.
So today has seen six On3 wagons - these make Bachmann On30 wagons look small!
and some UK 4mm RTR steam
Hornby Railroad Crosti 9F
Hornby O1
and a Robinson O4
The latter two are brand new and were literally awash with oil. - A quick wash over with a bit of CiF before I started to get rid of the oil - and its still leaching through the plastic locomotive body.
Lots of visitors to the demo stand at Warley where quite a few RMwebbers (and others) had a go.
Had a varied assortment of commissions to do over the last week or two (and 6 more Conflat As still to weather).
First up a Lima "Compressor Van"
This has been fitted with Comet LMS bogies and is in EM. Its a vehicle Lima must have seen on Paul Bartletts brilliant Photo records.
some coke hoppers - all £H Kit built and very fragile - 8 shown on this shot, 12 in total
These are the same as the ones Hornby have just announced. All are in Em and have had the chassis strengthened with araldite (before they arrived with me) to try and keep them in one piece. Several have been modified to get them square but they are very light.
and a breakdown train - no room to get a shot of everything in one go but..
Hornby Dublo model modfied to run on EM track and reworked to remove the operating handles and string (chain used to replace the string) by Mike Edge
and
A Hornby man riding coach (regauged and new couplings fitted by Mike Edge) and a Ratio ex LNWR coach built and modified by me - again in EM
I have lost the shots of the water tanker and van to go with these - will try and add them later
A couple of DJH Black 5s - I believe these have new EM chassis from Steve Haley and a bit of paintwork from him too.
First up 44868
and next 44943
and a shot from above
Modified method of weathering valve gear employed - supplied to me with motion work painted a brown colour - ink added, powder added then "pulled" with a stiff brush.
Baz
Just for a change from the LM Pacific's I have just sound chipped (Digitrains sound on a Zimo 648) and weathered two DJH kit built A3s (I believe they were built, painted and lined by Graham Varley)
First up Sir Visto
Chip is in the firebox, speakers in between the frames under the smokebox facing down.
and its brother
Spearmint.
These are fairly clean - with dirt of the valve gear and top of the boiler
and a Brush Type 4 - Heljan regauged to EM by Mike Edge and weathered and sound chipped (Legomanbiffo) by me (speaker in fuel tanks)
and just a glimpse of Apollo, a DJH kit built loco weathered and sound chipped (Digitrains sound on a Zimo 648) by me - speaker is in the boiler as is the chip
I have bought some second hand locos recently. They came without motors so I have fitted Mashima 1624s to them.
First up Derbyshire Yeomanry a Millhome Kit in BR Green weathered down a little and due to be available for our new club layout Chapel en le Frith this October at the Leeds Show.
next up a Little Engines 04/8. For use on Herculaneum Dock next time it is exhibited..
and finally an Ex Geoff Brewin Crab - wills body on a Bachmann Chassis
Been busy weathering while at a show at Normanton last weekend. As part of the demo I was asked to show what a but of weathering can do to a set of Departmental wagons. These are all Cambrian kits built and painted by another, I have regauged them to Em and added couplings the a bit of weathering..
and, at the same time, I used a DJH kit built Fairburn Tank to demo light weathering...
Long time since I added anything on my loco blog. I have acquired a few locos but haven't manage to finish any of them. Apart from this one..one of my favourite locomotives
The Old Contemptibles - a Hornby Rebuilt Scot gently weathered by me..
Been very busy preparing wagons and vans for weathering. I have built some vans, rewheeled or regauged a number of others, fitted couplings and added transfers as required.
I am just about finished with Fish Vans (5 Cambrian ones are being built with longer wheelbase chassis) so these
LM (Parkside)
and
LNE Insulated (Parkside)
are some of the last ones for the time being.
For a changes I have also been working on a train of Ventilated Meat vans. Two were already finished (weathered bauxite) but the remaining 16 are in crimson or (mainly) maroon
but just for a change I have been busy with a few of these:
back off to weather some tube wagons... and some Duchesses!!
After a busy few weeks not doing any loco weathering i have just completed a Johnson 1F for a client in Australia. Its a lovely loco and he wanted it slightly weathered so:
Been busy but now that outdoor cricket is over I can get back to doing some weathering. I have done quite a bit of weathering recently but haven't had the camera at hand to photograph it. However here are a few wagons to be going on with..
First up some Parkside 21T fitted minerals:
I have been experimenting on these after a conversation with Stationmaster at Swindon (STEAM) show as we are trying to get the crusty rust/coal look on teh inside walls of the wagon.. this had got to ...
I have only weathered 1 A4 before so this was a welcome change to the LM locos I have been weathering recently. This is a Hornby A4 in BR Green - Merlin and I am very impressed by the quality of this model,
and a close up of this shed cleaned loco
And to balance the A4 a Red Stanier Princess - this one is Margaret Rose built by Mike Edge and painted by Graham Varley and again a shed cleaned loco.
I have fitted a Zimo sound chip to this as well as weathering it..
Finally got round to weathering my Bachmann Director. It has had a brass splasher top beading added and those awful sprayed on wooly silver lines on teh splashers removed before weathering...
