  1. http://www.greatwestern.org.uk/coach_draw.htm regards Mike
  2. If they're the same profile as the E147 B sets then I've already drawn and had those etched. These are still available from PPD. If they were scale it'd be an easy task to scan them into AutoCAD and draw over them. Mike
  3. Are those scaled drawings? I could be talked round to drawing a set of sides and ends. Would the Comet whitemetal ends be suitable to give the rounded end? Just a thought... Mike
  4. Which diagrams are you referring to? Just interested thats all. Having built the 9 coaches that comprised the workers coaches thru Little Mill - all of which were Collets - welcome to plant hinge! Soldering that lot nearly drove me mad. But worth it once they were finished and weathered. Mike
  5. Have you something against the Comet sides and coach chassis? regards Mike
  6. Travelled up from S Wales...so glad. Cracking day, excellent show! Loved Surrey Arms and Midland Sidings. But to be honest there really wasn't a bad one. Excellent trade support as well. If you don't go you'll be sorry! Mike
  7. Went today, huge variety of layouts and gauges. Seeing Tony Wright there was a surprise! Best show for a good few years, well done to all concerned. Mike
  8. Not a fan of this type of stuff, but damn, the finish on those is so convincing! Cracking work! Mike
  9. Mitchell designed kits are a joy to build. Finished one of these 5 years ago and I still have to put the wheels in it...a rather timely reminder! Built the Mitchell tender to go with it...hated putting in the flares. Mike
  10. Having taken more time to digest the photo's, I'd have to say that both of these coaches weren't bow ended...maybe my eyes are playing tricks...but if they aren't, is there a record of various K40's being made with plain coach ends? Or is this another case of find the right photo? The Great Western, where standardisation existed only in words! Kahedron - nice coach! Mike
  11. I've some colour photos in A book of "Great Western Coaches" by Kevin Robertson. The K40 in there is in TPO colours and also has the offset corridor connection. But there are photos of K41 and 42 (no idea of the difference between the diagrams, presumably someone in the drawing office moved a door handle!). The 2 photos from Karhedron answer a lot of my questions. In other words, lining the coach is going to be a pain in the arse. It's interesting that nearly all the windows have safety bars in them, but most of the windows are open! Chris From the photo at Didcot you can see what you mean about the bulging sides on the coach. The Comet sides could be manipulated to such a shape, but you'd either have to etch new ends or be left with a horrible filler job. And...let's not forget, K40 was bow ended. Thank you gentlemen, very helpful. I'll put a picture up of the finished coach, probably June time. Mike
  12. Chris Thanks for that. The notes on the leaflet from Comet that came with the sides said more or less the same. But I like to cross all the bridges I can. Thank you for taking the time to look. regards Mike
  13. I'm now currently building a Comet K40 kit. As I understand the research I've made; 3 or 4 of these had side corridors for TPO workings, the rest were normal corridor connections? Some made it into BR lined livery with maroon. The top band is easy to see where it went, but, given the recessed hand holds and door handles, where did the larger lining run go? Below? One inch from the lowest window sets as in other BR liveried coaches? I've looked in all my books (Harris & Russell - plus some others) and can't see anything to throw light on this. I really don't want to kop out of building the model by leaving it in unlined maroon, although there is that option. Can anyone throw some light on these questions? Thanks in advance. Mike
  14. Thank you gentlemen. Chris - I'll scan the photo and email it over to you. Away playing trains in Tewkesbury tonight, so will probably be tomorrow. Mike
  15. Building another fine kit, and with all models best to research the real thing. So Jenkinson's tomb shows the water lines running over the passenger end. I found Larry's model showing the same. So why the question? Well I bought one of the Tom Ferris books Vale of Neath Line. If you have it, photo on page 24. Clearly, shows a D1905 with the water lines running back over the guards end. Photos don't lie, unless I've got the coach wrongly identified? Any suggestions/explanations? Mike
  16. Sorry if this sounds picky...but the paint looks very thin on the cab sides, towards the bottom near the valance. As to the parts...not a scoobee doo! Mike
  17. Looking good. I'd put a pair of rubber gloves on and move the model to suit the spray. I'm assuming you're using a rattle can? Just make sure you can get the engine off your hand without blemishing the paint finish...don't ask! Mike
  18. Hi Phillip Hope you're keeping well? If you get the book you won't be disappointed. There are photos in I have not seen before including some very nice colour ones . I bought the 4 as a set and I haven't stopped dipping back into them in the last 2 months, despite having bought the latest Hodge tomb! No great earth shattering revelations in the writing, but the photos do all the talking. regards Mike
