lyneux
After a two year covid-enduced hiatus, we are very pleased to announce that DEMU Showcase will take place this year on 23/24th July 2022 at Sutton Coldfield Townhall in Sutton, just north of Birmingham city centre. As you are probably aware, we have been looking for a new ‘home’ for Showcase after leaving Burton-on-Trent Town Hall in 2018 due to the space available to hire reducing considerably that year. Unfortunately, in 2019 we were forced to re-arrange the show at very short notice after cancellation by our anticipated new Burton venue and ended up at Greenbank Leisure Centre in nearby Swadlincote. The Showcase organising team are mindful of the need for stability and to try and find a location that we can call home for a number of years to come. We believe that we have found this with Sutton Coldfield Town Hall. On this basis, we have decided to ‘bite the bullet’ and move the show this year. Unfortunately, the price we pay for this means moving from our usual early June date to mid July. Rest assured, this is a temporary arrangement for this year only and we plan to return to our early June slot from 2023 onwards. Not only is the Town Hall an extremely characterful building, but it is a mere 2 minutes walk from Sutton train station and only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Sutton Coldfield itself. Sutton Coldfield is well connected to the national motorway network in the centre of the country and only a few minutes off both the M6 and the M6 toll. There is also plentiful parking nearby. Regarding the covid situation, If the last two years are anything to go by, we anticipate that mid summer gives us the best possible opportunity of running a show with little or no restrictions. Clearly however, if the situation changes we may be forced to restrict numbers and comply with any other regulations that might come into force. We look forward to seeing you this summer in Sutton!
woodenhead
That place looks awfully familiar to me, think I have been there before for something completely non railway or council related. Can also get there avoiding the use of Cross Country trains, bonus. Looking forward to seeing the list of exhbitors.

LNERandBR
What is the car parking like near the Town Hall? Have to admit, I stopped going to the show at Burton after the Town Hall car park there was pretty much lost. Couldn't make it to Swadlincote for another reason so I'm really hoping to make it to this years show as I've missed going.
lyneux
There are a number of car parks within a minute or twos walk. The railway road being the closest from what I can tell. Hopefully you can make it! Guy

I've found some reasonable fares from Manchester with AWC (especially with an old gits railcard!). David

RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted February 12, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 12, 2022 Added to diary but good to know that Cross country network serves Birmingham New st well and it is a short hop on the WMT Cross city service so rail access to the show is a no brainer. lyneux
We are gearing up for this years show in July! Come along to Sutton Coldfield and see the final outing of John Norton and George Woodcock's masterpiece "Towcester" before it retires from the circuit. Set in the halcyon days of 1977 in BR 'banger blue'.
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted May 19, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 19, 2022 I'll be there with a demo stand of some sort. After a pile of cutdown HTA to HRAs last time out, I may try chopping an Accurascale HYA into a shorty type..... 😄 Or, maybe just more yellow stuff. Or, something else completely different................. Come along and see.

lyneux
Please put the July 23/24th in your diary to come along and see Splott at DEMU Showcase. From Paul Spencer, one of the builders of legendary layout Farkham, the layout is a little slice of South Wales 1980s steel operations.
