  1. Is there any difference in the tooling for the various batches of Hymeks released by Heljan ?
  2. I always look for other useful items that can be combined with cheap orders like this and I'm amazed at the random items that appear on eBay sellers lists. I'm sure there's a few on here that could use the "Dancer Dance Belly Wrap Skirt Costume Sequins Tassel Fringe Hip Scarf Belt Waist" to go with their tweezers.
  3. Based on guesswork or some insider information?? The market for a VERY good 47 is huge but due to the complexity of a 50+ year old class of over 500 locos, I believe we will have to wait for SLW to grasp that one before we get the model we’d like.
  4. Bachmann 37's are a bit of a lottery. The first batch were pretty rubbish, the next batch were better and then they did some pretty good ones. Then they added some fictional body parts and stretched some parts - back to square one. The very recent ones are good, but you never know when they're going to shoot themselves in the foot again. I want a 37049 in Trainload Coal but if they use the same tooling as the previous 37049 in BR Blue, then I'll spend my cash elsewhere. If you've seen some errors on your model than you can't live with, bung it on eBay with a suitable reserve and see what you get.
  5. Aaaaaaaaaaaahh, now I understand. Some people have read “self-propelled” and assumed that I wanted to add a motor. I don’t. I felt like I’d asked for opinions on the weather and someone at the back was shouting “Baked beans on toast”
  6. Can you enlighten me? I was under the impression that these two were manufacturers of motors?
  7. Thanks 87023Velocity, I wasn't aware of "Mark Your Mark" before. They look like really nice models with a price to match !! The piggy bank might get a shake soon...
  8. Does anyone know of a OO gauge kit for the type of self-propelled crane shown on Paul Bartlett’s site... http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/cowanshydrauliccrane I know GJH Plant do a lighter duty one for O Gauge, but I haven’t been able to find anything in OO. Thanks
  9. Partly arisen because of Chinese New Year ?? Must have been a real shock to find an annually occurring holiday occurring annually; again. And at the same time it did last year.
  10. I heard there was a calendar too.
  11. It looks like Concrete panels to me Take a sheet of Plasticard, glue a wide strip section to it then glue three narrow pieces of microstrip (use a spacer to get the spacing correct), then glue a wide strip....repeat until end. You can do narrow horizontal pieces to replicate the joint seen on your photo. When it’s all dry, run a file along the edges of the strips to replicate the (not-perfect) cast concrete edges and spray it with your chosen colour. Many recommend Plasticote Suede Tan for concrete, but your photo looks like it’s a got a good coating of limestone or similar. Are you any good with weathering powders? Good luck and please share your results.
  12. Shawplan. Bear in mind that the printed one may be too big rather than the other way around. Printed one are easy enough to remove; do a search on RMWeb.
  13. In the hands of an expert, a scroll saw will produce some lovely work. But for me, if you’re a hobbyist and if you want accurate cut-outs, you are better spending your money on getting it laser cut. Like 3D printing, laser cutting equipment to produce a near-professional result is out of the budget of most of us. But it is now cheap enough for cottage industries to invest in and make it affordable to the likes of us.
  14. I'm looking for a OO Scale model (off the shelf would be ideal) for a timber loading scene. I'm thinking late 1980's, West Highland Line, OTA's, 37/4 etc... Truck would have to have a grab arm. Similar to the one shown in this video (from about 2:00 mins in) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5qTZUPd7NM Any suggestions?
  15. Step outside RMWEb and I think you'll find the percentage of people looking for finished models with numbers v un-numbered is rather higher than the hallowed halls of these forums. If it was in any way profitable for Hornby/Bachmann etc., they'd be doing it. It isn't, they don't.
  16. Zeller gets my vote. You can buy additional rollers for any gauge and that makes their product very versatile. www.http://marion-zeller.de/ They usually have a stand at Warley.
  17. I`ve found the best bargains recently on the various Facebook Model Railway trading pages. The sites are pretty much self-policing; if there`s a bad trader they soon get booted off. Obviously you have to be cautious, but the user reviews also help. (waits for the inevitable flurry of "I`m not on Facebook" complainers......)
  18. I find that the glass jars that come wrapped around hot dog style sausages are ideal for soaking long thin things. The contents are pretty acceptable too. Railmatch Warning Panel Yellow is a very close match to French`s mustard; don`t get them mixed up.
  19. Bachmann have only ever released four Stones-Vapour versions : 47522, 47190, 829 & 745. They have also announced the following which have yet to be released : 47727, 47209 & 47714. The models of 47522 & 47190 have flush fronts at both ends with the cowling still present. These are the only two 47’s with this combination, so Bachmann have chosen pretty much the worst configuration possible. If you’re brave, you can remove the cowls and do 47299 (from a 190 Bodyshell) Stones-Vapour fitted 47790 also got flush fronts around the time it gained it’s Northern Belle livery but also gained the modified class 57 style cantrail grills. It had previously lost it’s cowls too. Your combination request.... ( flat front number 1 end, plated headcode box number 2 end boiler tanks and ideally the Stone Vapor boiler grill ) 47053, 47197, 47204, 47210 & 47270 had flush No.1 end and cowl removed. 47521, 47526, 47044, 47045, 47506, 47509, 47554 & 47512 had flush No.1 end and cowl present. Of course these changed over time and you also have to look out for re-numberings etc. It’s often far better to start with a loco in mind and find a model to match rather than the other way around; there’s just too many differences in a 512 strong class.
  20. "They use Railmatch paints as their reference, but the paint names should remain the same." Open the webpage https://www.phoenix-paints.co.uk/ Type in your paint name e.g. Flint grey. Result - P183.
  21. Taken from the Fox Transfers Paint Guide (I suggest everyone Bookmarks this, it's really very useful). They use Railmatch paints as their reference, but the paint names should remain the same. https://fox-transfers.co.uk/paint-guide RAILFREIGHT SECTOR 'TRIPLE GREY' LIVERY: Roofs : RM 201 : Executive Dark Gey Upper bodysides : RM 245 : Flint Grey Lower bodysides : RM 206 : Rail Grey Underframes : RM 205 : Rail Black Front : RM 202 : Warning Panel Yellow or, for weathered versions : RM 452 : 'Faded' Warning Panel Yellow
  22. Someone hasn't been keeping tabs on Heljan's class 26 releases and paid a whopping £161 for pre-owned 26004 on eBay last weekend. Ouch.
