  1. Alas the Cap'n (Poldark) has forbidden the wider circulation of any further details of the Trevithick Model Railways (1783) Ltd range at the moment, other than on this thread. He doesn't want the Warleggans to get wind of it just yet. But he has authorised a sneak preview video of the "Catch Me Who Can" train set featuring TMR's and the world's first "live steam" model locomotive, as well as a circle of track, fencing and other exciting scenic accessories.
  2. Close. There is a photo on page 128 of "The Day of the Holiday Express" (Richard Woodley - Ian Allan) of 4056 'Princess Margaret' on a returning Swindon Works "Trip" holiday train from Paignton crossing Aller junction dated 14 July 1956. The first coach looks to be LMS as it has a ducket - perhaps a rake borrowed from the Bristol area? The locomotive is sporting largish black on white numerals at the front to indicate it is train number 40 of the "Trip" programme. No photo - but I also have a note from the "Summer Saturdays in the West" (which I have temporarily mislaid!) that 4056 worked the 9.15 a.m Liverpool to Plymouth and Kingswear in July 1957 as far as Newton Abbot, probably from Bristol, as it was based at 82A Bristol Bath Road at the time. That run must have been getting close to a swan song as the loco was withdrawn in October 1957.
  3. On the face of it the race for promotion to the Premiership is the most exciting and closest of recent years, but I think it indicates that there are a number of mediocre teams fighting like cats in a bag and none of them is capable of breaking free of the pack. We (Leicester) had 80 points from 35 games at this stage last season and were 17 points clear of 3rd placed Derby, not that it did us the slightest bit of good, as we've only got 18 points in the Premiership this season and will be returning to "the cats in a bag" Championship very shortly
  4. Brixham - Dover Sole, Monkfish, Turbot and Scallops Plymouth - Haddock, Mackerel etc. Salcombe and Kingsbridge - Crabs, lobsters and shellfish - and I think there was crab traffic on the "real" Kingsbridge branch back in the day
  5. You could try a 1947 equivalent of this shot which would disguise the auto coach quite well: https://www.flickr.com/photos/96859208@N07/9543956779/in/set-72157635132920573 The same gallery features excellent colour photos in BR days of 64xxs on autotrains in the Tavistock area (9) and a number of photos (17) of 6435 impersonating GWR autotrains on the then DVR way back in 1969. 1969 - Blimey that's nearly 50 years ago........
  6. Great to see the noble art of spitting at your opponent return to football at the highest level.......not......disgusting.
  7. According to "The Newton Abbot to Kingswear Railway (Potts) the last vessel to unload coal to rail was MV Fred Everard on 25th/26th March 1963. Apparently the empty wagon requirements were code named "Venlo" - no idea why as I thought that was a Dutch town bordering Germany.
  8. The very rarely photographed 5.45 a.m.(Summer Saturdays Only) Saltash to Kingsbridge all stations through service, with 6417 sandwiched between vintage Airfix and Mainline autocoaches.
  9. Actually only a short time ago - May 3rd 2014 - Hamilton Accies 10 Morton 2. Previous Scottish instance - Dec 16th 1967 - Rangers 10 Raith Rovers 2 Not happened in England since 1987. 10. I've already got the T-shirt from the ANTB Leisurewear range*. I note from their catalogue they name the product as "Rhino on a Treadmill" - probably a more realistic assessment of the Rhino's life chances. * Only £15.99 make cheques payable to R.Sweet 64XX Fund
  11. The lady's car insurers are looking for a brave forensic scientist to take a paint sample for analysis and possible matching before agreeing to pay any claim.
  12. And not to be confused with the undignified "Drunken Delia Effect": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_8JLkwzpd0
  13. Two views of the pontoon version of the last scene of Shakespeare's King Lear. The pontoon is floating on King Lear's Lake in Watermead Country Park, just North of Leicester. One legend has it that King Lear was buried in a cave under the River Soar which flows nearby. The seagull wouldn't fly away......
  14. Could you post some links, as it's still raining heavily here and I need a mac to go shopping. Don't bother with the camera stuff though.
  15. I was amused, in a bad way, by the cloth eared Chelsea apologist, heard on the radio throughout the day, who claimed to be hearing "J*hn Te88y is a racist" on the Metro, as if this somehow made things seem a lot better. Old news I would have thought....
  16. After their feeble appearance on BBC TV's "Tim Sherwood Show" last Sunday lunchtime, Nigel Pearson and his Leicester City squad are to be arrested for "crimes against football", which they have been committing on an almost daily basis since August last year.
  17. The "size" of the harbour doesn't seem too bad looking at the scrag end of the real Kingsbridge Quay as seen in this photo: http://www.daveuptonphotography.co.uk/kingsbridge-the-quay-11#photo
  18. That's a clue for the next build after the Pigeon Van: A Hull and Barnsley Railway MOGO van in that railway's distinctive livery. To be modelled with opening doors. *I know it's Hanna-Barbera really
