  1. Well deserved! One of my favourites so far.
  2. Not too much actually! The Hunslet style nameplates with the custom lettering were £5 and the WDLR style number plates were £3.50 I cannot recommend Narrow Planet enough, great service. I also got some Dübs and Kitson works plates at the same time.
  3. Looks great. I'm very tempted to start a modular 009 layout along the same lines as space is at a premium at home. I had the idea of having generic scenery boards that could be used as a backdrop for nearly any module.
  4. Hello, before I take the hacksaw to my Hornby Sentinel and spare bodies, I wanted to ask if anyone had one of these (built or unbuilt) they don't need any more? They are out of stock on Knightwing's site and I haven't been able to find any elsewhere. Here are the potential victims by way of a threat.
  5. Cheers! Whilst I've been waiting for paint to dry, I've been getting on with a few bits and bobs. No.106 'Perseus' has gained a bell as it works the Knapford quay line quite a lot. Apparently the loco is ideal as the short wheelbase allows it to fit on to wagon turntables. I've finally added the name and numberplates to No.301 'Thomas Allen'. These are from the wonderful people at Narrow Planet.
  6. Bear in mind that you get either a skirted version or the unskirted one with valve gear. The skirted version does not have valve gear underneath.
  7. Aaaaaanyway, last night I added a charging port to No.106 'Perseus' at last. Originally I'd built this loco with no charging port or switch, so one would need to take the body off to switch it on. It was the lazy way of doing it but operationally not ideal. The port is between the cylinders to tuck it away.
  8. Here we are part way through installing the RC system in the YEC loco. The charging port has been glued in just behind the cab steps. I've run out of slide switches, some will hopefully arrive Wednesday. I've left the leads deliberately long during this process so I can figure out how it all fits together. What I may do is add a plug so that the Rx and battery are both mounted in the body permanently, and I can unplug the motor and chassis. There's also a tight spot in the chassis which needs sorting, possibly the wheels are slightly out of quarter.
  9. A couple of snaps of it in context to show the size compared to SCC No.3 and No.4 I should try to get hold of a Bachmann one to compare sizes. The Hornby one is much larger.
  10. I wonder if a wrapper on the chimney could help beef it up a bit?
  11. I'd not heard of these before, so it started life as a vertical boilered steam loco? How do you find the performance from the cheap motor?
  12. I've altered the timetables after some discussion - it was pointed out that there wasn't really a morning commuter service for people travelling on the main line and going to Tidmouth. So, using Cronk as the 'middle' station, I've added two services which start there and work in either direction. One of these (Train MI) needs to be hauled by a class 5 or above loco, as when it gets to Tidmouth it becomes an express rake and forms the 'Wild Nor'Wester' in the afternoon. Meanwhile the other set (Train MH) fills in the gap that was in the middle of the day, although it does have a tight turnaround at Carnforth.
  13. Thanks guys. Dave - I may well change the motor. I have some small 6v motors on order which may work better if I go down the RC route with this. Running normal 12v motors off the RC system is great for slow running but if you stall the train it's so hard to get it re-started as you're using so little power compared to what the motor is capable of. Hopefully the 6v motor gives slow running with a bit more power.
  14. I think it was about 4 bottles of ale from one of those variety packs you can buy from Tesco or similar. Quite good value for money. Oh yes, and two Stellas. Because I am classy.
  15. Yes sorry I was copypasting the post from freerails. I think your Smokey Joe might perform like my other RC locos, great for shunting. I do find that they need just a little more top speed, so I am hoping the 6v motor will give the best of both worlds.
  16. That warehouse door looks great! I really like the detail of the crest.
  17. Little update.... I tried binding the Rx to a different setting on the Selecta, but this wouldn't work and I got only the double flash. Then I tried the Rx on a 12v motor - no running away! Perhaps this is the issue, that the 3v motor draws too much current as you suggested? I have some 6v motors on order which may split the difference, definitely something to try. So far I haven't had to re-bind the Rx and Tx but I'll try leaving it for a while and test again later.
  18. Righto, I've ordered some adapters from Nigel's website, and some worm gears too, so I can start mounting it up soon (thanks for the recommendation Stephen) Here's the progress to date on 'Bill'. I've infilled the front of the cab with styrene cut to size, and cut the cab windows out. The firebox top is formed from a piece of pre-curved plastic, and more styrene strip was used for the bunker extensions. It's reinforced on the back with more strip. Here it is part way through filling and sanding. The holes in the running plate (that were left over from cutting out the 'skirt' under the saddle tank) have been filled in with more styrene strip (big flat'uns).
  19. So your thread is special but mine is not? Look, I don't mean to be rude I would just like to keep this just for my own models.
  20. Hello Dave Thank you for your help with this. I've tried it with 2 motors with the same results. 1 - I don't really understand what you mean when you say to test it? 2 - I have an Rx61 fitted to another loco which works well. I do have several Rx41 on order now so I can try one of those next week.
  21. Its been a topic of conversation a fair few pages ago
  22. I ordered one when I had been drinking. Hopefully it's one of my better inebriated purchases!
