  1. Evening all from Estuary-Land. My trip to the Mid-Suffolk might not happen after all. I telephoned my friend and he said he's not feeling well. I'll give him a call in the morning to see how he is. I don't want to travel all that distance on my own.
  2. My local chippy has shut down for four weeks. They are Greek Cypriots and are returning home for a family do.
  3. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Getting everything ready for tomorrows jaunt up to Norfolk. Plenty of snacks and cold drinks as the forecast is HOT, possibly 30C. Not really enough room in the cool bag for the ice blocks so one carton of drink will go in the freezer overnight. Also the drinking vessel will be going in the fridge overnight.
  4. There can't be much of the original timbers left:- https://heritagemachines.com/news/hms-victory/?utm_campaign=1007281_July 2022&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Kelsey Media Ltd&dm_i=5D8F,LL81,3IHCIX,2KHOU,1 Ironically some of the replacement oak timbers come from France.
  5. I was diagnosed as autistic about twelve years ago. Only mild autism and it hasn't had a debilitating effect on my life. In fact I have a talent for mental arithmetic that has helped me through life including being fully employed almost from the day I left school until I retired. Another trait is a meticulous attention to detail and being able to 'sketch up' a diagram or illustration to display what I'm thinking. Autism is a lot more common than most people think, there is an example of where the mother only realised that she was autistic when her son was diagnosed with the same condition. I realised when a lady of my acquaintance brought her son to an exhibition. He sat on the floor in a world of his own playing with some old carpet samples. I didn't think there was anything odd about his behaviour until his mother said to me "Excuse his behaviour he's autistic."
  6. Pity he didn't glue his ball sack to it.
  7. Don't you mean Opnorth?
  8. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I will have the air-con on tomorrow when I head up to the Middy. Since it was re-gassed it is far more efficient, in fact almost too efficient so I don't need to use it all the time.
  9. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Haven't done a lot today but still feeling cream crackered. When I went to Tess Coes this afternoon there were a few spots of rain, nowhere near what is required though. Going out this Sunday, to the middy, (MSLR) so I filled up the car while I was at Tess Coes. When I was in there I saw a display of seeds at half price including several packets of seeds for pollinators, its a bit late to sow them now so they are stored in a cool place ready for next year.
  10. Not killing for pleasure but strange behaviour by orcas. https://www.livescience.com/killer-whale-great-white-shark-killing-spree
  11. And domestic cats. But humans have bred and trained such dogs.
  12. Looks as if someone's done a conversion, a pretty good one by appearances but why?
  13. My thoughts on Mary Kelly are also left field. For one thing I am pretty certain she was not a Ripper victim and her murder was made to look like it was a Ripper killing.
  14. One of the SEERS members who died at the age of 97 a couple of years ago had four twenty foot containers full of books. It is only in the last few weeks that they have have been finally sorted and the majority found new homes.
  15. Nearly all of the volunteer firemen in the UK receive a retainer for which they are expected to answer the call whenever possible. Whilst on duty they are paid the same rate as the full time firemen.
  16. Interesting point, When you look at some of our nearest relatives, the chimpanzee in the wild you would find their behaviour quite shocking. Chasing down smaller animals and literally ripping the screaming victim apart. One of the most intelligent creatures on the planet is the dolphin, reckoned by some to be at least as intelligent as humans. Imagine if they had developed limbs?
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. At the last count I had about 3,000 books but the last time I counted them was about ten years ago. Since then the number has nearly doubled and it does not even include 'disposable' books such as fiction paperbacks. Currently I am reading 'Operation Pedestal' by Max Hastings, the story of the Malta Convoy in 1942.
