  1. A string of Mark 1's or Mark 2's in Blue/Grey, Inter-City Executive, Regional Railways or NSE; or a combination of all four!! Summer Saturday trains to Skegness, Yarmouth, Blackpool, Weymouth etc. would often use spare freight sector engines. The weekdays Cardiff-Weymouth was booked a Cardiff Trainload Petroleum FPEK loco 1991. Some fine examples here... http://http://thesulzerpictorial.weebly.com/class-473.html
  2. Sorry to be boring but I thought the point of this new thread was to tell people about bargains, not discuss people NOT posting about bargains.
  3. Heljan have just put the following on their Facebook page.... "Following customer demand, we are producing the following BRCW/BR class 26/0 and 26/1 models. Scheduled for January 2018 release, we are inviting initial orders as production numbers are limited and we anticipate a keen demand for these models. SRP is £129,95 each Class 26/1 - 2614 26026 BR blue with full yellow ends Class 26/1 - 2615 26044 BR blue with full yellow ends Class 26/1 - 2638 26028 BR blue with full yellow ends Class 26/1 - 2639 26036 Engineers Dutch Class 26/1 - 2640 26040 Railfreight grey Class 26/0 - 2655 26008 Railfreight COAL sector Class 26/0 - 2656 26010 Railfreight red-stripe Class 26/0 - 2657 26011 Civil Engineers Class 26/0 - 2658 26014 BR blue with full yellow ends" The pictures they have posted show 26044 as weathered.
  4. I recently saw a lovely Mk2 Ford Transit model in 1:24 scale by Italeri in a British Gas livery. That made me think I'd like a nice Mk2 van (possibly white) for my OO layout. I'm no expert in road vehicle modelling but I'm astonished to see nothing coming up on a google search of the usual sites. No one seems to make them?? Am I missing something? Is there a rights problem? [Edit to include scale]
  5. When you start modelling the stains on the upholstery, you know you've reached a tipping point...
  6. I would imagine that Realtrack are keeping a very close eye on what’s happening with the Class 158. I’m no fan of “Sprinters” but they are pretty much essential on any post 1980’s layout. With a myriad of liveries to be modelled, a manufacturer could release a few each year for many, many years which would give excellent long term returns on the initial tooling costs. Always an interesting prospect... Realtrack are becoming THE go-to manufacturer for 2nd Generation DMUs. If their Class 156 is as successful as it looks like it’s going to be, cash flow should be healthy which allows further investment. Would they go up against Bachmann? Who knows. Personally if they announced a 158 and it was 6-12 months behind Bachmann’s offering, I’d wait.
  7. So let me get this straight...... Because they have some poor quality 2nd hand items (that you think are expensive), you now think that they will try and deceptively sell you new items that are damaged ? I hope you don't sneeze. That would obviously be a sign that the moon is going to crash into your back garden on Tuesday.
  8. Dear Hattons, Please can you put a tick box on your pre-owned search pages marked "I bloody hate Buthes and I don't want to see page after page of Buthes when I search for model rail items. No Buthes should be displayed, ever". Thank you.
  9. I have it on the utmost authority, (industry insider) that they will only be available when they are available.
  10. Fox transfers website has an excellent reference section.
  11. Yes, it was before they started using the Loksound Select chips; not sure if it was V3.5 or V4 though.
  12. 37418 was the one from the Highlander set.(32-382-HWR) 37417 was a catalogue item available sound fitted in 2013 or 2014? (32-377DS)
  13. You should have saved your money (and a lot more) and had a ride on the real thing in Switzerland.... https://www.sbbhistoric.ch/veranstaltungen-fahrten/kalender/sbb-historic-events/2017-06-17-exklusive-fuehrerstandsfahrt-im-krokodil-ce-6-8-ll.html Or the translated version... https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?sl=de&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sbbhistoric.ch%2Fveranstaltungen-fahrten%2Fkalender%2Fsbb-historic-events%2F2017-06-17-exklusive-fuehrerstandsfahrt-im-krokodil-ce-6-8-ll.html&edit-text=&act=url This trip is booked up but they do them quite regularly.
  14. No, they were never booked on the Pompey-Cardiffs. However they did stray off region on additionals, excursions and perhaps most famously to Birmingham New Street on troop trains.
  15. They were called DCE stripes (Department of Civil Engineers) Classes that carried them - 20/26/31/33/37/50/73 There was also a grey version for MEE (Mechanical & Electrical Engineers) Classes that carried them - 20/26/31 [info taken from the excellent "British Rail Main Line Locomotives - Specification Guide by Pip Dunn]
  16. Reading this thread from the beginning might help?
  17. All this post-privatisation stuff is a bit out of my era, so headlight clusters, LED lights etc. are beyond my knowledge but...... All the Colas locos have a different boiler port arrangement, so none of them can be simply renumbered to another loco. (Interestingly all three have "standard" noses with no flush fronted examples.) 47727 - Stones-Vapour 47739 - Spanner 47749 - Clayton As far as bodyshells go, if you want to do 47739 then 47035 (Bachmann 32-802) is a good starting point as it became 739 (via 594). If you want to do 47749 then 47834 (Bachmann 31-815) seems to be fairly readily available or perhaps 47256 (Bachmann 31-656). Other Clayton boilered examples are harder to find (47612/710/715/972). Of course you will need to do a full respray. And of course that only deals with the basic bodyshells; underframes will need little more investigation.
  18. 47444 has a Spanner Boiler port and 47595 has the Stone-Vapour, so not OK to re-number. The Stone-Vapour boiler version is very rare on Bachmann models, just 5 out of 50 releases. The following have been issued previously... 31-650K 47522 in Doncaster Green 31-658/DS 47190 in Trainload Petroleum 31-650Q 47829 in POLICE livery (Kernow Exclusive) 32-817 47745 RES and the newly announced 31-663 47209 in Distribution Of course the usual minefield of Class 47 detail differences will mean that whatever Bachmann produce it will never be suitable for a straight renumber to your chosen loco. Flush ends, cowls, boiler ports, ETH, series-parallel/All parallel, livery variations etc. mean you will almost certainly have to do some "modelling" to get an accurate representation of your chosen subject.
  19. How do the various manufacturers of German rolling stock compare to each other? Is Brawa better than Piko? How does Fleischmann fare against Roco? I see some good prices for a few bits that I'm tempted by, but I don't want to be buying the equivalent of Hornby Railroad when I could spend a few more pennies and get something much better. I'm mostly interested in 1990-to present day. Opinions welcome...

    Dapol 08

This was posted on the Tower website today – (I’ve removed the parts relating to their own orders and just left the interesting stuff.) Dapol Class 08 Latest News We hope to have the BR Black, Pre TOPS & Post TOPS Class 08 with sound in the next few weeks. Good news today from Dapol is that they expect one version of the green 08's either Friday or Monday subject to how quick they clear customs etc. This will be the BR green early crest without sound. Both the BR late crest and BR late crest with chevrons are expected the week after this but exact dates are yet to be confirmed.

It's downhill from York to the WR; lots of rolling...

Was there any official reason given for the price increase from £169 to £199? I notice that some places are still advertising the green versions at £169 for pre-orders. Will they instantly go up to £199 on release?
  23. I'd be interested in seeing the results of the livery poll. And as they haven't announced Scotrail versions of these can we hope/assume/beg that someone might commission this livery? Harburn hobbies would be the obvious choice (having done Scottish items before) but their commissions have tended to be small batches (e.g LNER Green Mk2 stock).
  24. So all these sectorisation era liveries are being applied to locos with skirts? Oops.
