  1. @alexl102 you could always do my trick, if you want something place some cash into an account for each of your future models each month. Only do that if you don't have expensive loans as these are best paid off due to the costs. Hope that your little person arrives ok. Without digging deeply through the various volumes of Harman I bet that there are many of the specials and locos with different internal cylinders that could also be modelled Something that most might not expect is that the rear springs are above the cab floor. You have to ensure you keep feet away from these whilst the loco is in motion as they move with rail joints. See yellow
  2. I think that you will find that new Fairlie Spooner will be announced before an NGG16.
  3. @009 micro modeller 3 massively converted SR PMV's with a fourth undergoing conversion at present.
  4. Those of us of a certain age will remember the BBC comedy Young Ones where a comment is made about leaning out of the window. Modern kids need to see this in it's extreme as a H&S message. FR only seem to lock heritage stock doors as the modern ones have inward opening doors. At Middleton we have inward opening doors and the number of times this fools folks as they think it's locked when they try opening it outwards. I have seen passengers wondering why the door isn't opening as they are so used to auto doors.
  5. The "No hot ashes" still exists on the majority of plastic wheelie bins. Other than the metal axle they burn well - I have disposed of a couple onto a fire. I think that ash would have been disposed of throughout the site and when cold could have been thinned down. There were many minor lines that had ash ballast rather than rock so that could have used up a fair quantity.
  6. One thing that I have seen done by someone building a turn table from scratch is to use an audio jack as the main pivot point and electrical contact. This ensures that the power always stays on no matter what angle you have the deck at. It will need an auto reverse module feeding it to ensure that upon the loco moving on/off the bridge that there are no shorts. This will also work on a PECO one provided that you are not using the shaft for turning using motor or other mechanical means.
  7. Money for yet more consultants to study each of the new projects. There does seem to miss management by all political parties for engineering projects. Why wasn't each company contracted to deliver a certain product for a set figure? If I was to work for a company for one figure and then charge them more they would rightly ask me to go away. How many civil servants etc that make the decisions on these contracts are also on the payroll of the companies supplying the services and getting a back hander etc?
  8. @JShow looking through the database on my Leeds Engine the loco FASHODA is MW 1432/1899 0-6-0ST L class @JSpencer I think that some of the less elaborate liveries can be used for both preserved and industrial settings.
  9. Until we have the accident report best to not speculate how this incident happened and who is at fault. From the description of what should have happened I have a fair idea.
  10. Sir B's sister loco MW 1191 (also) on the GCR London extension. Having looked through many of the SWA Newton collection there are a few that could inspire a layout, for those wanting an idea, showing the construction of the line along with contractors locos and small waggons. https://www.railwayarchive.org.uk/getobject?rnum=L1060
  11. Scary when I think this is one of my local shows and have been to a fair number of them at Unity Hall, QEGS, Thornes Park and back to QEGS. There will always be those who say that there was too much/not enough of era, scale, gauge, country. We have a broad hobby and there are exhibitions/clubs for each of these fetishes.
  12. There seems to have been quite a lot of small fleets of stock purchased for TOC's that are incompatible/unique compared to others. When the TOC decides they no longer need it there seems to be such a waste of money whereby many of these are scrapped well before they should be due to do so. I heard of instances where the only difference between classes of units were the couplings nearly as bad a us modellers for couplings! Comments from users of CAF products indicate they are Cheap As which is why they break down or are not as comfortable as more expensive products. Perhaps the leasing companies are making money from operators having stock for such short times.
  13. I'd have thought that the traffic to the power station will have been based upon how frequently they envisaged the loads to arrive/depart. Looking at Real Time Trains at Heysham the service from there is on an as required basis.
  14. There are some interesting possible industrial locos to operate internal railway systems. Many of the power stations used fireless locos until quite late in the day as they had adequate supplies of waste steam from the PS that could be used to charge the pressure vessel. I don't have the specific Industrial Railways handbook with me at present so can't say for certain which locos were used where. Here is one for Heysham
  15. Page 77 of the manual lists the technical data for the outputs Note the operational voltage and the current draw
  16. Many of the through services as mentioned by others included multiple departure and destinations as they train was joined or split during the journey with the main trunk having the full consist. Some of these could be just a couple of vehicles.
  17. Lok sound v4 manual attached, from my library. @Johngraham 51972_LokSound_V40_ESUKG_EN_User-Manual_Edition-4_eBook_06.pdf
  18. Best way to run two (or more) locos together is to use the consist option on your DCC command station. On mine when you add the loco into the consist you can select the direction that the loco will travel compared to the lead loco. See your command station handbook upon how to do this. If you are running them permanently together and do not intend to split them they could be given the same address with one loco set to be running in reverse as per CV 29
  19. I think that this will be one of those items that rather than placing a pre order I'll wait until I see one in the flesh at a local shop or show. This is the way I have bought the last few Hornby items
  20. Following on from privatisation many if not all of the longer distance through train services seem to have been cut back to shorter journeys if they still exist. Examples include the St Pancras to Glasgow trains that used the Midland and S&C. By the 80's these change to Nottingham - Glasgow and eventually just Leeds - Carlisle. A few of the trans-Pennine used to go through to the north Wales coast at Llandudno and we used to be able to remember the station order as per the announcement prior to departure from Leeds. There were boat trains that ran down the WCML through Kensington Olympia before heading to the channel ports. Managed to get one of these so that I had loco haulage to Dover in 88. One service that I used to like was the Manchester - Harwich boat train. Often in the 80's it would have a celebrity loco. I saw it with the GWR 47's in Sheffield. Other than the services run by cross country most of these seem to have gone by the wayside as they probably tread upon too many operators toes.
  21. There is not much height change with worn tyres as that would account for about 3" maximum height difference. I'd agree that it is most probably spring settings causing the elevation.
  22. @Edwardian depending upon the wheel size difference you may even be able to just add splashers.
  23. For Viking style sea burials you need a balsa wood boat kit that can then be set alight, plastic just tends to melt before burning.
  24. A few ex main line locos ended their working lives at systems like Lambton which has aided the survival of a few vintage locos. Many had cabs modified for the loading gauge which I presume if designed correctly the cabs can easily be swapped.
