Just been doing a bit of weathering on an Industrial. Its a Kitson "long boilered" 0-6-0T and has been scratchbuilt, painted and lined by Mike Edge in 4mm OO
It arrived in this state
I was supplied with some colour photos of NCB Numbers 41 and 42, and, after a bit of ink and powder application we get
Been busy with a bit of sound fitting and weathering over the last couple of days.
A couple of examples
First up a Caprotti 5 from a Comet Kit built and painted by Steve Haley Graham Varley. I fitted a Loksound V4 (sound from Digitrains) chip in the tender and 2 sugar cubes in the front frames (isn't EM gauge wonderful sometimes?) and then weathered it.
Question - were any Caprottis ever kept clean?
and for something different a Heljan CoBo - re-gauged by Mike Edge to EM. I fitted a Loksound V4 (sound from Digitrains) chip in the body and two sugar cubes in the fuel tank.
and the other side
I replaced some of the Heljan pipework as it is too flimsy to survive very long
In addition a trio of Bachmann Mk 1 have been rewheeled to EM, couplings added and weathered
Due to other commitments I have not managed to undertake a lot of weathering recently ..but I have started to work through the backlog today starting with 10001.
This is a Bachmann model regauged to EM by Mike Edge. I have fitted a Legomanbiffo 37/0 sound chip and then weathered it.
Been busy regauging and adding couplings to a lot of wagons recently. First batch to be weathered are a number of BR standard mineral wagons (24.5t and 16t) plus a brake van
First up a couple of 24.5t and one 16t mineral wagon
Not all of them will have rust patches but all have "dirt" added.
Now two 16t Minerals
and a 24.5t mineral with a brake van..
and just to finish off some Blue Spot fish vans - a mix of Hornby Dublo and Wrenn
So having been away from my workbench a while I returned and spent most of Wednesday weathering some vans and wagons -Unfortunately I didn't get photos of all of them "clean" but here are a few of the ones completed..
First up a couple of ex LMS unfitted cattle wagons..
then a Mink D - this is one with ventilators added to the ends - only a small number were built
and a SR BY
and a blast from the past and ex Ian Kirk kit of a 5 plank open
Finding good colour photos to weather these vehicles takes a bit of time and research but i hope the client likes them!
So occasionally I get to weather locos I really like. In this instance its a Hornby "Britannia" - Clive Of India On receipt I had to fasten one or two items back onto it and tighten one side valve gear retaining nuts, fit the flanged bogie wheels and add the goodies out of the plastic bag enclosed in the box.
Again this is to be a "shed cleaned" loco so...after adding a pair of ink washed crewmen and some real coal in the tender a bit of ink, some powder then a bit of a polish to get a bit of a shine on the loco where the cleaners can reach and ..
hey presto!
A close up of the front end - blow it up to see the detail around the boiler/footplate interfaces...
I bought a second hand Hornby 8f quite a while ago. Before I went on my holidays I had repainted the can sides and renumbered it as a BR engine. I have started to weather it so..
and a bit of a close up
Big problem is that there is oil leaching through the various "holes" in the bodywork... so more weathering will be taking place...
It isn't very often I am asked to do a "dirty" loco.. well here is the latest offering i have received to weather. Built and painted by Graham Varley its off to Carlisle and it is...
a V2 in BR Green in EM.
a close up of the cab area
and the dirt build up along the base of the bottom of the cab sheets and the lower edge of the tender tank
This Duchess was built many moons ago by Mike Edge and was painted and lined by Larry Goddard (Aka Coachman). Despite the many years away from Mike it has now returned via Carlisle and has been regauged to EM. For Horsetan - this is the livery Maroon Duchesses normally had unlike the last on in this blog.
This is a "recently cleaned at shed" loco - which wasn't too difficult a Coach's paint job is still very sound after all these years. Cleaners don't "do" right into corners according to the photos I have as well as some observations on preserved railways recently so.. Here is Duchess of Rutland
