Millerhillboys N gauge workbench
millerhillboy replied to millerhillboy's topic in Modifying & Detailing RTR stock
V3 also returned from a light encounter with Alba weathering, the photographs here are really not doing her justice. Dave has taken the edge of the sharpness of the out the can paintjob and just matted down and flattened everything a treat. She's a lovely model, if I do say so herself and the gentle weathering has finished her off . Just needing final detailing, crew, lamps etc -

Completed a short ballast train, got another 4 wagons over and above these ones. The grampus weathered by the excellent Alba models. -

Added tractor loads to some bolsters and tried to show them tied down. The photo's have just highlighted the steering wheel is off one of the tractors -

Managed to progress a few things that are lying about, mostly wagons Trying my hand at 16 tonners, the weathering of which seems to be a subject in its own right. I'm not quite too sure how this has went. I think I like the colours and tones but I'm not sure about the rust spots, which I can't get out my head that I've applied with a tiny drill bit and I think it looks like that's what I've done. Anyway, feedback always welcome, good back or indifferent. -
Also loving the scenes around the turntable in the video. Really like the colours you've picked for the shed area and a great choice of locos all looking suitable grotty. Some pipework on all of those and it would be quite superb IMO. Out of interest what is the noise when the turntable is turning, is that from the loco speaker or is that just the actual phyiscal noise of the turntable turning?

9F looking suitable grubby for me

what a lovely rake, I'm looking forward to receiving a rake of cemflos from Revolution in due course and those pictures certainly whet the apetite for what can be done in terms of weathering. Mines won't stay clean for long that's for sure. Lovely work.

Great pictures guys, absolutely scale defying pictures
-
lovely lineup of thoroughbred machines

Interesting to hear the story Eric and in particular your thinking behind it which certainly make sense and fits in to the criteria you have, so why not.

Can I ask about the layout naming.... I'm guessing Longdrem is an amalgamation of Longniddry and Drem, but what about Pinkhill? I'm originally local to the East Lothian area and am curious about Pinkhill.

Those Farish 08's do look superb once put in their setting as you say, the weathering is subtle but spot on. The 2nd and 3rd pictures are particularly effective.

Whinburgh and Slitrigg - Main line across the border

Look forward to this progress as per your plan. -
It was tough enough a job in the late 80s trying to scribble down as many numbers as possible as we flew past on the push pull service
-
lovely shed scenes you are creating, love seeing rows of grubby steam locos. That picture which is just rows of locos outside the shed is particularly effective.

RevolutioN announce N gauge Sturgeon wagons
millerhillboy replied to Revolution Ben's topic in Revolution Trains
Anyone know if any of the dealers have their allocations yet? I'd like to buy a couple of door down versions in addition to my preorder. -
Great information Richard, I have bought sturgeons with doors so that's give me scope for carry track at least in principle. I might get some with the sides down anyway.
-
just pondering what to do with my sturgeons as well Dave!! thinking a few panels of finetrax atop them though anyway.

I can't even remember what I did, was there an option to just pre-order and one to pay in full? I haven't received any communication from Revolution regarding payment, nor have I received a model yet. I've actually just mailed them to see if I can maybe add another wagon to my order anyway so I'll see what comes of that. -
Scottish Region photos 1980's
millerhillboy replied to Clagmeister's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
Not sure a) how well thie will come out b) if this is strictly a scottish region photo and c) how much interest there is the disorganised scribblings of a 13 year old!! Visit to Waverley 15/9/86 Plenty more pages in the books over a few years including trips to glasgow, invermess, carlisle and newcastle in the same era if theres any value. Countless visits to Millerhill, Craigentinny and Monktonhall jn as well.
