  5. In the Rail Online picture 861 has no MU so it would be in tandem with the 2nd loco. Also the date is wrong as 868 was working on the Southern that weekend, or the 2nd loco isn't 868. I suspect this was more of a positioning move rather than anything else... 2C20 was the 17.10 Plymouth - Penzance local... http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p634483962/h5c14a698#h5c14a698
  6. D1028 was on 1C51 19.00 Paddington - Swansea & D1036 was on 7C28 13.40 Acton - East Usk or 6A18 21.25 Cardiff - Didcot power station MGRs depending on the time you saw it...
  7. I don't suppose you have the dates when cl. 50's left VF for Crewe do you please?
  8. Originally only 803 to 821 were to work on the SR because they had the lower cab floor and the SCD was to of gone in the cab for easy access in emergency. From 822 they had a higher cab floor (i.e. less 'headroom') because it was realised that the Voith transmission was too big to go under the lower cab floor of the Swindon built locos so the cab floor was raised so that a Voith transmission could be fitted. The original idea, of course, was that (like the DB V200's) any engines (Maybach/MAN) and any transmission (Voith/Mekydro) could be fitted in any combination in any 800. As the NBL 43s weren't fitted with preheaters they never had the opportunity to be fitted with Maybachs (which require preheating) and only 822-832/866-870 could ever be fitted with a Voith transmission because they had higher cab floors. So a fantastic idea for total flexibility was perfectly designed out! In the end the SCD's were put in the engine room behind the cab door so any from 803-832/866-870 could be used. On occasions 833's and 7000's were used on the SR but I doubt whether an SCD was carried on the 833's. More often than not they would come off at Salisbury.
  9. 14.30 Paddington - Penzance FYI... and the day before D1040 at Knowle...
  10. On the Monday 6th - 809 was on the 11.20 Bristol - Old Oak Common 841 was on the 11.15 Paddington - Worcester and 16.15 return 853 was on the 12.15 Worcester- Paddington and 17.15 return 854 was on the 15.00 Kensington to Plymouth but it failed at Reading and D1040 took over. On Saturday 11th - 807 was on the 12.10 Paddington - Paignton 835 was on the 10.15 Paddington - Paignton 841 was on the 11.15 Paddington - Worcester 861 was on the 15.00 Kensington - Plymouth. Guess what? It failed at Reading and D1044 took over! On Saturday 18th - 842 was on the 14.15 Worcester - Paddington 855 was on the 15.15 Paddington - Hereford. Have you any pictures? Have you got any more notes? All notes help add info to the workings I've got and are fascinating and also help confirm what actually happened... Mark
  11. hopefully i've attached the May 1971 6300 diagrams....D63XX MAY 1971 DIAGRAMS.doc
  12. Some time ago I started to compile a list of Hymek liveries and dates (and likely dates) of change. Its a bit of a mishmash and I haven't looked at it for some time but I've attached it (hopefully) an some of you may find some of the info in it usefull..... D7XXX LIVERIES CHANGE TABLE.doc
  13. I have (below) a compiled list of Warship workings and from it I have taken the NBL's so you can see what they got up to in the last week. The numbers in brackets after (25) etc indicate the engine hours accumulated after working that diagram. For some reason some locos haven't lined up in the document... haven't tabbed for some reason?? I just hope I don't get to read this later in book by a dodgy journalist from Peterborough as 'an exclusive revelation'.... The information I have comes from the loco record cards filled in by the Loco Control as each loco did a train... Enjoy... 14. I don't suppose anyone has pictures or knows a link to pictures of the 3TC sets please? I will get a 4TC and run it as a 3TC. I'm torn between all over Blue and Blue/Grey :-/ ... My era is 1970 - 1973... Thanks in advance
  15. It's a 42.. you can tell by looking at the exhaust holes on the roof. On 42's they are in a line along the centre (as this one is). If its a 43 they are on the sides, on opposite corners (like a 52). This is why the roof sections on a Warship are small and easily removable so that if a 42 was fitted with and NBL engine the correct roof (and exhaust) could be fitted. So, you could get a loco with a Maybach/NBL mix with the Maybach exhaust coming out the centre, and the other end the exhaust coming out the side. The loco in this shot is not D856,it is D810 COCKADE.
  16. Geoff... here are pictures of 864... In the June 68 picture the skirts appear Blue... In the September 68 they are Brown again... And again in January 1971 they are Brown... And then in June 71 at Exeter after withdrawal they appear Blue... And then in August 71 they are Brown again... Trust me... no one painted the skirts for fun.... the loco kept Brown underframes.... dirty... covered in crap.... and rusty... but Brown nevertheless... Its still in its same livery as applied after its side swipe with 1071's collision at St. Annes... It kept the Brown skirts to the end... They got covered in crap... washed at Laira... and covered in crap again!
  17. 3rd August 1969 Phil. LNER Society railtour Paddington - Hereford to go and see steam at Ashchurch (6201 Princess Elizabeth) and Hereford (6000 KGV). It is on 6 Bells but they didn't know if it ran.... but it did...
  18. The Chocolate Brown (or Burnt Umber as it should be known) was first used on the XP64 coaches and was (obviously) designed to hide brake dust. There was a class 08 painted in Blue with brown frames in 1966 and Brown under frames was to be part of the corporate livery but luckily they saw sense and Black was used. By the time the design was changed the Blue livery repainting process was under way so only a tiny few got the Brown.
  19. 864 had no OHLW notices on the one side up until it was withdrawn. They were lost after its January 1967 side swipe at St. Annes with coach debris after D1071 split open the rear coach of a preceding train.
  20. 1008 at California Crossing, the branch to the Glos Rly Carr & Wagon works off to the right... great shot
  21. 1V95 was a Manchester / Liverpool to Plymouth service around this time. Services from the Midlands to Paddington tended to be 1V07, 1V09 etc
  22. In fact it has cut n pasted well at all. Does anyone know how I can do it?
  23. The 2 x Class 22 diagram was as below (excuse the font size and bold type; the document doesn't cut n paste very well for some reason). The other booked pair was 7B10 01.00 Exeter Riverside Yard - Keyham on a MO (LA194 A engine and LA195 A engine coupled at Exeter, uncoupled at Laira). The train worked forward from Keyham at 05.58 to Liskeard with the LA195 A engine (having been uncoupled from the LA194 A engine at LA) starting the diagram. Tue-Fri 7B10 departed Riverside at 02.40 and was booked an 800 (LA151) for the Cl. 22 forward. LAIRA - TURN No. 198. TWO X CLASS 22 (IN MULTIPLE) - 1100 H.P. 24. Thanks Jonny. 1015 appears to of brought its Stone train in from the West (Whatley or Merehead) and this is the same side of the loco as seen in the arrival shot at Plymouth as the white paint damaged area can be seen between the engine room and boiler room window. So the rear cab of 1015 in the Westbury shot is the leading cab in the Plymouth shot which is correct for having come of that stone train and gone onto the front of the train then headed West. The records I have stated 1015 went LD to Paddington that morning to work the 08.30 but your picture proves that wasn't the case and in fact 1015 was taken of freight work to cover for the original loco (a failure?) on the 08.30 so thank you for posting it Mark
  25. If you made an assumption that both locos were there for Works attention then the only time both 7010 & 6351 were together inside Swindon Works is between 20.12.62 and 07.01.63 (6351 20/12/62-14/0163 & 7010 18/12/62 - 07/01/63). In fact, using the same theory as both locos are awaiting entry to Swindon you could actually date it almost as 17 or 18/12/62. If you could see 7010's front end you could date it as it was this visit 7010 had its Yellow end added.
