  2. Fell diesel. Yes, I know they couldn’t take photos of it because it longer exists, but still. The Fell diesel is clearly the loco that no one needs but everybody wants, the loco that no one remembers but everybody can find a place for on their layout. Just imagine one in Network SouthEast or COLAS liveries or even GNER. Sales would be unprecedented. So there we have it, the frothing can cease. Fell diesel.
  3. <my opinion on> Posting items from your own company in here goes against the spirit of this thread. Many companies, large and small, pay for their advertising on RMWeb; it pays for the on-going presence of the site. If they all stopped, the site would swiftly disappear. I don’t think any of us would want that. <my opinion off>
  4. I would like to model one of these locos with the following scenario..... Late 80’s / Early 90’s (NSE Era) Preserved Loco hired out to shunt a small yard Retaining/repainted in original green livery As Heljan don't do a green liveried one with the additional cabinet, I'm making the following assumptions... No loco was fitted with train air brakes whilst in BR Green livery. No loco was fitted with high level pipes whilst in Green Livery, only after being painted BR blue. Am I also correct in assuming all the locos that moved from BR into Industrial use and then preservation all ended up with train air brakes? Which survivors retained high level pipes? Apart from the additional cabinet and additional pipes, what other external changes were carried out? My plan is to buy one of the next batch of green liveried ones, buy the spares sprue that contains the cabinet and paint it to match the lovely green livery, thus giving me a loco that made it into BR Blue but has now been painted back to green. I don't want to repaint a blue one into green; too much faffing. Thanks in Advance
  5. Get hold of the "Rail Express - Train Formations Handbook"; available in WH Smiths etc. They have a section in there specifically dealing with West Highland Freight. https://www.classicmagazines.co.uk/product/5542/bookazine-rail-express-train-formations-handbook

    Heljan class 86

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else; from the BRM interview with Ben Jones... "One model we are looking at again is the Class 86. The original version wasn't perfect, so we're addressing areas such as the pantograph and some of the body details and backdating it to produce an original 'AL6' or Class 86/0 for the 1960's to early-1980s period". No indication of timescale, but encouraging news.
  7. Paint both sides or you’ll be looking at some unwelcome contours.
  8. I posted this on another forum and someone has suggested Hackney Wick. This works for me with the overbridge being the canal, the odd looking footbridge and the curvature of the track in both directions. Anyone care to confirm?
  9. I think BRM did an article about this system about two years ago? I seem to remember they liked it a lot. There is also this annoying video from DCC Concepts; non-voice, all text and loud steam train noises... There are lots of other videos on YouTube.
  10. Banana boxes from the supermarket? They'll need some work to make them fit, but if you use a template, that will speed things up. And they're free.
  11. I was going to suggest the same thing. Freeze it and then hit it with the biggest hammer / mallet you can find. However, if it's bonded with the fibres in the material, you're never going to get all of it out.
  12. Is anyone else having problems downloading to the Zenio app this month ?
  13. Go old school. A pencil and some old wallpaper; and a rubber. [And not to pry into your finances, but if you can't afford software, how can you afford track?]
  14. Nope. Different boiler ports - 47802 has Stone-Vapour and 47245 has Clayton MKII.
  15. If you’re as keen on conspiracy theories as your post would indicate, I’m assured that Hornby were responsible for faking the moon landings too.
  16. What a lucky boy I am. My new railway room is approx. 5m x 3m and I’m considering whether or not to go for an O gauge layout. It would have to be an end to end set-up against one wall, possibly with the fiddle yard set at 90 deg. to give me (almost) full use of the 5m. So I’m looking for existing layouts of a similar size, so I can see what I’ll be able to model in the space I have available. Any suggestions are welcome... TIA
  17. If they are having issues with one single component, it's quite possible that they shipped the whole lot, ready to add the offending component in the UK? Let's speculate that the problem component is the spring in the pantograph. A solution is found, the parts manufactured, the pantographs assembled then shipped by air to the UK to be united with the loco's. The critical path will be the 2 month shipping of the locos by sea. Why add delay if a single part can be easily added later? Which raises another question; What facilities for assembly do Hornby have in the UK?
  18. I don't wish to sound over -critical.... They're Mk3s. They are Hornby's rather ancient "Mk3 shaped" tooling. You'd be better off with Oxford Rail's recently released Mk3s for £5.25 more per coach. (yes, I know they currently only do the loco hauled versions at the moment) Just because someone labels a thing "Bargain" does not mean it's a bargain. Apart from that; well done.
  19. This is clearly fake news. As we all know, Brian sits atop his ‘Game of Thrones’ style chair (made entirely of flush glazing, etched OO gauge radiator grills and Deltic nameplates), manically laughing at the ringing phone and sneering at the size of his un-opened mail folder.
  20. In this age of digital control could we have a whole set of passengers protruding from various windows, only to withdraw and close the windows behind them when the train leaves the station? 21. Look online for a clear picture of a class 47 bogie. Or wait here for 27 different opinions on what is right or wrong.
  22. Livery samples for the latest batch of liveries have appeared on Hattons website.......let the frothing begin. http://www.hattons.co.uk/NewsDetail.aspx?id=322
  23. This seems an extraordinary distance ? 15 km is over 9 miles. As a comparison, an aircraft landing at 200 mph certainly doesn't need miles and miles of runway to come to a halt. Now obviously momentum has something to do with it, but 15km seems excessive ??
