  1. nice idea, I love the idea of sitting at a workbench fiddling about whilst trains run past
  2. incredible detail as always in that wall alone the bags of static grass are hilarious, they must love you as a customer though :-)
  3. you cannot see the merge between the layout and the backscene to my eye, quite remarkable really.
  4. Smashing set of pictures, and everything just looking so 'right'. Its always a pleasure for me to see your layout
  5. Good progress Iain, albeit unglamourous but certainly very useful in the grand scheme of things. You work looks very neat and well throught out for sure. Do you have track going under your workbench there at the top end of the room? If so neat solution but are you concerned about derailments and access in that area? I guess the chances are minimal
  6. No agreed, its something I see rarely done well too.
  7. lovely, looks like you've got the ground cover just right to my eye, right colours and textures even with the bits of coal scattered about.
  8. Coaling tower is going to look superb once everything else comes together. So good to see an N gauge steam shed.
  9. when you see those locos parked in the fiddleyard that would constitute a significant fiddleyard even at 2mm scale but to think these are 7mm locos is actually quite mind blowing.
  10. Ah wow, working lamps nice, now that's a nice touch. Modelu prints are highly recommended if you enjoy modifying out the box models. I use their prints for both lamps and loco crew. Well worth a look. Track is finetrax, basically code 40 done to N gauge standards.
  11. Agree with Duncan, lovely to see this type of layout with weathered stock, so often its not in N gauge and whilst I understand that I much prefer the weathered approach. Is that Modelu 3D print lamps you have on some of your locos? If not I highly recommend them, even more so now the print material has changed. Hope you'll forgive me poluting your thread with a picture of a lamped A4.
  12. I use IPA and cotton buds now and again, you can see the dirt that comes off with that
  13. Always been a pleasure to see Ketton out and about on its travels, I presume you didn't get a buyer for the whole thing or did you not go down that route. Be good to see what you come up with next, like Ketton I'm sure it'll be worth seeing.
  14. lots and I mean lots of new houses going in at Haddington, near the old station site, so wonder if the plan could be revived again
  15. Can almost smell the brewery in those last few pictures, lovely work......
  16. I know what you mean, I'm glad I got farish mk1s when I did for something like £18 or whatever, now that are a) just about unobtainable and if you do its £30+
  17. Always great to see what you are up to ATSO so please keep it coming. I'm just hoping you do something else applicable to me as I'm really enjoying my V1/V3.
  18. Can never have too much stock Neil I've got something like 22 locos, rakes of carriages, rakes of wagons and buying more (cemflo's) and I've not got a layout!!!
  19. Absolutely lovely work, amongst the best on here IMO. The rolling stock is just so spot on its unbelivable.
  20. Thanks Duncan It certainly catches my eye, one thing I remember clearly is that there was no such thing as BR blue, not consistently anyway. All sorts of variations of blue were on show to my eye anyway, whether it be different overhauling works or different exposures to light, cleaning chemicals etc. So to me you are spot on with your variation in blue tone. It looks very 'right' to me.
  21. Lovely faded blue on the 40, do you mind me asking how you achieved it? Its not something I know how to do.
  22. That was a great video and I thought the introductions really made the video. Much better than a standard footage only video of exhibitions.
  23. No you are right, a lot of people reckon code 55 is a good option and rightly so, my comment was in no way meant as a criticism by the way. I know full well the track dilemma, having had baseboards built for a few years now whilst pondering over which track to use, to the point of buying a load of code 55 which I'm now not using and I've now dived in a had all the track for my layout built using finetrax (I've no interest in doing it myself so someone built it for me). The layout is stalled until the winter but I've got 20+ sets of finetrax points made plus all the flex so it'll be interesting to see how that works out. Like you I had concerns over its strength, not because I'm exhibiting in this case, but just because I have young kids. Saying that the early signs are that there is nothing to worry at least witht the plain track. I found that once the ballast was down (I've made a few test pieces) the whole thing really firms up and feels really rather robust. I've not yet had any real world experience with the points though which could be a different kettle of fish, I don't know yet. Either way, code 55 still looks very good as your layout shows.
  24. That last picture with the 33 shows just both how good your modelling is and also how far N gauge models have came on. The only thing that draws any attentions is the height of the rail IMO but even that doesn't detract, the foiliage is quite superb.
