As usual at a show I didn't get loads of wagons weathered. Some I had started prior to the show...
First up a Parkside ex SNCF 16T mineral wagon. All over dirt with a bit of added rust
I have been working on some ex PO wagons. One is an Oxford mineral. A bit of work with a glass fibre brush then some weathering. The other is Slaters PO. By using the glass fibre brush on some of the planks means the original brown paint shows through. Some numbers from Modelmasters and then just a wash of black ink followed by weathering powder black when the ink is dry.
Two iron ore hoppers.. note the Hemeatite Ore is not yellow - it is a purple brown.
A couple of Cement Presflos - using white ink washes then "concrete" weathering powder added when the ink is slightly wet
and finally for now
an ex LMS 6 wheel fish van. These were never clean and needs a lot more work on it to complete
Many moons ago my father built an M&L Cornwall locomotive together with its Inspection Saloon.
I lined it ..not sure I could do that now and this loco along with a NER Class A 2-4-2T with a D&S NER Inspection saloon has visited a large number of layouts over the years - including Stoke, Grantham and the Gresley Beat...
Long time since I posted on this blog. Today I was looking for a loco and came across a number of locos I hadn't photographed for my loco list. A lot are 2-6-4T - luckily they will come in handy for Mike Edges' extended version of Herculaneum Dock.
DJH Fairburn tanks awaiting weathering and couplings having been purchased recently.
a Trafford Park Loco
and a Bachmann version
of Lostock Hall
and a Stanier 2-6-4T
again last shedded at Lostock Hall. This one gas been rewheeled using Gibson wheels and interesting conversion.
more to come....
Perhaps I need to start to get out more...
I noticed a picture on a layout thread and thought ..that looks familiar! So, for your delectation I present:
A Bachmnann Peak EMd by the customer, SWD sound chip fitted by me(as supplied by the customer)and then weathered as per some very nice photographs provided by the customer, close up of nose detail
and some roof detail
While doing this I had another Peak for the same customer
And finally a couple of Heljan 26/27s
They are fitted with Legomanbiffo sound chips in some of the fuel tank enclosures produced by DC Kits.
Again some great colour shots helped with weathering of these (including a couple in Carlisle.. must get that one back from France..)
As a student at Leeds University I became a member of the Leeds Model Railway Society in 1976. I attended the Exhibition that year in October (Thursday, Friday and Saturday opening in those days in a dark (and cold early and late door) Corn Exchange. I was asked to help to operate a layout by Nicktoix which was also linked to the Wigan Wallgate/Gravity yard built by Mike Edge.
I had a brief overview of how it all worked and.. off we went. One minor problem was that A Ks Black 5 in LMS lined Black (built and owned by Nicktoix) has shed its cylinder and valve gear on one side. OK so long as you kept that side away from the public.
Move on a few years and Nick decided that late period LMS was a bit late for him (he had built Windermere in LNWR days and Buckden in early LMS/MR days. He knew I liked Black 5s so it came to me. The cylinder and valve gear had long since been refitted. I repainted it in BR lined Black ready for further use.
Mike Edge took the loco away to sort out the wheel flanges so that it could work on Herculaneum Dock......and then... well he has a lot of locos to build and... this week it came back home
I will repaint the wheels and weather it for use on Chapel en le frith and my own layout (when I get time to build it!)
Yes i like them and the Bachmann offerings are very nice. I have had 6 of these for a while and they may be needed to run on Chapel en le Frith if we can't get the Hattons ICI hoppers in time...
some unfitted ones - not to filthy
and a fitted interloper - too late for my time period but it may be swapped for another unfitted one.
I bought an ex Geoff Brewin built and owned Jubilee. It had been painted but not lined - so I have done that and named it Leeward Islands - it is for our club Layout Chapel en le Frith.
So after a break for a holiday away a return to work
First up another Bachmann 08. This time in Green it was regauged to EM and dcc chip fitted by Mike Edge. I weathered it and now it has returned to be fitted with a ESU Loksound chip )with legomanbiffo sounds) and a speaker place behind the radiator grill.
As this was weathered about 5 years ago I have added some more dirt around the exhaust to bring it up to todays' weathering standard
and I have just repainted, lined and then weathered a Black 5 44856 for a friend.
It awaits a smoke box numberplate but otherwise is good to go.
Some work for a client, Hornby EWS Sea Cows weathered to match some nice photographs supplied by the client. Graffiti generally by hand but some of Mr Railtec's nice transfers were used.
Rusty
a dirty one
a "patched" one
and finally a big lump of graffiti
as requested by the client these are sealed with Tamiya matt varnish.
Been busy fitting sound to a number of diesels and then weathering them..
Lima EE Type 1
Bachmann EE Type 3
Lima EE type 4
and 3/4 shot
and Heljan LMS 10000
and 10000 3/4 front on
The Type 3 and 10000 were regauged to EM by Mike Edge, the other two came with Ultrascales fitted. Pick ups modified on the Lima Type 1 to get it to pull itself and a train!
All fitted with Legomanbiffo sound with one or two CV alterations
In the workshop today is an EM Gauge scratchbuilt (by Mike Edge) model of the last LMS built Black 5 44767 - fitted with Stephenson link motion. An absolute peach of a locomotive!
It has been weathered to represent an engine cleaned at a shed.
three quarters front with the sun catching the dirt on the top of the boiler
