I'm already commited to the DeAgostini HMS Victory build, I think SWMBO would kill me if I suggest adding the Aston to the project list. LOL

  7. All I am going on, is what it says on the label in that it is a Granite chopping block. It does not mention marble on the label. I have not bought one for use. As I have a nice big lump or ground steel about 1" thick X 12" X 10" that I use as my surface plate. OzzyO.
  8. Hello all, in another post (IIRC it was about setting up chassis), you can get from Tesco's, Asda, etc a granite chopping board for about £10 that's about 12" X 10" X 3/4" that would make a good surface plate for our use. It should last a lifetime. Being granite you should have no problems with it acting as a heat-sink or any flux affecting it. OzzyO.
  9. I remember the 47s having them, but it could be that these blinds are new ones and the ones in the 50 are original ones. OzzyO.
  10. OK, I'll try again. The letters and numbers on the out side were about 1" wide A, but the letters etc were only about 1/2" wide on the inside A. Picture the two letter 'A's The narrow one on the rear of the blind and the bold one on the front of the blind. The best I could suggest would be to have a look a a preserved diesel that has headcode blinds. OzzyO. Edit; 'on the inside' inserted.

Not a good job with a sore head and a blunt drill! This allowed the first assembly of a remodeled end - Just caught up with this thread. i dont know why you would have a bad head, you only came out about 18;00 hours. Then had to be taken home by two young ladies at about 00;15. Not like R1(k and me going home in a Jo Baxie. All the best to you and the family OzzyO.
  12. Not wishing to be pedantic, but one thing that I have not seen modeled correctly is any diesel head code blind when it is lit up. On the real thing the out side of the lettering is about 1" wide. The back of the lettering where the light shines through is only about 1/2" wide. I dont know why, but on the real thing you can see it but you dont always see it in photos. I dont know how this can be achieved. May be a second layer of printing on the back. Just a small point, but if we can all help to make our modes better. The light always seemed to have a yellow glow to it as well. IHTH OzzyO.
  13. It's one of them jobs that I have been meaning to do for a while ( since I got the D/H), yes the job can take time but it saves you time in setting up the D/H. I was on my own when I took the photos so it was down to setting the shot up and using the self timer on the camera. I can remember one fellow who would use a mic. like a G cramp . OzzyO.
  14. It's been a while since I posted on this thread, so some new stuff for you. A set of M/C keys for my dividing head. Rough M/Cing the first side This left approx .010" on the side and base to be removed M/Cing the second side to size after the rough M/Cing We have size Center drilling the bolt holes, all four were done using the longitudinal index Drilling the M5 clearance holes Drilling the clearance hole for the Allan screw heads Two of the M/C keys in place on the dividing head Normally I would use steel for these but I had some brass stock in stock of the right size, so that was what I used. This is not the only way to do them but you only have to put the stock in the vice once this way. Thanks for looking OzzyO.

  21. Hello Brian, not sure of the Mk2s but the Mk1s are 12'4'' and the Deltics are 12'11'' so 7'' difference between the two of them. The Deltic doesn't seem to have the bulbousness to the sides and the turn-under looks a bit lacking. OzzyO.
  22. Hello Brian, if you mean the cab step its just dont look right maybe it is not recessed in to the body side enough. The large nose end grills look about the right size but to low down and a bit to far forward. Nice job all the same. Didn't get chance to have a word at Telford. OzzyO.
  23. Looking at the photos nice. But I am now drowning in a sea of froth. I'm on page two or three, no one has had a go. Right I'm a steam man I dont like how the step in the body side looks. That is all I can say. Have to go now as the men in the DPS coats have come to sort me out. OzzyO.
