  1. Jaguar cars started out as the Swallow Sidecar company. The name was abbreviated to SS cars when they started building special bodies for Austin 7's. The name Jaguar was a model name but became the manufacturers name after the war.
  2. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Very sorry to hear of the death of Robbie Coltrane. My favourite film of his is 'Nuns on the run'. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuns_on_the_Run
  3. The Westland, Clevedon & Portishead Railway started out with two 2-2-2WT's, both second hand.
  4. That did result in the police thwarting a car bomb attack by the IRA. They used two cars with false number plates, one (a Ford Corsair IIRC) was a few years older than the other. However they put the number plates on the wrong cars and the Corsair had an R reg. plate instead of the intended G reg. plate. An eagle eyed police officer spotted it and the bomb was discovered and the other car was identified and both bombs were defused.
  5. You can get after market transfers with the required insignia, check out decals on e-bay. Though the more conscientious traders will not deliver to countries where the insignia is banned. Indeed TT can sure belt them out. As could Meatloaf, in the news today his 'Bat out of hell' album was the best selling debut album in the UK charts.
  6. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Just went to get out of the chair and Arthur Itis caught me unawares so a couple of Nurofen have been deployed. I have had a bunion for several years now. Though it looks as if it should be painful as it turns my big toe inwards it does not usually worry me. However I've purchased a device called a bunion sleeve which I'm going to try out.
  7. But when Jenny Agutter appeared in a film set in Australia she wasn't wearing chain mail or anything else for that matter.🤪
  8. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Not much sleep again last night thanks to Arthur Itis so after another muggatee a bit more eyelid inspection beckons.
  9. There was nothing wrong with the 1275 engine. I too had an Allegro estate with the 1275 engine and racked up 80,000 miles in just two years. That mileage took its toll and the diff carrier collapsed at a busy junction in the morning rush hour seizing the front wheels solid.
  10. Evening all from Estuary-land. Been out this evening to the SEERS track night. Took along a couple of locos to test, all came through with flying colours, one just requiring a smidgeon of oil. The replacement printer cartridge arrived today so thats a job for tomorrow fitting it. Now to catch up with the rest of RMweb.
  11. The rule was that you could have an earlier reg on a newer car but not a later reg on an older car. So for example if you had a 1969 car you could have say a D reg but not an M reg.
  12. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Nipped down to Tess Coes for a few essentials and I noticed that the price of petrol has gone up 1p per litre. Not surprised the way the £ is going. Most air fryers are fitted with a thermostat like a fan oven. I use my conventional oven so little nowadays that its not possible to compare. But compared to the microwave it uses about the same amount of power. Speaking of air fryers the liners arrived the other day, to all intents and purposes they look like paper plates. For people like myself and @polybear who live alone the air fryer is very useful if you use it as a compact fan oven.
  13. Happy anniversary @simontaylor484 and his other half.
  14. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis kept me awake for most of the night by doing his rain dance, as soon as the rain stopped so did he. The rain was replaced by fist and mog but that is now beginning to lift. Breakfast has been eaten, now to run a bath, be back later.
  15. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Had bangers and mash for dinner, delicious. Mixed the mash, peas and onion gravy into one big lot. The replacement cartridge for the printer should arrive tomorrow then I've got to fit it which means I've got to slide the printer along the shelf to access the compartment holding the cartridges.
  16. It might be something to do with it being a laser printer. I'm not too worried as when in use it uses a lot of power, lasers are very hungry.
  17. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Just had a shower of rain and it bought Arthur Itis out to dance, fortunately the Nurofen is doing its stuff. The printer isn't working, its out of cyan so its shut down. I've ordered a new cartridge, thats another £44 spent. The original cartridge came with the printer when I bought it twelve years ago. Fortunately Lexmark are apparently quite happy with people buying generic cartridges unlike some manufacturers.
  18. Somehow the Germans had got hold of an H2S radar as used by Coastal Command. From that they worked out a radar detection device for the U-boats to use. However the Allies discovered this device and someone realised that by tweaking the H2S it would render the German detector not only useless but easily detectable. But Force Z was intended to have air cover but the aircraft carrier had been damaged in a previous attack and had to put into Columbo for repairs. Whether or not sending two capital ships out in narrow seas was a wise move is something else.
