  1. Hello again from Estuary-Land. Just had an early dinner, cold roast chicken and salad. The salad is getting a bit limp despite being stored properly in the fridge. Also the bread is getting a bit dry so I might pop out when its a bit cooler to get more supplies in, Tess Coes is open until midnight.
  2. It may well have been a sales gimmick, describing them or associating them with the newest branch of the armed forces to imply that they are the latest technology.
  3. The higher Alpine ski slopes can get very warm. Warm enough for nude skiing. https://www.dailystar.co.uk/travel/travel-news/nudist-braves-snow-buff-enjoys-21449428
  4. You haven't added anything stronger than ice to your orange squash?😇
  5. I noticed yesterday that more people were wearing masks, and not just us old-un's.
  6. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. The upstairs thermometer is now reading 23C. I'd forgotten that I also have a thermometer in my bedroom, not exactly a thermometer but the old thermostat from the old central heating boiler were the temperature reading still functions. This is now reading 26.5C. and the thermostat for the current boiler is reading 26C. According to the app on my computer the temperature outside is 34C. with an expected high of 36C. There is a lot of talk about how our well insulated homes keep the heat in, I'm not going to go up into the loft but in a normal summer the loft is like an oven so I imagine its like a furnace now. I've now added a second fan upstairs and it seems to have a greater effect. I have the hall fanlights open and cool air is being drawn in, the hall is north facing and only gets any sun early in the morning and just before sunset. I have also looked at the Met Office app, at the moment the hottest place in the country is Birmingham with over 39C. hotter than London at 38.4 (Kew Gardens). The Met Office differs somewhat to the BBC predictions for the end of the week. The BBC are saying some rain in the south east but the Met Office are saying heavy rain Wednesday and Friday?
  7. If you scroll down the emoji's box a long way down to the bottom there you will find the emoji's. However they are inactive at the moment and display thus:- for example. Hopefully @Andy Y will be able when he is less busy to bring them into action.
  8. Mentioning seafood reminds me of when I was on holiday in Athens 45 years ago. There was a crowd of us exploring the back streets of the city when we came upon a Greek version of the greasy spoon cafe. It was in a semi basement and to enter we had to go down about 6 rather steep steps. In front of us was a row of containers bubbling away, fortunately the proprietor spoke some English and was able to describe what each pot contained. One of them was squid, which I tried and found it delicious. It was served up with some very fresh Greek bread. The sauce contained tomatoes and olives amongst other ingredients.
  9. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Up on the dot at six this morning as I have been for the last few days. That was the usual get up time when I was working only I've been retired fourteen years. It was still quite cool then, my thermometer on the upstairs landing read a comfortable 18-19 degrees. @simontaylor484 I hope the missus will be OK, at least she's in the best place. The newspapers have arrived, a bit late and I feared that I would have to go and collect them then I realised that the nearby secondary school is quiet, either they're keeping the kids in out of the heat or they've closed for the same reason. Now to run a bath before it gets too hot.
  10. After todays exertions I'm cream crackered so I think I'll give Farcebook a miss tonight.
  11. The light Crossley tenders were also referred to as 'RAF Crossley's' although they pre-dated the formation of the RAF. That was because often a single make of vehicle was allocated to a specific army corps and the Crossley's were allocated to the RFC so in the same way the Leylands were also allocated to the RFC. I can't lay my hands on the information at present but Leyland and AEC provided the majority of trucks used by British forces in WW1 with AEC slightly ahead.
  12. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Still 20C, thats nothing to whats predicted for tomorrow night. Today went well, didn't spend anything at the toy fair, some of the traders didn't turn up and there was only a third of the usual crowd of punters, not a surprise though it wasn't too warm but by the time we left it was getting warmer. The event at Canvey was a bit cooler, the museum is a barn of a building open at both ends and consequentially cooler and was quite pleasant. Its right at the end of the island and according to the map will be in the amber zone whereas the rest of the island will be in the red zone. Even had time to pop into Tess Coes where in the reduced cabinet I found some 'Bresaola della Valtellina' reduced from £2.35 to 89p so I got some panini and some salads and that was this evenings meal. I did have an appointment to have my ears lowered on Tuesday, the barbers is in Tess Coes so I changed it to Thursday. In the circumstances I had the air-con in the car going full blast all of the time.
  13. Its likely to get planted where there's no worries about manure.
  14. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Practically every hour the predicted temperature on Tuesday goes up, now its 41C., whatever it is its too hot. Off out shortly to the two local events, the second although I will be there when it is hottest will be the most comfortable. Usually it is cold and draughty even in the summer so should be cooler.
  15. I do also recall a series of card kits, possibly Riko the included a Greenline bus and a Wallis-Stevens road roller. They were produced about 30-40 years ago.
  16. I prefer to wear a gilet, all those extra pockets are very useful. Whatever trousers I wear I invariably wear braces as it makes the trousers hang neatly and especially in this hot weather belts can chafe.
  17. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Just eaten dinner, cheese salad with some olives. With the windows open the smell of barbeques was overpowering and no doubt the local foxes will not be going hungry this evening. Arthur Itis has been making a few grumbles but nothing serious. It seems the two local events I plan to visit are still going ahead tomorrow though the toy fair will not exactly be overcrowded in the current heatwave. The transport museum on Canvey is/was always cold anyway so should be quite comfortable even in this heat..
  18. The Chivers van is the 'RAF Leyland'. They got the name because most of them went to the RAF in WW1. After the war finished Leyland realising that the war surplus vehicles would affect their sales purchased as many of them as they could and refurbished them. At the time Leyland was a relatively small manufacturer and it was the only way they could stay in business.
