As none ended up passing through Dolgellau not really for me, but I have to say they do look to be a very good specification.  The interior detailing is outstanding and at sixty sheets with lighting, a good price.  Let's hope they sell like hot comestibles and Dapol move onto other coaching stock, hopefully of something more useful for me.  These deserve to do well with that specification and level of detail.

I wonder how long it will take Hornby to rush something out to compete?

I'm not so sure they will feel need to - the Collett 57ft suburban coaches they released a couple of years ago being able to satisfy the 'GWR non corridor coaches' and 'something to run with the large Prarie' tick boxes.

Not to mention corridor coaches in development.

Brian

Where does it say that?

Although willing to be corrected by GWR experts, my impression is that these non corridor coaches are all that is being offered.

Possibly the use of the word 'mainline' is confusing folk - it has nothing to do with mainline / corridor coaching stock - the word 'mainline' in the description of these vehicles is akin to 'Hammersmith' in London Undergrounds 'Hammersmith and City' line and reflects the fact that these coaches were designed to provide through services from the GWR (mainline) to Moorgate (City) via what is now the north side of LUs circle line.

Right at the bottom of the announcement linked above:

Toplight Corridor coaches are currently in design, we look forward to being able to tell you more on this project later on in the year.

Pretty good pricing as well I would say, while this is not the most useful to me (what with it being London centric and non corridor) I do need a non corridor all third for the Newton Abbot - Plymouth workmans train (to run with the slaters clerestory brake third I have already built), and while this would be pretty unlikely to be that far west it is possible....

These appear to be rather specialised vehicles, possibly not the sort of toplights a lot of us were hoping for…

Yes, possibly a bit London-centric, my interest is in GWR around the West Midlands and I suspect they are unlikely to have reached up here - I need to consult a book and then think up some barely credible pretext...

For reasons totally unconnected with trains, it already has been a good day. This is the icing on the cake and I'm sure at least one of these will find it's way to Cornwall for a staff coach attached to a parcels train...

Hopefully these will fly off the shelves and give encouragement for the corridor stock, although best of luck sorting that one out to everyone's satisfaction!

I was of course being a bit sarcastic, referring to Hornby's apparent desire to crush Dapol after "Terriergate" and "big green tanky thingy-gate"...

Corridor Toplights in design sounds very interesting for Dolgellau as I know they did make it to the town and I do have an inclination to try and get some GWR era stock, assuming we ever reopen...

I know you were - but in truth had Hornby not already got suitable stock to put behind their Prairie then it would have been a serious possibility given their behaviour over the past few years.
