  1. For those interested 1310 with 2 ex SR PMV's One at the north is the veranda and guards brake, the southern one (behind loco) is a saloon. Windows fit within the ironwork of the original body. Often in later years run with the third PMV or Santa with the LNER ballast brake at the north. Fourth PMV is in the workshop converted to saloon.
  2. Filling any small pressure vessel with air from cycle pump is good idea and try the classic cycle innertube test by immersing in a bucket of water. This will show up any leaks by a few bubbles. Suggest thoroughly drying out and then lubricate moving parts. Often the places that model steam locos leak are around the fillers and drain plugs as they have a gasket that can fail over a period of time. When filling with air check that the safety valve lifts and works. Based upon the age I'd be tempted to try it once on low pressure air then conserve it as a museum piece.
  3. Removal of some of the management layers as like NHS there seems to have more layers than an onion which creates a waste of money. At present there seems to be little recruitment of staff needed to be able to run the system which needs to be reversed. Multi mode trains introduced for lines that can't justify the cost of electrification. They could charge from 25kv OHLE or even 750v rd rail. An early pioneer was the battery unit on the Deeside line in Aberdeenshire. eg Harrogate loop stock could charge in Leeds and York platforms. As most buses have computerised ticket machines the ability to purchase a through ticket for your full journey. Use of correct terminology. Ensure that all are called passengers not customers. Railway station etc.
  4. One idea where you only need a couple of wires would be to use kettle lead like many IT devices for mains as they will be rated far higher than we need with low voltage DCC. My new micro I have decided that the bus will be wired so that the connection is made by the two bolts that are holding the two sections together.
  5. I know that the NRM has been looking seriously at what they have which might be duplicated by other groups. If it's unique or historically significant (eg Mallard) then it seems to fit the collection policy. I bet that there will be a 60 designated that could be the last mainline diesel loco built in the UK as plants seem to be just doing units.

Looking at Wiki it appears that Lynx was a later name for the Red Star business and was later taken over by UPS Based upon the schedules for container trains I'd have thought that these days packages could be put inside a container that could do the long haul by train. Transferred onto a road wagon to the sorting office for distribution to the local area.
  8. Seems logical to develop the 68 into the 88 but as there are only 10 that is probably the logic in only produced for one retail outlet. Might be feasible that the forthcoming 93 tri mode loco could be similar to the 88 so that could be a further development.
  9. I am part way through reading it at present and it's a splendid book. There is not just historical info but includes anecdotes from passengers, locals and (well known) enthusiasts who were on the cattle trains.

  12. For those who wish to photograph and ride behind 1310 before the boiler ticket expires (subject to availability) 1310 will haul trains on the 16th and 23rd of July at the Middleton Railway in Leeds. To whet your appetite for the model below is a short video of it in action
  13. Worth buying as I said to someone who said they would just use it for their holidays. They were going to have a day out on NYMR as well and as we have often said just one trip to the moors covers the value.
  14. I even find that many of our preserved railways have moved away from Edmundson style tickets in favour of credit card sized computer printed ones. Fortunately in 2023 you can still travel by train on a railway with an Edmundson. As technology enables greater use of ticketless contact cards and on phone apps (or PDF files) there now seems to quite a proliferation of different formats for tickets.
  15. Often this would keep most regional specific locos within the operational area for many of the long haul trains. I have heard of train departing Cornwall/Devon with a 50 then changed enroute. In the 1980's I had a few rovers and caught a train from Penzance to Plymouth which had 2*50's on. A group of spotters decided to get on there only for the lead loco to be taken off. Looked like double headed over the Cornish hills.
  16. Many such as 13 seem to have not moved from the location where they have been parked on Midland Rd for quite a long time. Other than any Colas ones that appear there I don't bother taking any photos. I wonder if anyone will photoshop one into G&W orange version of the livery
  17. As ever I enjoyed the selection of layouts as there is something for everyone. Trade wise I'd say that you do need some of the pre owned items as well as the new items as per comments I have seen by various YT folks the ability to purchase reasonably priced items can be a cheap way to attract people into the hobby. There were even some new Hornby RR 0-4-0T (Polly type) locos at £20 and I should have got one for an On30 project. There will always be changes in traders.

Looking at the ECML CWD for 1960 there are a few trains that have a * mark against the coaches to indicate that they need to be "modern" MkI's however for the majority it looks to be that the Thompson stock will be used within the pool of available stock especially where these have the same seating capacity.
  19. There will always be more filmed at the time and often gets left on the cutting room floor. Similarly I know of which photos I have supplied and suspect that only a few will appear in the Leeds programme.
  20. I wonder if the delay has been so that they can tweak the board so that a HM7000 based chip can be easily placed inside.
  21. The HM7000 chips are designed so that you can use the DCC track power They can be changed from Blue tooth control to DCC control so any DCC system will be able to run them.
  22. They surely can't stop you if you were a paid up member. Just cover up any of your logos. I can understand the logic in doing an item in multiple scales as the research time can thus be divided equally betwixt them. I could imagine say a waggon done in O, OO and N would be feasible.
  23. The 1880's channel tunnel had a compressed air powered loco made by Fowlers in Leeds to assist with the construction and those used on the UK side for the "final" tunnels were Hunslet built. Another connection with Leeds locomotive building industry is an episode later in the series including a visit to the Middleton Railway - see Brookes No 1 in the title sequence.
  24. Might be an idea to calculate the max speed you would like to run them at and adjust the Vmax. Many decoders use a trio of CV's for min, mid and max speeds. Check online for a manual but might be CV's 2, 6 and 5
