Charlie Strong Metals (and Watery Lane Sidings)

I'll have a dogburger with onions and ketchup and a white coffee with one sugar please. -
Plenty large enough I would think. Probably get at least 2 per wrapper? PM me if interested. The stash grows daily - as does my waistline.....................
-
Since this thread appeared I've been hoarding saving wrappers and have amassed quite a few. If anyone wants some I could post them on receipt of a stamped addressed envelope. Don't all rush at once or I might have to ration them! At any rate I was thinking of 3 or 4 at a time, more than enough for several wagon tarps.

What a great film! I particularly liked the Coleford Junction shunting scenes. Taken me back 50+ years to a time of perpetual sunshine (?!), Tizer and Ian Allan Combined Volumes. I also can't believe that I was singing along to tracks I've hardly ever heard since then. Some things must be really ingrained in one's subconcious! -

Oi! Stop taking my name in vain. I'm the only Grumpy Old Git in this parish (as Tim well knows............) -
I have part of a GWR tender. Came in a box with a vintage GWR EM 61xx tank.

Here's some relevant pages from the 1960 Peco Catalogue. I used 'Universal' spiked track with steel rail when I was a lad - still got some of the track bases and odd lengths of rail - but the wiring etc. of the points was beyond me at the time (as was soldering properly) so it all went a bit pear shaped in the end. I found other interests but, had I persevered for a short while longer, then Streamline would have come on the market and I would probably have been able to manage better. I also have some 'Little Western' EM track bases. With this system, pairs of small staples are fastened through the pre-punched holes in the sleepers, carefully flattened below, and the rail soldered to them. And there is also the Wrenn Double Junction! Somewhere I have a GEM Universal point (15" radius) along with various odd items that I will try and dig out in due course. EDIT - no idea why this ended up down here!! Don't think much of this current method of loading photos, you can't see a preview to check everything's in the right place before posting.

Good Quality Vice Recommendations

Good idea, I'll try that! Plenty of ally angle left after an abortive idea of making fiddle cassettes. My vice is a 'Record Imp No. 80'. A 3" clamp on type with removeable/reversable jaws. Plenty solid enough for 4mm work (and some household duties too!) and, being clamp on, doesn't take up workspace unnecessarily. I've had it for MANY years and it's still solid. Worth paying for a good reliable brand IMHO. -

I use a couple of short lengths of aluminium angle with another pair fitted with some self-adhesive felt. If they get to worn I just cut another couple of pieces. -
Drill them and fit short lengths of wire into the holes...........................

Higher melting point than white metal surely. Any idea what type/temperature of solder would be required?

Current / future 4mm finescale track option clarification

Well, C&L and Exactoscale do and, looking at your product, I can't see a great deal of inferiority. If you can produce a double slip in N then a B6 in P4 could be possible? -

These look excellent Wayne - but will there ever be a P4 option? Seeing as how the EM Soc. now have both the Peco option and yours, P4 is left a bit out in the cold. (Some people might say 'deservedly so' but I won't go there) Personally I'm quite happy building my own P4 pointwork but I'm sure that there are many potential 'P4 Competent' individuals for whom the necessity to build points (even with the Exactoscale ranges) may be the only reason they don't try P4. -
Don't our American cousins use Pewter sometimes? Harder than WM and (I think) solderable. Does it have any shrinkage concerns? WM does - but I can't remember the ratio you need to add to the master. I'm sure someone else will. Don't think lost wax brass shrinks- or does it?!
-
I used several of the Stelfox lost wax brass cast motor mounts for D10/D11/D13 motors. They worked OK and could be 'adjusted' (ie bent!) slightly to improve the mesh. Still got a couple in use I think, others were taken out as I started using Mashima/High Level alternatives..

TRYING TO FIND LEG ADJUSTERS FOR BASEBOARDS

The diesel shunter could be fitted with the Peco nylon conversion coupler which, after drilling out the rivet, drops into place held by a nylon 'pin'. I'm sure I might still have a couple of sets attached to some of my early wagons. I converted them to run with my Peco Wonderful wagons but, given my appalling standard of modelling back then, 'run' is a very nebulous term. Also just remembered the Trix 'wind-up' controller. One of the local shops had one which I tried out. After just a couple of mins of frantic wrist action I started with cramp. I decided then and there that the whole concept was a complete waste of space!

Oh dear, looks like a lot of work, especially for P4. Perhaps I'll wait a bit and see how you get on -
What is the axle diameter for the Bachmann wheels? Some are only 3mm whereas the Perseverance axle bushes will be 1/8". You will also have to remove them from the axles to slide on the Persy bushes and then refit them accurately. Use Markits, save yourself a lot of bother in the long run!

Someone I know fitted Extreme Etching's laser cut flush glazing to his coaches, sprayed with Klear and the Klear stuck the windows in place. They looked fine with the Klear finish as coaches are supposed to be clean - aren't they?
