  1. I think that the O gauge shunting plank as a work in progress had some interesting industrial shunters and I can see this becoming a gem.
  2. Interesting video on YouTube from the steam channel Just compare with UK models for the prices!
  3. Nice to see Hawk the blue Kitson Meyer is running again. I often have a ride when not at the Middleton.
  4. The most efficient fuel gauge is a garden cane dipping into the tank from the filler.
  5. The Middleton Railway has a North Eastern H class 0-4-0ST 1310 which the LNER sold to a colliery in the North East. It ended the days with NCB lettering before being preserved. Many industries and light railways hired in motive power. An agreement existed for the LMS 1F 41708 which was based at Barrow Hill for the Staveley company. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staveley_Coal_and_Iron_Company
  6. The hand cranes located at each station in the goods yards seem to be prominent feature. Are they going to be modelled? See photos in the topic above.
  7. A few years ago I was on Chippenham station (a Saturday morning) heading to Bath for a day out including beer and rugby. The staff at the station told me one train has been cancelled and the next will be about 30 minutes time. They persuaded all passengers that they would be taken by taxis to Bath. I was willing to wait as it was part of a relaxing day out! My off peak return was probably far less than the single taxi fare.
  8. The photo of the clergy waiting room reminds me of the photo I took of a window of a third class coach with reserved for clergy above it. A friend liked it as he is a man of the cloth. Wabtec (who currently own the Hunslet brand) have been approached for quite a few spares for the Y class 0-6-0DH. This includes new axles.
  9. This is a very interesting project, thanks for the updates. Those who are interested in the railway history should read "Railways of Sri Lanka" by David Hyatt. I posted quite a few photos of my travels in the country on here whilst I was there. See the following link. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/81152-ceylon-or-sri-lanka/
  10. I'll be there on Sunday with the Middleton Railway based colliery layout. For those who would like to ride the train on Saturday we have Hudswell Clarke D1373 0-6-0DH Mersey Docks and Harbour Board 45 and on Sunday steam with Manning Wardle Matthew Murray. We are about 20 minutes drive away. Times from 1100 every 40 minutes until 1600.
  11. My sound fitted one arrived yesterday when I was at the Middleton playing with 305mm:foot scale trains. Just had a chance this morning to give it a little run. I'm pleased to say she seems to stall less on the track than other locomotives and the sound is spot on.
  12. Looks like mine is coming directly from GV, also have an email indicating shipping early next week.
  13. Just had a call from Golden Valley the sound fitted locomotive is being shipped early next week.
  14. Sounds done by Legomanbiffo rather than Oxford. Talking with Charlie last said they were being fitted by the factory to the models. He mentioned they have been busy doing sounds for the Dapol N King.
  15. The data for 2018 is 10th march as per the website above.
  16. With his love of steam trains and wildlife there are many classic paintings with both subjects in that we can still enjoy. What a legacy of work he leaves us to admire.
  17. Are the sound fitted locomotives being fitted by the factory or by someone else in the UK? Just wondering how many are likely to be factory fitted as a percentage of the production.
  18. I think that MSC is gorgeous. That reminds me of when at Middleton we had the Hudswell Clarke locomotive in action in this shade of grey. Looks like I need to order one. http://www.leedsengine.info/leeds/photo.asp?phby=www.leedsengine.info&photo=/leeds/images/Hudswell%20Clarke/Standard%20Gauge%20Loco/Steam/hc1369%20msc%2067%20middleton%20(3).jpg&loco=Hc1369%20Msc%2067%20Middleton%20(3)
  19. Often wonder if you have a long train if you could probably stop at both but end up with the ability to walk from the rear carriage to the front between the two stations! Talking about airports, last year I was in Atlanta and there is an underground railroad linking the terminals. There are parallel walkways and between two close terminii you are probably going to be quicker walking.
  20. On Saturday afternoon I was chatting with a friend who lives on the island. He mentioned that there had been an issue with the brakes on a Snaefell tram. This resulted in the line being closed and the inspector has imposed a speed limit on the section from the Bungalow to the summit. For those who are interested see this BBC news item. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-isle-of-man-40863365
  21. Yesterday whilst operating the Middleton Railway we were talking and the following question arose. During a normal August Sunday how many steam locomotives are in operation? Many railways have just one locomotive in steam, others are rostered for say four engines. The comment of a Sunday in August is the majority of railways with steam run then. There must be a hundred railways without looking at main line in action each Sunday.
  22. As mentioned above these are now on eBay. Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/253076791670
  23. If you are on DCC I'd not touch the wiring but as the locomotive is symmetrical I think I might put a shunters poll or something else to identify the front.
  24. Going to a good home via eBay if nobody shows any interest before Yorkshire day (1st august 2017).
  25. Anyone heard when the sound fitted ones are coming?
