  1. Which of the variations, if any, are closest to 1925 condition. I'm minded to splash the cash on a couple, if there's not too much butchery involved in getting a pair into that era.
  2. No excuses now, not to have a self propelled chassis up and running in short order. I wish you all the best in your enedeavour's SS
  3. Having been to Exeter today is the reddish hue to the Ogin in the Smugglers Cove area due to the recent wet weather or is it more hosing down of the cliff face. SS
  4. I tend to bend after annealing and then clean as the metal may be just a tad harder, a tad may be more or less than a smidgin depending on the denomination of the tad. ss
  5. I think that's cheating, and anyway it's not really valve gear it's the piston, crosshead and con rod, if Spams really wants a challenge it would be to fit inside working valve gear. However I think that would be a step to far for a novice loco builder.
  6. After a long gestation period it is good to finally see a good start has been made on a very interesting project. I look forward to the continuing updates to this thread. Cheers SS
  7. Cottage Brewery are well renowned in this neck of the woods for railway inspired ales, Deltic Gold sounds like one of their light beers, so I probably won't be partaking as I prefer the darker end of the spectrum. I think there is one of their ales which has one of them american tinned meat products on the pump clip.
  8. Wot is it? It has a mishapen smokebox door and some funny wheels as if someone has done a bodge job filling in the spaces between the spokes, no nice copper capped chimney and some white spotty things on the front where there should be a lamp or two.
  9. I can recommend the Market Porter by the side of Borough Market, London Bridge. If you walk from London Bridge in the direction of Charing X/ Holborn viaduct etc. under the arches through the market it is off to the left. They have around half a dozen sticks as Does the Hole in the Wall outside the front of Waterloo Station in the arches under the Charing X line.
  10. Is there a casting which forms the gland around the piston rod?
  11. Does she roll as sweetly now as she did without the con rods and cross heads?
  12. That could be the name of it, I have been to one or two of those pubs that you have listed and the others will get a severe looking at as the oportunities arise. SS
  13. I'm glad to see that you now have a sweetly rolling chassis, now to get it self propelled and you've done the hard part. SS
  14. Looking good, slow and steady now will pay big dividends when it comes to getting a good rolling chassis.
  15. Anyone know of any good ale houses in Wells, I am being press ganged into driving the van up to Railwells next Friday. Cheers (I hope). SS
  16. A good solid start to the precedings. I'm glad you have finally bitten the bullet and got off to a good start. I look forward to further progress in the coming days. SS
  17. Just seen a local news report which has reminded of the Beer Engine in Newton St Cyres just off the Exeter to Crediton road. They brew there own beer there, well worth a visit. Edit for spelling
  18. Try one or two from the Otter brewery, already mentioned is the Branoc, there is also Bays brewery in the Torbay neck of the woods. There used to be a pub in Hurst Street in Brum which had lager on a hand pump. I never tried it as they usualy had a dark mild on. I don't know if said establishment still exsists and purveys drinkable liquid refreshment. I now use the Old Contemtibles up by Snow Hill station since Kidder trains started running there instead of New Street.
