  1. I have had a look at that camera but its a bit too big for me, I realised afterwards that you model in 7mm and I am 4mm doh!! Many thanks though for taking the trouble to reply to my query. Regards, Geoff
  2. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly, I will have a search for this camera, I thought the captured image was quite stable for a mini cam. I have just bought a SQ11 and it just switches itself off immediately, very disappointing, obviously a duff one. Regards, Geoff
  3. May I ask which camera you have as I need a new one for a drivers eye view of my railway, the one I have just bought doesnt work, I switch it on, the light flashes 3 times then it switches off☹️. Regards, Geoff
  4. I know this is going back a while but I am looking to buy a mini camera for a drivers eye view of my railway and yours looks to perform well. I cant see which camera you have as since the RMWeb crash many photos have disappeared, is there any chance you could let me know the exact model you have. Regards, Geoff
  5. Thanks Richard, if I remember correctly, and that is getting more and more difficult, I used a mixture of Railtec and Fox but the fleet numbers I printed on my computer onto decal paper. Geoff
  6. I used Motip Grey Primer, available through eBay, on some Hornby TTAs which I recently revamped, it is lighter than the Halfords primer. Geoff
  7. Another vote for a soft pencil in the pin point axle holes, use a 4B or 6B pencil, never use oil as Michael Hodgson said it attracts dirt and eventually causes drag. Geoff
  8. Yes you can, they are identical except no traction tyres, but as 313201 says, you will need a lot of extra weight in that power car or it will just spin the wheels while remaining stationary. Geoff

  10. I drill two holes ( about 0.6mm ) one above the other either side of centre then just chomp away the remaining bit with the tip of a pointy craft knife, then epoxy the hook into the resulting slot. Geoff
  11. Lovely work Jamie those underframe details are truly wonderful, can I ask where you got the jumper cable castings on the buffer beams of the 124, they look like the old MJT castings which I have now run out of but seem sadly unavailable now. Geoff
  12. I know the feeling Brian, its just so therapeutic watching the trains moving especially when they are full length like those in your video. I grew up in South Yorkshire and remember the Woodhead electrics well, being fascinated by their strange appearance when compared to other locos ( I didnt know what they were when I was a kid ). You have the makings of a great railway there and I will be watching for any future updates. Regards, Geoff
  13. I had some thin lighting gel acetate sheets which I cut tiny discs out of using just a basic leather hole punch ( for making holes in belts), these were then glued to the backs of the spectacle plates. They work good enough for me. Hope this helps. Regards, Geoff

This is proper model making and the 124 is shaping up nicely now, I am building a 124/123 hybrid as running in 1980 using chopped up old Mainline Mk1s and Trix bogies, not as accurate as yours but it is beginning to look the part. In answer to your original question letterspider about adapting the coupling on the APT power car, I totally removed the original couplings from the bogies and bolted Kadee No.5 couplings directly to the body as in the photo. I don`t have any tight radius curves on my railway and there is enough lateral play on the adjoining coach bogies to give trouble free running even when the body tilts. Geoff

  19. Didn`t Rapido Trains announce that they were to produce the prototype HST and then have a change of heart? I agree Hornby could cash in by producing it, I am sure it would sell. The Genesis cabs were quite rough castings and needed a bit of fettling to get them to look presentable. Geoff
  20. Sounds like a good plan, these test trains are a good subject to model being short and having a splash of colour to break up the monotony of the ubiquitous blue and grey. I am modelling the APT power car test train comprising :- Prototype HST power car (Hornby Railroad with plain wheelsets and the Genesis pewter cab) Test Service Car No8 (Bachmann Mk1 RFO with cut and shut sides) Hornby APT power car 1980 model (motor removed and Sommerfeldt pantograph fitted) Test Car 5 (Hornby Railroad Mk1 BSK) I get easily distracted (inspired?) by other projects such as my TransPennine hybrid Class 123/124 set amongst others so work gets interupted then resumes months later.   21. I discovered this thread whilst searching t`internet for detail photographs of RTC Test Car 5 as I am building a model of the APT power car test train and was wondering letterspider if you finished yours. I would love to see photos of the finished model. Geoff
