  1. We have one chap in our Club, he runs anything Eastern Region, has loads of older stuff, and if he goes into the local Model Shop and see a Mainline, Replica, Hornby loco, irrespective of its age he buys it, even none runners. Now he never goes to Shows and very rarely buys an Railway Mag, he just does his own thing and he's as happy as Larry, (not our Larry on here) muddling along at home, and running trains at the club. Each to their own I guess, and it proves that there's room in this hobby for everyone. Oh and Tony, re the teacher in you, its part of you being you, that will never change.
  2. Hi Tony, I see exactly where your coming from, and at the end of the day were all just Model Rail enthusiast that go about our hobby in the way that suits us. Either way, whether its a massive model of a prototype or like Snug End, a 4ft shunting plank, I can see the merits of the builders end results, i.e. personal enjoyment, and that will do for me.
  3. Aye Gooood Luck on Thursday Jock, and as for Grass, I'm more than happy just to have images of long trains traversing the greenery in an orderly fashion. How about double heading a Jubilee and Black 5 next?

This morning I will start the mammoth task of finding places to put all the boxes of stuff I had in Storage. I have found lots of bits that should have gone to the tip Months ago and so there will be several runs down the road with those bits. I will also be making sure that all the units are in the right places before I start as I don't want to fill them and then have to empty them again to move them, this is going to be a long process so please bear with me. I will be back again soon with more updates and pics.
  5. In my opinion its not always the builder of a layout but the owner that can take the credit for inspiring the creation, in the case of yours Tony, had you not had the initial desire to model LB in its entirety then irrespective of who actually made it, its your creation. The same goes for Retford, Peterborough North and many more, first and foremost you need the room, then you need the funds and have a plan, then you have it built. One man can design the Shard, but it takes hundreds to build it, but the one man who designed it get the accolades. Many modellers prefer to work alone, many as part of a Club and others swap ideas, knowledge or in your case skills. My Bitton project will be mine, but my friend Lee (Vtrtrucker) has fitted out my Potting Shed, and he will make my baseboards, no cash will change hands but he will be suitably rewarded. Jason T is making the Trailing point and Single Slip, and a couple of other people on here have said they are doing bits for the Project and its all greatly appreciated. But at the end of the day, had I not had a Shed and a Plan none of this would be happening. Its a case of you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours,
  6. Ray / George, have either of you checked out Mike (mike61680 / Dent, in the Settle and Carlisle section) he make his buildings from clear plastic, then covers them, its really good.
  7. Evening Adrian, new title, (confused me to begin with) but I like it, so more pics now please, its sounds like a good new solid plan for the future of Westerham as well.
  8. Evening Duncan, I'm really sorry to hear about your delayed plans mate, but yes please put some of the building, and Step by Step guides for us to enjoy.
  9. Evening Al, that's just brilliant mate, BUT not so brilliant once you added the cream, ( get it? brilliant / not so brilliant? hahhahah) O.K. so I wont give up the day Job, Oh I haven't got one. I'm retired, ahhah. Anyway its really good, very clever idea, and some excellent workmanship. I don't know whether you know or not, but people like Fleishmann have had lights on their models for many years, even the N Gauge ones had lights on Steam Locos back in 1977 when I first got into trains. That's why in those days I modeled the German / Swiss / Austrian scene, first in N then later in HO.

We have a local Scrap Metal Man comes around here, anything with Metal in it, put it in the front garden and its gone in 24 hours. A lady down the road put her Husbands Wheel Chair out laying against the Car, ready to put it in, and he had it whilst she went back indoors to get him.

Ahh yes your right its a lot closer, (about a mile and a half from here) but I think that's already gone as there are only about 2 Trains a WEEK on that line now, Marcus37 of this Parish drives the line in his GBRF Class 20's with the Underground Stock from Derby to London and back. There are normally a pair of 20's each end, so 4 Class 20's on just a short Underground set seems a bit OTT.

This morning I decided to make a start and insulate and Double glaze the windows, I had some perspex and some framing so I made a start with one of the front windows. Then Lee arrived Lunch time, well it took him a good 20 minuets to stop laughing at my efforts. Once he stopped he said; now let ME do it properly, and DON'T try doing the rest, leave them to me. So we started with some new timber, and another bit of Perspex, (I had cut the original a bit short). He then mitered the 4 corners and re fitted and sealed the perspex with mastic. Its now a neat job and we'll repeat it on the other windows when I get some more perspex and baton.
  14. Hi Neil, the last post completely lost me, but I will re read it again later, I'm sure it makes a lot of sense to you. I like the track plan from the Hornby components in Anyrail, I have recently deleted Anyrail but I think I will need to retrieve it for a plan like that for Bitton. Some nice work on the point laying too.

I think our nearest small one at Hatton is going soon as well, lets hope some preservation Societies have got their hands on a couple at least.

Anyway, some GOOD NEWS at last, Big John and Lee came around today, BJ with his Truck and so it was off round to Ex Son in Laws to empty his garage of all my junk, I will have some pics in the morning, but it was just getting dark as we finished and I called it a day. Although I found it fairly easy as the guys insisted on doing all the carrying and all I had to do was tell them where to put stuff in The Potting Shed. It looks like a Bombs hit it now, but I have a few days until Lee comes back up on Saturday to make a start on the first main frame. Pics in the morning.
