Popular Post Revolution Ben
Hi all, Been away for a couple of days so only just had a chance to catch up with this thread. We were delighted to be able to support Simon in his first 'on tour' show after its debut at Wakefield. The scale of the ambition is awe-inspiring, and Heaton Lodge Junction was very ably supported by a cast of excellent layouts; many would normally have been showstoppers in their own right. There were lots of 'obvious' railway modeller types, not surprisingly, but I have noticed at this show, and at the London Festival of Railway Modelling at Alexandra Palace last month, increasing numbers of young people and women on their own, or with friends, who hadn't just been dragged along by their partners. I do feel the events of the last two years have made many people reassess their pastimes and it seems clear railway modelling has benefitted from this. The challenge now is to maintain that interest. To my mind that means high-calibre modelling, friendly and approachable operators and (arguably more than anything) trains moving! I can understand how Simon will feel right now about exhibiting again, however I suspect a spectacle like HLJ will build a following and I hope a way can be found (perhaps through partnering other organisations, perhaps through imaginative use of derelict town-centre locations) to exhibit the layout again. It is a fantastic experience and a wonderful advocate for the hobby. cheers Ben A. Edited April 14 by Revolution Ben 37 4 1

I spent a lot of time in real life on the bridge at the "left hand end" of HLJ, and that view on the model, with a yellow end just visible in the distance, is so "right"!
T0ny
Even if the layout is not going to exhibited, I hope we continue to hear and see it on here in the future. It really is an awsome achievement. Tony Edited April 21 by T0ny Typo 1

I will update when modelling recommences probably with converting the fiddle yard into a marshalling yard & the cooling towers/power station mini project. 34

Popular Post HeatonLodge40 Posted Thursday at 15:12 Popular Post Share Posted Thursday at 15:12 (edited) As some will know, I’m a big fan of grids. Today no less than 41 I’d ordered ages ago landed from Denmark. Don’t ask. I can’t really fit 41 on the layout so I’ll be letting a few go. In fact I’ll be naming & numbering a batch before giving them a subtle weathering before offering them for sale. Spent an enjoyable few hours making a track based plinth for this Tinsley example 56099 which is going to a mate for his 50th. d winpenny Posted Friday at 21:10 Share Posted Friday at 21:10 Wow 41 grids even with you not keeping them all that will still be a very impressive fleet makes my 2 probably going to be getting another so 3 triple grey examples seem meagre in comparison. Really nice use of the plinth might have to pinch that idea for myself david
Popular Post HeatonLodge40 Posted Saturday at 10:59 Popular Post Share Posted Saturday at 10:59 Thanks, I used thin superglue for the ballast this time instead of the usual PVA. I’ll be numbering & lightly weathering the first batch of 10 Grids next week. These I’ll be moving on. The table is bending under the weight! In the meantime the basement is finally back to normal after the Bath exhibition. Going to start reassembling it in a few days
rob D2 Posted Saturday at 13:30 Share Posted Saturday at 13:30 (edited) 56s seem to have cult status - it's funny how some classes do and some don't . I wonder if it's down to numbers - ie the more numerous the class in a particular area with rail fans to elevate them to this status . 20/25/ 45 never really seemed to do it - 56, 50, deltic managed it Edited Saturday at 13:31 by rob D2

I think the sound these classes make helps.

RMweb Gold Tony Teague Posted Saturday at 18:01 RMweb Gold Share Posted Saturday at 18:01 I don't know whether these will be any use to you, but they were taken at a depot open day - I think at Frodingham, but the memory fades and it could have been Tinsley or Toton. They are scans of slides that were not kept very well and so are a bit grubby! Tony 13
