  1. Evening all from Estuary-Land. According to the thingy at the bottom of the screen its still 24C. Similar temps indoors and despite the windows being open the air isn't moving.
  2. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Went to Tess Coes after lunch, not my usual shopping day but getting a bit low on cold drinks. In this weather I'm drinking three or four litres per day. Indeed the preamble to tomorrows program shows the flames getting close to one of the villages.
  3. As I mentioned I'm watching Help! I bought a village. I noticed that the fires in south west France are very close to where one or two villages mentioned in the series.
  4. Morning all from Estuary-Land. BIN day today and the lesser spotted glass and bottle wagon is in full voice so everybody's awake. Already 20C. outside but I haven't got the local prediction yet but its reckoned to be 29-30C. today according to the forecasters.
  5. The foxes are back, they were sunning themselves in the garden this afternoon and I just heard them having a scrap outside.
  6. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Finally caught up with Help! I bought a village. Only the final two episodes tomorrow and Friday, though there might be a delay in viewing Friday's episode if the internet is down. Very interesting but I doubt if I have the courage to do such a thing myself (I'm to old anyway).
  7. Much the same as other police vehicles but you might find some unexpected vehicle makes. A few years ago they were using Skoda's.
  8. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Spent the last few hours catching up on Help! I bought a village. Enjoyable to watch but its a lot of hard work. When my internet goes down on Friday there's a few things I can do only they are all outside and it will be a heatwave, Pah! I need to get some things out of the garage that can't be left out or worked on if it rains, Double Pah!
  9. I actually went channel hunting to get away from the Commonwealth Games and found an interesting series on Channel 4. It is called Help! I bought a village.
  10. I use leaf tea and a thick glass teapot with an infuser. After the first mug is poured I remove the infuser so that the tea does not stew and the thickness of the teapot keeps it hot. It stays hot for more than an hour.
  11. But many southern European languages have Latin roots. As we are aware language changes over time, we just have to read Shakespeare to realise that.
  12. Thats why American manufacturers came up with the air bag. There was a spate of horrendous accidents where front seat passengers had put their feet on the dashboard and the airbag had gone off. One unfortunate teenage girl lost both legs up to the hip, a fair chunk of the large intestine and her bladder and other injuries that meant that she could never have children. Ironically air bags can cause more injury if you are not strapped in.
  13. Thunderstorms are predicted here for Monday/Tuesday but the seaweed wranglers are covering their backsides by saying some of us might miss the rain. Also early next week Thames Water will be bringing in a hosepipe ban, thats sure to bring on the rain.
  14. A lot of it is religious. Like Northern Ireland the Catholic/Protestant divide is significant. The history also parallels NI in as much as they suffered a potato famine as much as the Irish did in the 1840's. The principle difference was that it was the agricultural protestant north that suffered more than the more industrialised catholic south. Antagonism between the two communities only reduced in the 1960's when economic changes took place. The potato blight did not only affect Ireland and Belgium but spread across Europe and even affected parts of England. The other countries were not affected as much as the potato was not a staple food as it was in Ireland and Belgium.
