Comings and Goings at Tyne Yard

Recommended Posts

These are brilliant shots - thanks for posting! As they're taken from an elevated position they show some great prototype details that are not usually seen in 'ground level' pictures.

Keep up the good work.

6th July and 5 Freightliner 66s, 66527, 66953, 66553, 66510 & 66559 (the 30x optical zoom on the new camera is proving very useful...)

Those ex ferry vans look a bit too rough to be let out on the Network. When new they were probably regulars into Tyne Yard before being tripped the last few hundred yards into the Team Valley Fruit and Vegetable market.

Didn't get down there today but I am reliably informed that there is a Class 70 parked there overnight so I'll be popping down in the morning as I've not seen one before...

Probably 70804

Worked 6Z27 from Cardiff.

And probably working back south Tuesday at 1110 on this: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/R18130/2014/07/15/advanced

Managed to get down to the yard at 7 this morning.  Unfortunately, the 70 was parked at the south end of the yard which you can't get anywhere near so this was the best I could do with the camera on full zoom (picture is not too bad seeing as this must be over half a mile away).  I'm going to try to get down to see it leaving later this morning.

Spotted another unusual visitor in the shed, a 67:

And 66562:

Despite showing as cancelled, I took a chance and got there just in time as it left at 11:05

Starting up:

and then a quick chase down to the southern end of the yard to see it heading towards the ECML:

Liking the vans - any chance of numbers?

With a bit of digging and cross-referencing - the one with the doors and windows MAY be DB786933

The one in more conventional ferryvan guise MAY be DB787148

OR DB797106

All of those appear to have been resident at Tyne in 2008...

I would go with the one with doors and windows to be 787148 - the red panel, yellow doors and bars over the window match. 786933 hasn't got bars.

I couldn't open the third link.

Mick

That's a nice pile of old style concrete sleepers with bullhead chairs. Are the Tanfield Railway aware of it?

After the excitement of the Colas 70 it's gone pretty quite over the last couple of days.  Here's a few from 18 July 2014...

66747 arrives with a train of wagons that certainly look like they've seen better days:

It then ran round it's train:

And then coupled to 66562 which, I assume had failed and left with it in tow:

Hello johndon

I've enjoyed catching up with the lastest developments at Tyne Yard. Many thanks for posting your photos.

Also thanks for the link to the interior shots of the control tower - fascinating!

I spent hours on that bridge back in the 1990s, however, more recently my only sight of the yard has been while passing on the main line. Although only a brief look the place seemed rather dead - it's good to see from your photos that this is far from the case.

Sadly however, I doubt if the yard will ever see this variety of locos again....
