  1. D7010 went Blue with Small Yellow and White windows from 21/12/66 so this picture of D6351 is pre the suggested 1969 date.
  2. I'm guessing you caught the 07.30 from Paddington? On the 18th 1015 worked West on 1B15 08.30 Padd - Plymouth, and went back on the 16.10 Penzance - Paddington (1A09) at 18.25 from Plymouth. D1009 came into Plymouth on 4A13 15.22 Penzance - Paddington Perishables. 1036 hauled withdrawn 1028 & 1051 from Laira to Swindon, 1048 worked the 07.40 Leeds to Penzance from Plymouth at 14.23 and 1058 came in from Cornwall on 1M74 13.55 Penzance to Birmingham. Don't suppose you know what came into Plymouth on 1V71, on 1A09 from Penzance to Plymouth and from Plymouth on 1M74 do you please? You also mention 1033 but that had been withdrawn by then? Don't have any info for 1013 tho, Can you help with that please? Thanks

  4. The stock for 1A36 came in as the 09.15 Plymouth to Newton Abbot.... just waiting for confirmation of the headcode from Mr. Street as he has my 69-70 WTT's on loan...
  5. It could be a Plymouth - Newton Abbot local, then stock formed 1A36... I'm on the case :-)

Spencer Works is now known as Llanwern and produced steel plate and coil. It was known as Spencer Works when it was part of the Richard Thomas & Baldwins company. Orb Works was also part of the RTB group and produced Electrical steels and tin-plate. Stewarts & Lloyds manufactured steel tubes. Monsanto was a chemical company located on the Uskmouth branch as was Orb Works. Monsanto possibly had coal delivered for boilers and plant? Lysaghts was an iron & steel works, near Orb works. 7. The Hymek (7041) in tandem with the 800 (if it is 821?) is Monday 8th June 1970. 821 had transmission temperature trips on 1V13 13.08 WLOO - EX so this put the time at round 16.00. The Hymek came on at Salisbury
  8. 823 arrived at Waterloo on the 06.50 from Yeovil and returned to Exeter on the 11.08 from Waterloo...
  9. Thanks.... told ya I didn't know much about them ..... and I'm from Gloucester ...
  10. I see on Wiki there was a Class 119 which seemed to operate on the WR. It had no head code roof boxes, and it would seem the same as the 116. I remember DMU's a lot.... but I'm not an expert. I run WR 1970's so could a model 116 be a 119 with renumbering? Confused of Bicester...

  12. I saw the model at Hornby Gaydon at it does look D849 (SUPERB). I have ordered a pristine one with Hattons and will be hoping that someone does a weathered BFY version as one of the last of the class to survive; 853; 854; 855; 857, 858, 862..... not 841 as that was quite clean at the end. I commented at Gaydon that some detail was missing from the buffer beam, namely the metal plate that the shed code plate was fixed to. I explained there was a plate welded to the buffer beam that the shed plate was bolted onto and that there should be a molded flat plate on the loco to which a printed shed code plate could be added. I think they thought I was just moaning so I don't know whether they took note and it will be added. If not, I'm sure someone will do a metal etch to add. Just hope that Bachmann update the 42 later...
  13. I moved to Bicester 3 years ago. Don't suppose anyone had pictures of Hymeks (or 22's) on the line please? Particulary at Bicester London Road? The diagram in 1970-72 was 8A86 06.50 Reading West Junction to Bicester No. 2 / SHUNT / 8A86 08.30 No 2 to London Road / SHUNT / 8A86 09.05 London Rd to Oxford South and after a run to Morris Cowley it came back to shunt at No 2 again 12.15-13.40 returning to Reading. It ran Monday to Friday. What was Bicester No. 2? Was it a signal box?
  14. I can tell you D7055 was noted as fitted on 16/02/63 with snow ploughs, D7000 during 03/66 and D7016 03/67. I can also say the shortest fitted was D7021; fitted on 05/01/72.... and withdrawn on 07/01/72! (although official records show it withdrawn as 01/01/72 it ran on for a while banking on the Lickey until Worcester were ordered by Bristol to stop it and withdraw it).
  15. Don't supposed you worked there in 1970 -1972 Tom?
  16. Does anyone know if there will be another pristine BFY Western coming from Dapol in 'OO' before this christmas?
  17. There were some LMS designed Sleepers in B & G on Motor-rails to the South West. I think it was in the Stirling to Newton Abbot service. I've seen a picture of a Warship with one of these sleepers behind the loco.
  18. What a lovely shot... Any details other than Exeter ? Taken between April 1968 and December 1970... and more importantly.... do you have any more crackers like this??? PLEASEEEEEEEEE
  19. I think they would be so fideley and get broken off easily. What might be good is if Bachmann did a detail pack that had an 'opened hatch lid' that you could glue or slot in place. Wonder if Bachmann will laser scan either 821 or 832 and offer an updated 42 too??
  20. When being painted the grey body side line was marked up using the cab front corner handrails as the height line. On brand new BR Green Warships Swindon used this 'line' as the top of the body side stripe, NBL used it as the bottom resulting in NBL locos body side stripe being a grey strip width higher up the body, along with the resulting higher cab side numbers. After Swindon repaints this issue was addressed. The Red / White marker lights on a 43 were identicle to a 52 and mounted in a slightly different place to the Swindon built locos' marker lights. If Bachmann go really detailed when they do the bogies the makers plate was a Diamond shape , the Swindon bogie was an oval makers plate.
  21. The colours are as follows - French Blue - Engine coolant; Brown (Tan) - Fuel Oil; PInk - Lube oil; Orange - electrical; Red - FIRE; White - Air & Vacuum pipes ; Black - drains; Green - Boiler water. I got a bit muddled earlier, the colours underneath are Green and Brown. I think on the DTG website there is (or was) a full length picture of the underside and that should confirm it. Having spent several weekends under D1015 cleaning and painting you'd think I'd remember.... but it was some 15 years ago....
  22. If it hasn't already been mentioned the Blue and Red 'thingies' under the loco are balance pipes. They connect all the tanks together (fuel & boiler water) so that all the tanks drain equally and are very prominent on a clean thousand. Blue is water, the Red should be Brown (tan) and is fuel, Humbrol Tan paint is the correct colour.
  23. The train that was banked from St. Davids to Central was 6C65 20.20 Friary to Exeter Central. From the 1971 WTT changes it ran as 6B65. As 6C65 the train also ran to Poole on Tues and Thurs as 6O65. From 6B65 it ran to Central only. There was also a Presflo service from Friary to St. Blazey on a Saturday and quite often Presflo wagons were conveyed as part of the many Friary - Riverside Yard & Friary - St. Blazey freight when traffic was light and a full train was not needed. From Riverside they were conveyed in a morning trip freight to Exmouth Junction, latterly in the dedicated Central trip or in the MoD train to Newcourt on the Exmouth branch. The engine that brough 6C / 6B65 to St. Davids usually became the banker and the engine off the 6C/6B5914.50 Ponsandane - Riverside became the train engine of '65' forward
  24. Hi, I don't know the pictures origins, I've never seen it before, just thought it looked like a good idea to see where somethings go wrong.... I'm guessing if Heljan scale up the OO loco then the problems just get bigger and more obvious?? Mark
  25. I've just received this picture of a 'O' gauge 52 and in this shot compared to the real thing you can see just how bad it looks. Not being able to do this myself I wondered how the Dapol loco faired in a picture of the same format.... just for interest?? I have to say I am more than happy with the Dapol loco.... it looks just so mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm but I do think this type of snap is a good illustration. My mate Paul has already decided to wait for a Dapol 'O' gauge... I'm probably going to get an 'N' gauge one too... I've not got an 'N' layout...... I JUST WANT ONE !!
