  1. Ey up! Quite a while ago I took part in some clinical trials using z variety of drugs. Eventually I started on a daily injection of semiglutide.. weight loss was noticeable. I had been on a weekly ozempic jab but its not available for the next year or so.. so they switched me to Rybelsus.. aka semiglutide tablets taken daily. These are a faff and don't seem to be as effective as the jab was. The trials were looking at diabetes effects on the heart. Cardiff specialist hate metformin with a vengeance (as well as starting which they are pretty critical about) Back to today. Its wet.. pah! Her indoorsbis off out playing crumhorns and recorders today. A bit of wire strangling may be achieved. Wooppppiiiiddddooo! Stay safe! @grandadbob get a plan of where you want to visit at Beamish then look at how you can get there by bus tram etc. That way it reduces the walking to get anywhere bit.. Baz
  2. Cvr(t) a Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (tracked) wirh a FV 430 armoured personnel carrier. You can use both on public roads.. Baz
  3. Oh forgot.. it has a proper fun fair.. Baz
  4. @grandadbob.. Beamish is very large now..so a couple of days may be needed to see most of it... novworries though.. plenty of places to get tea/coffee, food etc. Buses and trams run regularly around the site. Angel of the North.. impressive.. Durham cathedral..by far the best Cathedral in Britain.. Not achieved much today..youngest Herbert was on the losing side today. Baz
  5. Ey up! Back from a visit to Beamish (excellent apart from the weather.. sun, rain, snow and hail on occasion!) Then I decided to head to the Heugh Battery in Hartlepool ( which was attacked by German battlecruisers in 1914). Nice time was had (as was a bacon and egg banjo)... Main gripe.. lorry drivers on main roads. They should ban lorries from the major road system between 8am until 8pm. Why? Well they are governed to 56mph (the big 40 tonnesr have problems stopping if they go any faster) but insist on trying to overtake other lorries..pah! Beamish has been developing a new 1950s area. The work done so far is superb. Minors welfare (oap) cottages, council houses, police Houses (two semis with a police station tucked in the middle) etc. A trip on a bus and a trip on a tram.. excellent day.. but it meant an early bed time! Today.. no cricket umpiring any more but, due to most grounds being quagmire, few games to watch. Have a good day! Baz
  6. I would ask if I can join too following a fall at Easter! Baz
  7. Happy Birthday (belated) to Veronica. She just happened to have sent a photo of the Crab Shack... Baz
  8. Ey up! Hope Beth's op goes well @jamie92208. And I hope your train arrives on time @woodenhead. (Not something I can bank on with Late and Never Early!). first up today a visit to the new dental hygienist, followed by hoovering and tidying ...pah. Day should be completed by a trip to the MRS before my trip to Beamish tomorrow. Busy, busy, busy Have a good day/night/ morning wherever you are ERing in the world. Baz
  9. Is it retirement beckoning or end of teaching?... Dr Eldest is also having similar problems.. as in can't sleep so it may be a common theme for lecturers. Next up.. dissertation marking and reviews.. Baz
  10. Ey up! Heavy rain in Driffield means my umpiring today has been cancelled.. pah! The Over 60s are a nice bunch .. I know a lot of them as well so missing out on a catch up and a cricket tea.... PAH! I fear that I will have to get a hearing test. I too had measles but years working in Engineering hasn't helped. One fitter at Leeds used to stamp numbers into the ends of a particular item.. using a large metal stamp and a very large mell hammer.. hevhad ear protectors on.. we didn't always have them.. standing close to guns even with protectors on wasn't good for the ears either. Handy when umpiring though.. players assume you are deaf anyway. No cricket means I have a free day.. could involve muddling or gardening.. Enjoy your day! Baz now located in the mushroom shed..
  11. Ey up! Nice day yesterday umpiring a very nice friendly game at Escrick Park..the home of the Yorkshire Gentlemen. A bit of fun, some serious bowling and batting and.. it was dry! Not sure what I have been organised to do today.. yet! Enjoy your day! Baz
  12. Ey up! Sunny morning here, fingers crossed it stays that way. As part of my cricket umpiring retirement I am still doing odd games (mainly friendlies) for a while to help to get away from cricket teas... these are, at least in Yorkshire, a thing of great nutritional value. I have a busy week coming up as I am venturing North for a couple of days to catch up with history (a quick trip to Beamish is involved). Time for my mugatea! TTFN! Baz
  13. Was it from the Karachi ( or K) by any chance? Baz
  14. Pete could have taken his layout to Warley but chose not to. Baz
  15. Didn't see one last year but we did try the Mowe pick as per @jjb1970 s suggestion. Brilliant place! @monkeysarefun that platter looks nice. I noticed that an australian acquaintance was ar Crab Shack in Wellington Harbour recent where the staff wear t shirts telling everyone "We have Crabs" But tye food is very nice including the huge green lipped mussels and orange ruffle.. Baz
  16. Have you ever got north of the M25 recently? Obviously not as your very broad brush view needs to be revised pdq. Why? In Leeds and other cities, towns and villages, I am certain that the choice of foods.. generally available prepared by at least first generation visitors (as in Chinese, Thai, Bangladeshi, Indian, Pakistani and both Greek and Turkish) as well as Italian restaurants serve food just like it says they are described. I didn't notice any majore differences on my travels. Unfortunately I await a visit to a local Japanese restaurant to check it out. Our local chefs may not be too pleased about your views.. Food in Switzerland ( on my business vists) was never really that exciting...even when prepared in the General in charge of Army caterings Castle! Baz
  17. Ey up! Presenting to a group of muddlers today. They are expected to try turinng clean things into dirty things.. should be fun! No major aches and pains from yesterday. Good! But it reinforces my decision to longer umpirevleague cricket.. Time for a bacon sarnie (or so my tummy tells me!) Hope all of our missing ERs are well. Baz
  18. I have.. but did this as a favour.. everyone is very short of umpires. No league cricket umpiring just special occasions.. Baz
  19. Cricket was umpired. It was very cold.. Baz at Headingley. The ground was quite soft.. but.. as we left.. they were watering the square. All club cricket has been postponed around here..... Baz
  20. Ey up! Attended an umpires meeting last night. All was going well then I had to explain the concussion protocol. It's been in place for 2 years but few bothered about it. Now it has been restated.. the message is.."do exactly what the protocol says". Very easy you would think... nope any excuse not to do it was trotted out.. answer was the same "for legal reasons JDI" Eventually it was accepted.. boy didn't realise how stupid people can be. Off to Headingley to umpire two T20s shortly. The weather may reduce this to 1 T20 and a T10. Me? I'll umpire whatever the coaches ask me to do. Have as good a day as you can! Baz
  21. Ey up! Busy day ahead Including (hopefully) a pleasant time zooming with some like minded people. Teams is an awful package.. Microsoft have now 5aken it out of Office. Big problem is its old and creaky. Using it for interviews means it's hard to pick up on body language. I have used it for this purpose but I prefer face to face interviews. Time to geronwithit as O have a lot to do! TTTFN Baz
  22. Me and my big gob...by some use of more electricity we approached Leeds Station 5 minutes early.. held by a signal.so ended up 5 minutes late..pah! Which meant I missed a bus and spent 11 minutes waiting for the next one... PAh! I attended a panel interview for a post in the civil service. I was asked questions which I wasn't allowed to answer.then I had a sensible interview and got a role at JET..it caused a problem when one of the interviewing panel in the UKAEA was asked why I hadn't been selected. He thought I knew diddly squat..to be told I had all the right knowledge and technical ability to run rings round him.. Baz
  23. Late this morning. Late tonight.. LNER at its best.. ie carp... Azuma back is causing a lot of discomfort as is a fellow passenger who can't be bothered to blow his nose.. @polybear never ever had a cake with candles on! Had to take pies ans peas in in Barrow on pay days and birthdays. Long day and we didn't achieve enough to say its bèn a good one. Sleep well all! Baz
  24. Ey up! Late and Never Early has got off to a bad start. 5 minutes late leaving Leeds and now held by a signal check near South Emsall.. frabjoy! Nice pictures @Gwiwer but the Leeds.. York..Scarbados Coastliner route is voted most scenic route regularly. Off to Lourdes (the ECB need a financial miracle or two!). Meeting to be had on line tomorrow when I can get Zoom to cooperate . Have a great day! Baz
