  1. As a collector of old maps including OS that doesn't surprise me. I have in my collection a 25" OS map of part of Hornchurch revised 1925 showing my old school (built c. 1925) yet I have a 6" OS map that was revised later(1927) which still shows open country where the school stood.
  2. Afternoon/evening all from Estuary-Land. I was just about to set out to do some shopping this afternoon when suddenly Si Attica jumped in. That meant a couple of hours stretched out flat and a brace of Co-Codamols before he was gotten rid of. A bit late but now time for dinner, liver and bacon with onion gravy, mash and veg.
  3. I mentioned duvet covers recently, I've just found this.
  4. More sad news, that makes four in the past year.
  5. The question is how did he get it up there in the first place?
  6. The trolleybuses accessed the depot using a skate on the tram track.
  7. Today is the winter solstice, from now on the days will be longer.
  8. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The rash that I have is not shingles, chicken pox or measles but it's uncertain what it is but most likely an allergic reaction but what I'm allergic too is a mystery.
  9. The trolleybuses in York ceased operating in the 1930's. https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/11273915.a-look-back-at-yorks-original-electric-powered-public-transport/
  10. A new depot was opened for the electric cars in 1894 and that is the one in the photographs. Its quite likely that the 1898 map hadn't been updated to show it.
  11. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The way I put the duvet cover on is similar to putting on a sock. Turn the cover inside out, then turn the closed end inside so that the the corners are touching each other. then place the duvet in the closed end so that half of it is in place in the cover. Turn the whole thing round and pull the duvet through the open end.
  12. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Just spent half an hour fighting fitting a fresh duvet cover. If it was not for someone showing me a little trick I'd probably still be struggling with it now. Good news is the A13 re-opened between Sadlers Farm and Tarpots first thing this morning and traffic is flowing again. Apparently you can track the local buses, last night a 22 bus took five hours to travel from Pitsea to Benfleet station.
  13. Or the video that was doing the rounds a few years ago showing 4X4's slithering back down a snowy slope and a bus driving up the slope as if the snow wasn't there.
  14. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. The comments about Chinese and Indian cuisine set me thinking. Both nations have a vast land area means that different areas have there own style of cuisine. For instance Punjabi cuisine is probably quite different from Bangladeshi cuisine but each could legitimately called 'Indian'. If you want genuine Indian food Brick Lane in London is said to be the place to go, however most of the people of Indian extraction in the area are Bangladeshi and that will be reflected in the cuisine.
  15. There are also hippo's in Columbia, about 70, all escapees from Escobar's zoo.
  16. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I went out like a light last night despite Arthur Itis. I'd stripped the bed ready for some clean sheets but Arthur Itis prevented me from remaking it so last night I slept on the bare mattress with just a couple of pillows, no problem with the CH on. My rash is still there so I dialled 111 and spoke to them about it, they think it may be shingles which is a surprise as I had the shingles jab just over a year ago. I have no pain but it itches like mad, I don't feel ill at all so its only the itching to contend with.
  17. Someone photoshopped an S type estate and it looked pretty good IMHO. It looked better than one based on the MkII. There is a company making Mk. II convertibles that look quite smart.
  18. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis has jumped in with both feet tonight so I might have an early night tonight. This afternoon I paid for my auction bids, 364 modelling tokens including buyers fees, VAT and postage, not too bad as the bids came to £270 and the VAT at 20% was the biggest slice of that. They have several such auctions each year so I might bid again if anything catches my eye.
  19. I remember when it was a garage. It used to sell Reliant three wheelers. IIRC it had half of one hanging on the wall of the showroom.
  20. Apparently the alternative routes are now gridlocked. Someone I know who lives very close to Tony said it took him nearly two hours to get home from Pitsea.
  21. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Headlamp bulb sorted, hardly a DIY job as it involves removal of said headlamp. Speaking of which there was a car in for an MoT that failed because the headlamp covers were misted. I've noticed that mine were getting misted but not apparently bad enough to fail the MoT. I gave them the once over and they didn't appear to be as bad as they were. Then it dawned on me. A few days ago I had to scrape the frost of of the windows, when I'd done that it had also removed all the squashed bugs and bird carp as well leaving the glass crystal clear. At the same time I'd also scraped the frost off of the headlight covers and it seems to have had the same effect.
